Like many things, a stay at The Dive Motel has its pros and cons. The Pros: killer aesthetic, fun vibe, comfy beds, not far from downtown, and tickets upon check in for free canned drinks at their bar, just for staying at the motel. The Cons: the structure was built in 1956(?) so the pipes are old and there is little to no sound proofing/insulation. We travel with a white noise sound machine and still heard conversations of people walking by our room early in the morning. Also, on-site parking is very limited and if you arrive on the weekend there may not be on-site parking (meaning that you have to park at the neighboring school). While The Dive has security cameras in their small parking lot, the school may or may not be aware that motel guests park on their property on the weekends. Even in The Dive’s small parking lot they have multiple signs stating they are not responsible for break-ins or stolen items. When I asked the girl at check in she told me “break-ins don’t happen *that* often”. More than once constitutes a problem in my eyes but our vehicle was unscathed after a night at The Dive. The motel is not in the safest part of town, but it wasn’t a bad Uber ride to and from The Dive and Downtown Nashville. The light switch to control the in-room music also controlled the disco ball, so if you wanted to enjoy their radio, you had to have the disco ball spinning. Not a big con but a minor inconvenience. We did not bring swim suits (and we were only in town for a show the night of our stay) so we didn’t enjoy the pool. It does seem like a hip hangout. If the parking weren’t a problem and the rooms had better insulation/noise reduction, we would stay there again, everything considered.

Introduction / Overview
The Dive Motel, located at 1414 Dickerson Pike, Nashville, TN 37207, USA, is far from a conventional hotel. It's an adults-only, retro-inspired boutique motel and swim club that has carved out a distinct niche in Nashville's vibrant hospitality scene. Housed in a renovated 1956 motor inn (originally The Key Motel, which once hosted legends like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton), The Dive Motel fully embraces its vintage roots while infusing a playful, modern, and often quirky aesthetic.
The core of The Dive Motel experience revolves around its "killer aesthetic" and "fun vibe." Each of its 23 rooms is uniquely designed and individually decorated with a distinct retro theme, some even featuring shag carpet and double soaking tubs. A standout feature in every room is the "Party Switch," which, when flipped, activates a disco ball that spins to the tunes of one of four themed radio channels: Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n Roll, and Sleep. This immersive detail contributes significantly to the motel's whimsical and engaging atmosphere.
Beyond the rooms, The Dive Motel boasts a lively Swim Club, featuring a 60-foot outdoor pool, a hot tub, a wooden sauna, and cabanas. The Swim Club is a major draw, open to motel guests and the public (with paid passes) for a vibrant daytime and early evening scene. The on-site Dive Bar further enhances the social atmosphere, providing a spot for guests to unwind, enjoy handcrafted cocktails, local brews, and often live music or DJ sets. Guests often receive tickets upon check-in for free canned drinks at the bar, adding to the welcoming experience.
While the aesthetic and ambiance are consistently praised, guests should be aware of some structural realities of a building built in 1956, such as "old pipes" and "little to no sound proofing/insulation," meaning noise from hallways can be audible. Despite these points, the overall consensus is that The Dive Motel offers a memorable, hip, and enjoyable stay for those seeking something truly different in Nashville.
Location and Accessibility
The Dive Motel is situated at 1414 Dickerson Pike, Nashville, TN 37207, USA. This address places it in North Nashville, an area that is known for its diverse character and is undergoing revitalization. While some guest reviews mention that the motel "is not in the safest part of town," its proximity to major roadways and downtown Nashville still makes it quite accessible for those with transportation.
Dickerson Pike is a main artery that leads directly to downtown Nashville, typically making for a "not a bad Uber ride to and from The Dive and Downtown Nashville," often taking around 5-10 minutes. This provides convenient access to Nashville's iconic attractions, including Broadway's honky-tonks, Nissan Stadium (home of the Tennessee Titans, roughly 4-minute drive), Ryman Auditorium, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and Bridgestone Arena (all within a 5-minute drive). First Horizon Park and Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park are also nearby, within a 3-mile radius.
For air travelers, Nashville International Airport (BNA) is approximately 7.3 miles (around a 14-minute drive), making it a relatively quick commute for arrivals and departures. The motel offers free self-parking on site. However, it's important to note, as one review explicitly states, that "on-site parking is very limited and if you arrive on the weekend there may not be on-site parking," potentially requiring guests to park at a neighboring school. While the motel has security cameras, guests are advised that the motel is "not responsible for break-ins or stolen items," prompting awareness about vehicle security.
In essence, while the immediate surroundings might not be the most walkable or traditionally "picturesque" for all guests, The Dive Motel's location offers efficient vehicular access to the core of Nashville's entertainment and cultural districts, making it a functional and uniquely positioned base for exploring Music City.

