Beautiful location and inside is pleasant. If you're surefooted it's ideal. The paths to the home are threaturous not very well lit. If you don't have 4wd park below at the little building. Back in off to the side. If you can't climb well don't expect much in that area, the hammock is in the revein or out of reach of normal humans. The outside lounge area is only good in dry season. The tree part of the tree location isn't accessible to those overweight ... my 13 year old had a hard time accessing so it's not truly a tree house. The fire pit is dangerous and sliding off the hill the wood they supply is wet..... it took all the starters they had to lite it inside in the awesome wood burning stove all doors open and ac down too....i enjoy fire since outdoors area was soggy....I paid big money i'mma enjoy a beautiful fire. The pillows are nice the sheets and blankets are in need of retirement or used as decoration only. I think the only major issues where the nasty wet restroom floor, washing machine not working, fire pit wet soggy and sliding off the mountain. Also the composting toilet wasn't truly thus.... is was a empty plastic thing not pleasant for anyone overweight or not up with a portable toilet with no pleasant water made for stench... hot tube was nice but I wiped a huge amount of scum off the side yucca!!! Also when I complained about wet bathroom the person that came wasn't concerned about hospitality she was concerned about the property only.... drug a trench behind us... said the hole time.... oh I've never seen this before.. blah blah I never seen that.. .she did nothing for our wet nasty floor or the towels I had to use too....i try to make comfortable....

Understanding both sides of the guest experience is key to setting accurate expectations for this unique rental. We will delve into its secluded yet accessible location, the amenities it provides for a comfortable stay, and the special features that make it stand out, drawing from both positive and critical public feedback.

Let's explore the details of this distinctive mountain property and help you determine if it's the perfect fit for your next North Carolina adventure.

Sugar Creek Treehouse is nestled at 27, Sugar Creek Ln, Green Mountain, NC 28740, USA. This address places it within a serene and somewhat secluded part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering the kind of peaceful country road setting that many North Carolinians seek for a mountain escape. The presence of a "beautiful creek running through it" further enhances the tranquil and natural ambiance of the location, living up to its name.

Accessibility to such unique mountain properties often comes with specific considerations. While the location provides a "super peaceful" environment, one review highlights that the paths to the home can be "treacherous not very well lit," and recommends that if you "don't have 4wd park below at the little building." This suggests that a vehicle with four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) might be highly advisable, especially during certain weather conditions or seasons, to easily navigate the driveway and immediate surroundings. For North Carolina locals accustomed to mountain driving, these details are important for planning.

Despite its secluded feel, Sugar Creek Treehouse is strategically located to serve as an excellent "base to explore Mt Mitchell and the Blue Ridge Parkway." Mount Mitchell, the highest peak in the Eastern United States, offers incredible hiking and stunning panoramic views, making it a major draw for outdoor enthusiasts. The Blue Ridge Parkway, celebrated for its scenic drives and numerous overlooks, is also easily accessible. Additionally, a "nearby... river you can swim in" adds another recreational opportunity. While the immediate area provides peace and quiet, the proximity to these iconic Western North Carolina landmarks means guests can enjoy both seclusion and adventure during their stay. For locals, this balance of a peaceful retreat and access to beloved mountain attractions is a significant advantage.

Sugar Creek Treehouse offers a range of services and amenities designed to create a cozy and self-sufficient mountain retreat. While some guest experiences have highlighted areas for improvement, the core offerings are aimed at providing a comfortable stay:

  • Hot Tub: A key feature highlighted by guests, providing a relaxing outdoor experience. One reviewer noted it was "fab," though another mentioned needing to wipe "a huge amount of scum off the side."
  • Wood Burning Stove: The cabin includes an "awesome wood burning stove," perfect for cozy evenings, especially in winter. Wood is supplied for this, although one guest found it wet and difficult to light.
  • Outdoor Fire Pit: A designated area for outdoor fires, with wood supplied. However, a review noted it was "wet soggy and sliding off the mountain," indicating potential safety and functionality issues.
  • Kitchen Facilities: The cabin is equipped with kitchen amenities, allowing for self-catering. While one review mentioned limited and unsuitable cookware and no food storage, the intent is for guests to prepare their own meals.
  • Linens and Blankets: Provided for guest use, though one review suggested they "are in need of retirement or used as decoration only." Pillows were noted as "nice."
  • Outdoor Lounge Area: Includes string lights and a "day bed on the lower balcony so you can sleep outside," which one guest thoroughly enjoyed. This area's usability may depend on dry weather.
  • Composting Toilet: The cabin features a composting toilet. However, one guest described it as "not truly thus" and "an empty plastic thing" that was "not pleasant" and "made for stench," indicating a significant discrepancy in expectation vs. reality for this feature.
  • Washing Machine: A washing machine is listed as an amenity, though one review explicitly stated it was "not working."
  • Host Responsiveness: One reviewer noted the "host is really helpful and responsive," suggesting that management is available to address issues, though another reviewer had a negative experience with a staff member's response to a wet bathroom floor.

