Located at 325 Main St, Norwich, VT 05055, USA, and easily reached by phone at (802) 649-1143 or +1 802-649-1143, this iconic inn blends colonial charm with modern hospitality. This detailed introduction will objectively explore its unique environment, comprehensive services, charming features, and various promotional appeals, drawing upon publicly available information and genuine guest experiences.

The environment of The Norwich Inn is inherently charming and deeply rooted in the quintessential New England village aesthetic. Situated on Main Street in Norwich, Vermont, a hamlet that "sits right across the river from Dartmouth College while feeling worlds away," it offers a serene and picturesque setting. Norwich itself is a historic town, known for its active town green, marble-engraved street names, and a strong sense of community. The Inn has a remarkable history dating back to 1797, with the current Victorian structure rebuilt in 1890 after a devastating fire. This rich heritage contributes significantly to its atmosphere, offering guests a glimpse into Vermont's past. The surrounding area is incredibly convenient for various activities. It's notably less than a 5-minute drive from the King Arthur Baking Company, making it "the perfect location" for those attending baking courses, as highlighted by multiple guests. Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, is just about a mile away, making the Inn an ideal base for university visitors. The Upper Valley region, where Norwich is located, is renowned for its natural beauty, featuring rolling hills, covered bridges (like the Union Village Covered Bridge), and opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, skiing (Dartmouth Skiway is 20 minutes away), canoeing, and fishing. The presence of local farms, a farmers' market, and a commitment to the Vermont Fresh Network ensures access to fresh, local produce and a vibrant culinary scene. The Inn's garden and terrace also offer peaceful outdoor spaces, contributing to a tranquil and inviting environment.

The services at The Norwich Inn are designed to provide a full-service experience that complements its historic setting. A standout feature is the on-site dining, including Jasper Murdock's Alehouse, a pub and microbrewery. This unique amenity allows guests to savor "hand-crafted English-Style Ales" brewed on-site and enjoyed in a cozy atmosphere, complete with a bar that sometimes features live music. The Inn's dining room also serves breakfast and dinner, and guests have praised the friendly and helpful staff who are "very accommodating" and willing to "store the output from the class in their fridges/freezers" for King Arthur Baking Company students. For breakfast, a buffet style is offered daily (for a surcharge), which is described as "decent morning breakfast" by some guests, though others have found it varied. Complimentary coffee and tea are available 24 hours a day in the Main Inn lobby. The Inn boasts a 24-hour front desk, ensuring that assistance is always available. Other amenities include a 24-hour fitness center, a garden, a terrace, and a library with a cozy fireplace. For business needs, there's a 24-hour business center, computer stations, and various meeting rooms, totaling approximately 6,846 square feet of conference space, suitable for meetings, banquets, and receptions. Free parking is available for guests, and the property is wheelchair accessible. The Inn is also pet-friendly (upon request, charges may apply), which is a valuable service for many travelers. Daily housekeeping ensures rooms are "clean and well kept," reflecting a commitment to guest comfort.

The features of The Norwich Inn blend traditional aesthetics with modern comforts across its 40 guest rooms, spread across the Main Inn, the Walker House, and Ivy Lodge buildings. Each room is "individually decorated," often with "country-like quilts" and angled ceilings in the historic Main Inn, evoking a Victorian era charm. Many rooms, particularly in the Main Inn, feature a "gas fireplace," which guests from warmer climates especially appreciated for "taking a bit of the spring chill off my bones." All rooms are equipped with new flat-screen TVs with premium cable channels, free high-speed wireless internet access, hairdryers, irons, and ironing boards. For convenience, some rooms also include microwaves and refrigerators. The beds are described as "comfy," ensuring a good night's sleep. The property offers various room types, including Standard, Standard Plus, Deluxe (often with King beds), and one-bedroom suites with sleeper sofas, catering to different group sizes and preferences. The presence of a "beautiful garden" and "sun terrace" offers additional spaces for relaxation. The Inn is committed to sustainability, being a Vermont Green Hotel with initiatives like solar hot water panels and an advanced central air system that brings in fresh air. The Jasper Murdock's Alehouse, a microbrewery within the Inn, is a unique feature that sets it apart from many other hotels, offering a distinct local experience with its handcrafted ales. The Inn is also noted for its extensive wine selection, housed in a new wine cellar, which can also be used for private parties.

A quaint inn that's perfectly colonial. Clean and well kept. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you're planning on taking a class at the King Arthur Baking school, which is less than a 5 minute drive, it's the perfect place to stay.

Our company had the pleasure of hosting our Christmas party this past weekend at the Norwich Inn. Linda and the team was exceptionally attentive to our needs both in the initial planning stages and during the event. The reserved spaces were gorgeous, providing ample room for our large group to socialize before our meal. The food was exceptional; beautifully prepared and presented, as well as the inn's signature cocktails and mocktails. Following dinner, we held a gift exchange in the living room; the fireplace and the Christmas tree created the perfect cozy setting. We had a truly wonderful time celebrating a great business year, and the Norwich Inn was a fabulous host.

This is a comfortable place to stay. It is an older building with its creeky floors, old doors, bathrooms, and old style beds, but it's clean and comfortable with a ton of charm. The main floor has some picturesk rooms with comfortable areas for sitting, a nice restaurant and bar area as well. It is somewhat close to many popular areas, like Harvard and King Arthur Flour Co. It is not set up to be handicapped accessable due to the age of the building and does not lend itself easily to any type modification of the wanted to. It is worth a visit as long as you take it in as an experience and enjoy is foibles for what they are. If you found this review helpful, please tap the thumbs up to let me know. Thanks!

should be a 4.5, hotel is great, old, good staff, clean, awesome location, next to a country store where you can buy everything AND the kitchen sink, including the exceptional Heady Topper beer that hotel staff gladly stored cold for me (no fridges in rooms), but I recommend skipping the very basic $15 pp continental breakfast that is not included (most other hotels include these days for these rates) to go to Hanover options or King Arthur bakery (short drive away) for better food and similar prices. I would come back and stay, but $15 for breakfast is out of whack.
