The Dutton House Inn occupies a building with a rich history, once serving as Bangor's almshouse and later a college dormitory. This historical background contributes to its unique environment, blending old-world charm with updated modern comforts. The property is designed to provide a "home-felt feel" for its guests, whether they are traveling professionals, students, or individuals attending events in the area. It prides itself on being a small 50-room community, aiming to offer affordable housing without the long-term commitment of traditional leasing. While it is an older building, efforts have been made to maintain it, and common spaces, including shared bathrooms, are cleaned daily.
The services offered at The Dutton House Inn are tailored to its extended-stay model. It provides furnished private rooms of varying types and sizes, each equipped with essentials such as a flat-screen TV with cable channels, a small refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee machine, and basic kitchen essentials. Guests have access to shared bathrooms, which are reportedly cleaned regularly. For convenience, the inn offers laundry facilities in the basement, allowing guests to handle their personal washing needs on-site. Free high-speed internet (WiFi) is available, a crucial amenity for both leisure and business travelers. The inn also provides free parking for its guests. The management, particularly mentioned through the individual named Mary in customer reviews, is highlighted for being "incredibly helpful and kind," highly responsive to calls and messages, and dedicated to ensuring guests' needs are met. This personal touch in service is a significant aspect of the Dutton House Inn experience, as reported by patrons.
Key features of The Dutton House Inn revolve around its concept of affordable, flexible, and communal living. Unlike conventional hotels, it operates with a focus on guests who might need accommodation for longer periods, without the commitment of a lease. This makes it an attractive option for those seeking temporary housing solutions. The rooms are individually decorated and aim to provide a comfortable, private space. While bathrooms are shared, they are maintained regularly. The property offers shared common areas designed for guest use. For instance, there's a lobby with pool tables and a game room equipped with board games and flat-screen TVs, fostering a sense of community and providing free entertainment. This emphasis on shared amenities and a communal environment differentiates it from standard hotel offerings.
However, it is important to provide a balanced and objective view based on available information, including customer reviews. Some aspects that prospective guests should be aware of include the shared bathroom facilities, which may not appeal to everyone. Additionally, some past reviews have mentioned challenges such as the presence of bats, which, while seemingly common in the area according to one review, could be a concern for some. More significantly, there have been reports of security issues, specifically concerning homeless individuals gaining entry into the building multiple times, and instances of disruptive or problematic neighbors. A particularly concerning review also mentions difficulties in retrieving security deposits, with claims of ignored calls and excuses from management despite the room being left spotless. While other reviews laud the responsiveness and helpfulness of the management, this discrepancy suggests that guest experiences can vary. The inn's structure as a place for longer-term, affordable stays means it may attract a diverse range of tenants, which can lead to varying social dynamics and experiences. Potential guests should weigh the benefits of affordability and flexibility against these reported challenges, especially regarding security and the return of deposits.
In terms of promotional information, The Dutton House Inn appeals to those looking for "affordable housing without the commitment of leasing." It positions itself as a unique alternative to traditional motels or hotels, particularly for traveling professionals, students, and tourists exploring the area who need a base for an extended period. The inn advertises daily, weekly, and monthly rates, offering flexibility in booking duration. The presence of amenities like free games and entertainment, along with furnished rooms, is highlighted to attract guests seeking value and a comfortable, self-sufficient stay. While specific promotional campaigns might vary, the core appeal lies in its cost-effectiveness and suitability for longer stays in the Bangor area. For local users searching for "Hotels Near Me," The Dutton House Inn stands out as a budget-friendly option, particularly for those who prioritize extended stay flexibility and a community-oriented atmosphere over the full-service luxuries of a conventional hotel.

Jan 08, 2025 · Mahitha owkPartner and I thought we saw a bat, the landlady offered us a small net. Apparently bats there are pretty common though as I saw one upstairs and talked to other tenants and heard other stories of bats. Another issue is homeless people getting into the building though, which happened to us consistently being there, right beside our room... 5 different times. We also were roomed beside a racist yelling neighbor who only left on his own accord. Also, don't expect your deposit back, my partner and I cleaned our bedding and pillow covers regularly, and I left the room spotless before leaving and the landlady made excuses not to take calls and then ignored me all together.
Aug 25, 2022 · Joe DamonI stayed here for a short time last year (2018). Nice place. It is safe, secure, and clean. Great prices for the rent & amenities. Wish I had stayed longer. The Inn's location is a major positive too. Close to Interstate (I-95). Walking distance to convenience stores, Hollywood Casino & Hotel, and close to Shaw's grocery store. The staff was helpful, hard-working, and available when needed. Denise in particular. She works hard at keeping the rooms and common areas clean and tidy so guests can enjoy the many amenities. She also works hard to resolve problems and move tenants that would rather be on a different floor. The kitchen is spacious. Easy to cook. A prep island would be a great addition. There is ample space for one. The Inn is tastefully decorated; right down to the individual bedrooms. New furnishings throughout. Feels like home. I made a short video tour using pics I took while I was a resident there. I wish I could upload it so others can see what a nice place it is. Great atmosphere to make friends too. I only wish I had been physically well when I stayed there. I would have been able to enjoy it much more. But I do have fond memories of this Inn.
Jan 03, 2020 · Kathi H.I can't stay there, they say I don't qualify cause I'm on disability, I can afford the rent but they still won't let me stay there, it's a hotel not a apartment complex. I even told the lady I was approved for the covid rent relief program and she said that I still didn't qualify and that the covid relief was ending that month which is obviously untrue and that I still don't qualify and hung up on me, wasn't very nice at all! But I do have a Male cat that is fixed and stays to himself and I'd imagine they don't allow animals even though most hotels do nowadays and he likes to spend most of his time outdoors and sleeping, I have another friend that would stay there but the lady was very unprofessional and I'm sure they won't expect my cat, even if it helps keep someone from becoming homeless
May 25, 2022 · ChandraGreat room, great staff, Camille was really helpful and her and her team worked hard to make it a good stay. Thank you all for all your support.