Sugar Creek Treehouse presents several distinctive features and highlights that aim to make it a memorable and unique mountain getaway experience. These aspects often draw guests seeking something beyond a typical hotel room:

  • Unique "Treehouse" Concept: The property is marketed as a treehouse, offering a novel and adventurous lodging option. While one review clarified it's "not truly a tree house" in the traditional sense (due to limited accessibility to the "tree part"), the overall design and elevated setting contribute to a treehouse-like ambiance.
  • Super Peaceful Creekside Location: The presence of a "beautiful creek running through it" creates a highly tranquil and serene environment, offering soothing sounds and a sense of deep connection with nature. This "super peaceful" setting is a major draw for those seeking relaxation.
  • Cozy and Well-Decorated Interior: Guests consistently praise the interior, describing it as "decorated so well" and "so cozy," creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that helps guests feel at home.
  • Outdoor Hot Tub: A significant highlight, providing a luxurious and relaxing amenity to enjoy the mountain air, even at night. This is a highly sought-after feature in mountain rentals.
  • Outdoor Fire Pit with Wood Provided: The idea of a fire pit with supplied wood offers a classic outdoor mountain experience, perfect for evenings under the stars.
  • Outdoor Day Bed on Lower Balcony: A unique and appealing feature for those wanting to "sleep outside" or simply relax outdoors, enjoying the natural sounds.
  • Wood Burning Stove: Provides a charming and effective heat source for chilly evenings, enhancing the cozy cabin feel. One guest was eager to "make the most of that wood burning stove" in winter.
  • Proximity to Outdoor Recreation: The cabin serves as a great base for exploring nearby attractions like Mount Mitchell and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and there's a "nearby... river you can swim in," appealing to outdoor enthusiasts.

However, it is crucial to address the significant concerns raised by guests that impact the experience of these features:

  • Access Challenges: "Threaturous" and poorly lit paths, and the strong recommendation for 4WD, suggest access can be difficult, especially for those not "surefooted" or with mobility issues. The "tree part of the tree location isn't accessible to those overweight" and even a 13-year-old "had a hard time accessing."
  • Maintenance & Cleanliness Issues: Several significant problems were reported, including a "nasty wet restroom floor," "washing machine not working," "fire pit wet soggy and sliding off the mountain," a composting toilet that was "not pleasant" and smelled, and "huge amount of scum off the side" of the hot tub. Sheets and blankets were also deemed "in need of retirement."
  • Unresponsive Property Management (in one instance): One guest felt the staff member was "not concerned about hospitality" when complaining about the wet bathroom floor and "did nothing for our wet nasty floor or the towels I had to use too."

These varied experiences suggest that while the property has unique and appealing features, potential guests should be aware of potential functional and maintenance shortcomings.

As a private vacation rental rather than a traditional hotel, Sugar Creek Treehouse typically doesn't offer conventional hotel-style promotions (like AAA discounts or loyalty programs). Instead, special offers or pricing variations would generally come through the property management or booking platforms. It is always best to check directly with the contact provided or the specific rental platform where the property is listed for the most current information. However, common ways such unique vacation rentals might offer value or special conditions include:

  • Seasonal Pricing: Rates for unique properties like treehouses often fluctuate significantly based on the season, demand, and local events. Prices are likely to be higher during peak seasons (e.g., fall foliage, summer holidays) and potentially lower during off-peak times (e.g., late winter, early spring).
  • Off-Peak or Weekday Discounts: Booking during weekdays (Monday-Thursday) or in less popular months might result in lower nightly rates.
  • Extended Stay Discounts: Some rental properties offer reduced nightly rates for longer stays, such as booking for a full week or more.
  • Last-Minute Deals: If the property has unbooked dates approaching quickly, the owners or management might offer last-minute discounts to fill the vacancy.
  • Direct Booking Perks: While not always the case, sometimes booking directly through the property owner or a specific management website (if available) can offer slight savings by avoiding third-party platform fees, or might include small perks.