For us Tennesseans, especially those in the Nashville area, The Dive Motel offers a highly suitable and uniquely appealing option for a distinctive local getaway or a memorable experience. It's not a conventional hotel, and that's precisely its charm and why it resonates with a certain segment of our community.

For locals looking for a "staycation" that feels like a true escape, or a place to bring out-of-town friends who want to experience Nashville's quirky side, The Dive Motel delivers on personality. The individually themed rooms with their "Party Switch" and disco balls offer an entertaining and Instagram-worthy experience right here in our city.

For a Nashville resident wanting to embrace the city's eclectic spirit, enjoy a vibrant scene, and have a truly memorable, one-of-a-kind overnight adventure, The Dive Motel is an excellent and exciting choice right in our own backyard.

Apr 07, 2025 · Meredith PBooked a room for 3 people, A King bed. Got there to check in and the Owner stated due to Nashville Law only two people were allowed to stay in one room. She wanted us to book another room to leave one of the girls by ourselves!?! Do not give them your business! Went and booked another room where the manager told us they’ve never heard of that “rule”. Don’t waste your time.
Mar 23, 2025 · Kenleigh OrsoWe had an amazing stay at The Dive Motel in Nashville! The vibe is so fun and unique—with a retro, quirky feel, bold colors, neon signs, and a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere that made our visit extra special. It was a bit cold during our stay, but the hot tub was the perfect way to unwind and warm up after a long drive. The welcome drinks were a great touch, and the motel is super dog-friendly, which was perfect for us since we were traveling with more than one dog. We’d definitely recommend The Dive Motel to anyone visiting Nashville and can’t wait to stay again!
Feb 24, 2025 · Holly MarkoI have done every Labor Day for the past 4 years! Most recently I had my bachelorette party there! It was absolutely amazing! 17 people were there and stayed at the motel! It couldn’t have been better! With the whimsy mood and the kind staff…I as always can’t wait to go back! Also ask for a shot of bam bam while you’re there! The bar is like stepping into a 1960’s old beach movie! It’s paradise! Thanks to the staff for making my wedding so special.
Jun 02, 2025 · Skye McCammonCanceled our reservation and kept our money. Stay here only if you want your money stolen and no room to stay in. We showed up for our PREPAID reservation, but due them not being able to confirm earlier in the day (booked through a third party and contact information was incorrectly defaulted to our credit card company contact information) they cancelled our reservation. We showed up late after our show, thinking we had a hotel, only to find it canceled. We had to sleep in our car the night of the tornado weather. It wasn’t our fault, and our money should have been refunded when it was cancelled. Great start to an Anniversary weekend….. Edit: I’m not Christine. If you know you have a problem with third party bookings, why do you accept third party bookings? To steal peoples money. Why did you cancel our reservation but keep our money? To steal our money. You are a thief and we are going to report you to the BBB(nevermind you’re not an accredited BBB business). I hope you spent our $225 well because it’s going to cost you a lot more money then that in the long run. Karma is real, good luck when it comes back to you. P.S.S. - I’ve booked MANY hotels and never had issues like this before. I’ve managed many businesses as well and if services were paid for but services were not provided, I’ve always issued refunds. That’s called good customer service and being a decent human being.
