We stayed in the Maplewood Hotel while we visited lilydale. It is in the town of Lily Dale and an easy walk to all of the meetings. The managers were very nice and! our room was sweet! They have a big porch on the front of the hotel where you can sit and rock in big rocking chairs with a beautiful view. It is close to the beach and the auditorium.

The Maplewood Hotel Introduce

For those utilizing platforms like "Hotels Near Of Me" and seeking a truly unique and historically rich accommodation experience, The Maplewood Hotel in Cassadaga, New York, offers a distinctive option. Located at 1 Cleveland Ave, Cassadaga, NY 14718, USA, and reachable by phone at (716) 595-8721 or mobile at +1 716-595-8721, this hotel is not just a place to stay; it's an integral part of the renowned Lily Dale Spiritualist community, steeped in history and offering a serene environment.

The environment of The Maplewood Hotel is deeply intertwined with Lily Dale itself. As a historic hotel, it "proudly reflects the antiquity of its 1880 beginnings," continually serving guests within this unique spiritualist assembly. The hotel is described as "charming and cozy," aiming to transport guests back in time to the early days of modern Spiritualism. A notable feature of the hotel is its large front porch, adorned with big rocking chairs, offering a "beautiful view" and serving as "a gathering place of like-minded people where you can relax... overlooking the parks and lake." This communal outdoor space is a significant draw, fostering a sense of peace and community among guests. The hotel's location directly within the town of Lily Dale means it's an "easy walk to all of the meetings," the beach, and the auditorium, making it incredibly convenient for visitors attending events or exploring the spiritualist grounds. It's a serene place, yet centrally located within Lily Dale.

The services at The Maplewood Hotel primarily focus on providing a comfortable and welcoming stay within its historic context. Guests have generally found the managers to be "very nice," contributing to a pleasant atmosphere. While not a conventional modern hotel with extensive amenities, the focus is on a more intimate, guesthouse-like experience. Rooms in the main hotel are described as "sweet" and comfortable. An ATM is available in the lobby for guest convenience. It's important to note that the hotel reflects its age and the nature of the Lily Dale community; therefore, some expectations regarding modern amenities might need to be adjusted. For instance, there is "no elevator/lift in this property." Also, a unique sign in the lobby states, "No Seances, readings or healings allowed," which underscores the hotel's role as a place of lodging rather than a center for spiritual services, despite its location within the community. A crucial detail for guests to be aware of, as highlighted by one review, pertains to rooms that may be rented out above the Lily Cafe, presumably when the main hotel is full. Guests renting these specific rooms have reported significant issues, including a "lack of hot water" due to sharing a hot water heater with the restaurant below, resulting in "barely tepid" or "cold water only" for showers. Additionally, there were complaints about rooms and shared bathrooms not being cleaned and fresh towels not being provided during a multi-day stay. This suggests that the standard of service can vary significantly depending on which specific accommodation is assigned by The Maplewood Hotel. Potential guests booking through "Hotels Near Of Me" should inquire about the exact location and type of room they will be assigned to ensure their expectations are met regarding amenities and housekeeping.

The features of The Maplewood Hotel are rooted in its historical character and its unique position within Lily Dale. The hotel offers a charming glimpse into the past, with its architecture and communal spaces reflecting a bygone era. The "big porch" with rocking chairs is a quintessential feature, offering a tranquil spot for contemplation and socializing. Rooms, at least within the main hotel, are furnished to provide a comfortable and "sweet" experience. The presence of the famous "Precipitated Painting of Azur" in the Azur Room off the lobby provides a perfect place for quiet meditation and reflection, adding to the spiritual ambiance of the location. However, the specific rooms rented above the Lily Cafe are described as "small, rustic, and share a bathroom," which are features to be considered by guests seeking a more private or modern experience. While some might be "fine with" shared bathrooms and rustic accommodations, the significant issue of hot water and lack of cleaning in these specific outsourced rooms is a critical feature to consider. The hotel's appeal lies in its authentic connection to Lily Dale and its historic charm, rather than extensive modern luxuries. It provides a base for exploring the community, its meetings, the beach, and the auditorium, all within comfortable walking distance. Gate passes for Lily Dale Assembly are "not included in the occupancy rates" for the hotel, and guests must purchase these separately online or at the entrance to Lily Dale.

