310 Lake Shore Dr W, Dunkirk, NY 14048, USA
This place is only for homeless people that are in need of shelter for two weeks paid for by Department of Social Services. It provides the bare minimum as a shelter. The rooms are outdated and filthy. The rooms come with TVs and microwaves but neither work-it is just for looks. The owner runs the place like it's his own personal harem trying to control any female guests staying there. He also has a strict book of rules such as NO VISITORS ever. Should guests need housing after the two week period that DSS will pay for, they will be charged $90 per week-more than a real efficiency apartment would cost in this area. I wouldn't suggest anyone stay here for any reason. A car would be better accommodations!
For local users and those seeking accommodations within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category in Dunkirk, NY, The Dunkirk Motel offers a budget-oriented lodging option. Located at 310 Lake Shore Dr W, Dunkirk, NY 14048, USA, and reachable at (716) 366-2200 or +1 716-366-2200, this motel is situated within a short walking distance of Lake Erie and Point Gratiot Park.
Environment and Ambiance:
The Dunkirk Motel is positioned close to the shores of Lake Erie, providing a convenient location for access to the lake and nearby parks such as Point Gratiot Park (a 6-minute walk) and the Dunkirk Lighthouse and Veterans Park Museum (a 16-minute walk). It offers free self-parking and features a garden area. The building itself is described as a 25-room motel. However, recent guest reviews highlight that the rooms may appear "outdated" and, in some instances, "filthy," indicating that the overall ambiance may be more focused on providing basic shelter rather than a polished aesthetic. Guests looking for modern or luxurious accommodations may find the environment to be quite simple and functional.
Services and Amenities:
The Dunkirk Motel provides a range of essential amenities. It features a 24-hour front desk, ensuring staff are available around the clock. Complimentary in-room Wi-Fi is advertised as available in all rooms, and free Wi-Fi is also provided in public areas. Guests can expect air conditioning and heating in the rooms. Each room typically includes a 40-inch LED TV with premium cable channels, a private bathroom with a shower/bathtub combination and free toiletries, and free bottled water. Some listings also mention that rooms come with microwaves and refrigerators, which can be convenient for guests needing to store and prepare basic food items.
However, specific guest feedback suggests that while some amenities might be listed, their functionality can be inconsistent. For example, some reviews state that TVs and microwaves may be present but do not work, appearing to be "just for looks." Housekeeping is provided daily, though some sources suggest it might be available for an additional fee or vary based on the length of stay, so it's advisable to clarify this upon check-in. The motel offers free self-parking, including free RV/bus/truck parking on-site. The property is smoke-free. Languages spoken include English.
It's important to note that according to some detailed reviews, the motel's primary clientele might include individuals placed there by the Department of Social Services (DSS) for short-term shelter. This can influence the atmosphere and the specific services offered. Guests have reported strict policies, such as "NO VISITORS ever," which might impact those planning to have local acquaintances visit them at the motel. Additionally, while DSS may cover the initial two-week stay, guests extending beyond that period are reportedly charged $90 per week, which some consider high for the basic accommodations provided.
Features:
The Dunkirk Motel offers various room configurations, such as "Double Room" options, capable of sleeping up to four guests. Rooms typically include standard furnishings like beds and an office space. The motel aims to provide basic comfort with air conditioning, heating, and private bathrooms. Despite some descriptions mentioning "spring water bathtub," this may not be a universally available or distinctly noticeable feature for all guests. The overall emphasis appears to be on functionality and providing minimal, necessary facilities for a stay.
Promotional Information and Guest Experiences:
Promotional information generally highlights the Dunkirk Motel's convenient location near Lake Erie and other local attractions like the Dunkirk Historical Museum (a 3-minute drive) and State University of New York at Fredonia (a 6-minute drive). It is presented as an economical option for travelers seeking a place to stay in the Dunkirk area. Online listings also mention free WiFi and parking as key benefits.
However, real customer reviews provide a varied and sometimes concerning perspective on the guest experience. Some recent feedback suggests that the motel is predominantly used for individuals needing emergency housing, often through social services. These reviews describe the rooms as "outdated and filthy" and express concerns about safety, particularly for younger individuals or female guests. One review explicitly states, "Genuinely don't feel safe being here... I'm genuinely scared for my life after doing research!!!" and mentions a perception of the owner attempting to "control any female guests." Another review suggests the motel "provides the bare minimum as a shelter." Such candid feedback strongly indicates that the experience at The Dunkirk Motel may not align with typical expectations for a leisure or business stay, and prospective guests should approach it with a clear understanding of these reported conditions and the type of clientele it primarily serves. While some general online ratings give it around a 5.8 out of 10, indicating mixed reviews, the detailed comments are critical regarding cleanliness, working amenities, and management practices. Therefore, guests looking for a standard hotel or motel experience with a comfortable and secure environment might find the Dunkirk Motel falls short of expectations, especially if their visit is not related to social services housing.

Mar 26, 2025 · Noah'sMafiaMastixRude Staff, woke up itchy with little red bumps all over my neck and arms. Was told by a nurse they looked like bed bug bites. I wonder how much dried semen I laid in. Never Again. I would rather sleep in a dumpster, it would smell better.
Nov 20, 2023 · T. C.Absolutely disgusting. No heat. No toilet paper. No blankets. No house keeping at all. Rude racist staff/owners who were just awful to me. So awful I had to call the police on them. This place should be shut down. They are thieves who commit fraud and steal from the government. Disturbing.
Jan 13, 2023 · Jaralyn MajakOwners need to be stopped. Department social services uses this hotel for the homeless in crisis. The funds are state funded paying these people large amounts to give rooms to people who are treated like dogs. No heat, shower, bugs and filthy. Owners husband is creepy commenting on pretty girls. I will do everything to report them for taking advantage of the less fortunate and those with mental health issues. I have already reported to the department of human rights.