Given the significant investment noted by one reviewer ("I paid big money"), and concerns about value ("for the price it did not meet my expectations"), it becomes even more important for potential guests to carefully review the pricing for their desired dates and compare it with the amenities and condition described in both positive and negative reviews. Inquiring directly about any current specials or asking about specific concerns prior to booking can help ensure a more satisfying experience.

For inquiries or to book your stay at Sugar Creek Treehouse, please use the following contact information:

Address: 27, Sugar Creek Ln, Green Mountain, NC 28740, USA

Phone: (724) 290-9323

Mobile Phone: +1 724-290-9323

When contacting, it would be beneficial to inquire about specific concerns raised in reviews, such as the condition of the composting toilet, the functionality of the washing machine, the state of the fire pit area, and the accessibility of the paths, especially if these are important factors for your stay. Clarifying these points beforehand can help set accurate expectations.

For locals in North Carolina, Sugar Creek Treehouse offers a uniquely appealing, albeit specific, option for a mountain retreat. Its suitability largely hinges on a traveler's desire for a truly distinctive, nature-immersed experience and their comfort with the nuances that often accompany such properties. The "super peaceful" setting with a "beautiful creek running through it" is a significant draw, providing the tranquil escape many seek in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cozy, well-decorated interior and the outdoor amenities like the hot tub, fire pit, and day bed offer a charming and intimate atmosphere not found in standard hotels.

For North Carolinians who frequently explore the outdoor wonders of the state, Sugar Creek Treehouse serves as an excellent "base to explore Mt Mitchell and the Blue Ridge Parkway." This proximity to iconic natural landmarks allows for easy access to hiking, scenic drives, and other outdoor adventures. The host's helpfulness and responsiveness, as noted in one positive review, suggest that assistance is available for guests, which is reassuring for private rentals.

However, it is vital for locals to consider the practical aspects highlighted by other reviews. The challenging access requiring 4WD, poorly lit paths, and the very specific nature of the composting toilet might not suit everyone. Similarly, the reported issues with cleanliness, maintenance (washing machine, fire pit, wet bathroom floor), and the condition of some linens suggest that while the concept is delightful, the execution may sometimes fall short of expectations, especially "for the price." Therefore, Sugar Creek Treehouse is most suitable for adventurous, flexible North Carolinians who prioritize a unique, secluded nature experience, are comfortable with a more rustic-leaning stay, and are prepared for potential minor inconveniences that may arise in such a distinctive property. Asking direct questions about current conditions before booking would be highly advisable to ensure it aligns perfectly with your vacation vision.

This place is just amazing. I stayed here last weekend with some friends and now I want to come back with my my husband. It's off a country road with a beautiful creek running through it so it is super peaceful. Inside is decorated so well, there's everything you need and it is so cozy. The hottub is fab and there's another section along a walkway with a fire pit which they supply the wood for. There's string lights and even a day bed on the lower balcony so you can sleep outside, which we did! I read the other review about too much wildlife...errr, it's a treehouse in the woods, what did you expect? We saw some caterpillars, spiders and a few wild turkey. Nearby is a river you can swim in and it is a great spot to use as a base to explore Mt Mitchell and the Blue ridge Parkway. The host is really helpful and responsive. I can't wait to come back in the winter and make the most of that wood burning stove. Really can't recommend it enough. Sam

it’s too bad you can’t leave a negative amount of stars for a review because i certainly would pertaining to this “spectacular treehouse!” I was highly disapppointed in my stay when i was greeted by snakes, flies, ants, spiders, and an animal in the bathroom which awoke me and my family, leaving us to contact the owners friend because she was too busy spending our money in europe than to provide a decent act of customer service. this treehouse was overpriced, the website is utterly misleading and the owner is a disgrace to the “earthy environment and mother nature” by claiming she doesn’t use pesticides although she has poison and traps to kill nature that is “their home and not ours.” she told us to pick somewhere different to stay next time and rest assured it won’t be that shack.

Very cozy cabin set off of the main road! Very quiet and peaceful. Being able to hear creek right outside is very relaxing. Great for getaways!

We loved the place and the setting was amazing, we just froze being there this time of year. I would only go when it isn't freezing. The space heater wasn't enough for us.