From a promotional perspective, The Maplewood Hotel's primary appeal, especially for those searching "Hotels Near Of Me," is its unique location directly within Lily Dale. This makes it an ideal choice for individuals attending events, lectures, or workshops within the Spiritualist community, or simply those curious to experience its distinctive atmosphere. The hotel's historic charm and peaceful setting are strong selling points, appealing to guests looking for a retreat from conventional travel. The positive experiences with friendly managers and comfortable rooms in the main hotel contribute to word-of-mouth recommendations. However, the reported issues with the Lily Cafe rooms could negatively impact its overall reputation and should be a point of transparency for the hotel when promoting its offerings. For guests, verifying which type of room they are booking is crucial. Despite this, for visitors specifically needing to stay "on the grounds" of Lily Dale, The Maplewood Hotel remains a primary, often essential, option. Its proximity to key Lily Dale attractions like the auditorium and the beach, coupled with the opportunity to engage with the unique spiritualist community, makes it a destination in itself rather than just a place to sleep. The hotel's historical significance and tranquil environment continue to attract a niche clientele, even with the reported inconsistencies in some of its outsourced accommodations. Therefore, for those seeking a truly immersive Lily Dale experience, The Maplewood Hotel remains a relevant and often chosen lodging, provided they are aware of the potential variations in room types.

This review pertains specifically to the rooms above the Lily Cafe that are rented by the Maplewood - and I suspect they only use them if the hotel itself is full. If they want to give you a room there, go ANYWHERE else. Rooms are small, rustic and share a bathroom - which I'm fine with. My complaint is specifically about the lack of hot water. The water temperature in the shower, if you are lucky, is barely tepid - and if you're unlucky, it's just cold water only. I found out that this is because all of the rooms SHARE a hot water heater with the restaurant below. So even if you're first in the shower in the morning, any hot water has already been used by the commercial establishment directly below. At least one of the guests there checked out and booked a room in Jamestown as soon as she discovered this, but we were stuck there for three days because we needed to stay on the grounds and there were no accommodations available anywhere else. During our three-day stay, our rooms (including the shared bathroom) were never cleaned, and we never received fresh towels - ironic, considering that tip envelopes with little happy faces drawn on them had been left prominently displayed on the dresser for us to see. If you're booking through Maplewood, don't let them put you here.

Do not book at this hotel if you have your heart set on staying inside the Lily Dale gates. They are notorious for "over-booking" and sending guests to their sister "hotel" which is a dilapidated, partially boarded-up building outside the Lily Dale area. It appears that they will not accommodate guests anywhere else on the grounds or outside the grounds. I strongly suggest you reserve a space at one of the lovely cottages on the property if you genuinely wish to enjoy the benefits of being in Lily Dale. There is just as much historic value.

The staff were really nice and if they didn't know the answer to the questions that my friend or I had, they were able to quickly find one. It was a nice coming back to the room later on to find that my room was nice and clean and bed freshly made (much better job than most brand hotels). Although the room was a little on the small side, this was also how the hotel was originally built in the 1800's. There's no need for a TV, as you'll be very busy while you're at Lily Dale. Since this hotel dates back to the 1800's, just looking at the history that's around you in your room, the several hallways throughout the hotel and the many other common areas is a wonderful experience of it's own. When you get lost in the details, it feels as though you're taking a journey back in time. The outside porch, which feels like a patio, was also a great place to sit back and relax in a rocking chair to unwind & decompress from an otherwise very busy day at Lily Dale and watching the Sunset over Cassadaga Lake. Overall, I had a really great experience at this hotel and look forward to coming back next year with a few more friends.

Before booking, we were told there was no AC but they would provide us with “as many fans as needed” since we would be on the 3rd floor. When we arrived, the staff was anything but friendly. The women working the desk were rude, impatient, snippy and also informed us we would not be getting any extra fans because they could not accommodate us. I have never been treated or spoke to in this manner while patroning a business before, it genuinely made me rethink my entire stay in this facility and I almost asked for a refund to leave. This rickety old building hasn’t been cleaned or remodeled since it was built in the 1800s, so the price for what you are getting is NOT it. The doors are hard to close and even harder to open from the inside. We were provided with ONE box fan, in which the chord for the only outlet in the room wasn’t even long enough to reach the window. There is also broken picture frames with missing chunks of glass hanging in the room. just don’t stay here, find a cottage they’re much nicer and much more comfortable.
