The Tabard Inn, established in 1922, is not just a hotel; it's a piece of D.C. history, distinguished as the oldest inn in the city continuously owned and operated by women. It has maintained its "old timey feel" and character, transporting guests to a bygone era while offering modern comforts. The reviews consistently highlight its "amazing" atmosphere, from the entrance to the dining areas, and the "extremely welcoming and helpful" staff who contribute to a truly valued experience. This unique blend of historical charm, attentive service, and renowned culinary offerings makes the Tabard Inn a standout choice for those seeking something truly special in the District.
The Tabard Inn is gracefully situated at 1739 N St NW, Washington, DC 20036, USA. For us locals in the District of Columbia, this address immediately places it within the highly desirable and vibrant Dupont Circle neighborhood, offering an excellent balance of urban convenience and a charming, tree-lined residential feel.
Its location is often praised for its "great location and great Charm," providing easy access to a wealth of D.C.'s attractions. The inn is just a short walk from the bustling heart of Dupont Circle, known for its eclectic mix of shops, art galleries, lively cafes, and diverse restaurants. Furthermore, guests note that it's "central to monuments and museums," allowing for comfortable exploration of iconic sites. The White House is approximately 0.8 miles away (about a 14-minute walk), and the National Mall with its Smithsonian museums is also easily reachable. Being "within a 5-minute drive of Smithsonian Institution and Walter E. Washington Convention Center" highlights its central business and leisure appeal.
In terms of public transportation, the Tabard Inn offers "easy access to the Metro." It's within a short walking distance to two major Metro stations: Dupont Circle (Red Line), approximately 0.3 miles away (a 6-minute walk), and Farragut North (Red Line), also conveniently close. These Metro connections provide efficient and quick access to virtually every corner of D.C., including Capitol Hill, downtown business districts, and various cultural institutions. For those arriving by air, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is about 3.8 miles away, making for a relatively quick taxi or Metro ride. While parking is available, it's typically offsite and may require reservations with a fee (around $26 per night), which is consistent with D.C. pricing for secure parking. This blend of historic tranquility, excellent walkability, and strong public transport links makes the Tabard Inn a uniquely accessible and appealing choice for anyone exploring our nation's capital.
While the Tabard Inn exudes an old-world charm, it still participates in various channels that might offer promotions or special packages, making a stay at this historic gem even more appealing for locals and visitors alike. As a unique, independently-minded inn rather than a large chain, its offers might be less standardized but still worth seeking out.
Common avenues for potential savings or added value include checking their official website directly. Inns often post specific seasonal packages or deals tied to local D.C. events or quieter periods of the year. Given its renowned restaurant, look for packages that might include a dining credit or complimentary breakfast/brunch, which is highly recommended by guests. You might also find offers for extended stays, providing a discounted rate for booking multiple nights. As a "neighborhood gem," the Tabard Inn occasionally offers unique packages that highlight local experiences. While they don't have a large chain loyalty program, booking directly can sometimes unlock minor perks or the best available rates. For the most current and accurate information on any ongoing promotions or special offers, including any bespoke packages that celebrate the Inn's unique character, we highly recommend visiting the Tabard Inn's official website or contacting their reservations team directly. A quick inquiry could reveal the perfect opportunity to experience this charming piece of D.C. history.

Jun 16, 2025 · Zeljko SobatDo not misunderstand! I absolutely loved my visit! This was our wedding anniversary trip and God we love homes with history. It was so amazing and I would come again but, that would only be if the beds mattress! I am 8 months pregnant and I could not sleep on the bed. It was such a rock. My husband serves in the Navy and he congratulated me on knowing how his rack on the ship felt. I understand and ilg building will have its old charm. The creaking is loud but, what do you expect. This place has seen lifetimes. If anything I liked it. You couldn't hear the neighbors which is already a win in my book. The water was a nice touch! Thank you for having us!
Apr 21, 2025 · Tamara SuessCozy inn just south of DuPont Circle. The Navy Waves stayed there. Jazz in the restaurant on Sundays and Mondays. The breakfast was fantastic! I had a different meal every morning. The French toast and omelet were good. Donuts are to die for. They are fantastic! The room was good. The tub was too tall for me as I have short legs. No elevator too, but I was prepared with my small suitcase and backpack. No tv too, but I saw tv at the Courtyard Marriott before I went back to the hotel. Service was fantastic! Friendly people. Restaurant’s rock fish was good too. Iron Gate across the street was amazing. Book it on OpenTable.
