The rooms are ok but we found bugs on the bed. Not sure what kind they are but definitely not ok for this kind of boutique nice hotel. The restaurant is mediocre at best... expensive and the portions might as well be for kids or part of a sampler, and the wait staff (at least the one we had) was not good at all. You have to beg for water as the only 2 water bottles in the room cost $6 each and one of them is sparkling. They tell you that you can refill the bottle at one of the 2 water stations downstairs but housekeeping just threw the one $6 bottle we had. Then to make matters worse, at the end of the horrendous experience, they offered us Marriott points (which never showed up) and a promise to get the eco team in the room after we checked out... I honestly thought they may just comp the stay in addition to the points that they promised seeing that we had BED BUGS! but that's just wishful thinking I suppose. Lastly, the walls are paperthin... I could hear literally everything in the next room. The gym was probably the only nice thing!

Environment and Ambiance: Where History Meets Modern Luxury

The Press Hotel's environment is intrinsically tied to its fascinating history. Housed in the beautifully restored Gannett Building, which once served as the offices and printing press for the Portland Press Herald, the hotel seamlessly blends its storied past with contemporary design. • Wood Floors with Herringbone Area Rugs: Adding a touch of classic elegance and warmth to the rooms.
  • Oversized Windows: Providing ample natural light and, in some cases, views of the city.
  • Literary One-Liners: Playful quotes and literary references are subtly integrated throughout the rooms, adding charm and character.
  • High-Quality Bedding: Frette™ linens, Cuddledown® comforters, hypo-allergenic bedding, and pillow-top beds ensure a luxurious and comfortable sleep experience.

The hotel offers a variety of room types, from standard king and double rooms to deluxe guest rooms and an expansive Penthouse Suite with rooftop access and 360-degree city views. What a elevated, luxurious hotel. We were so impressed with the style and design. In the room, it was spacious and a wonderful bathroom. Great towels and amenities. Conveniently located too!

We eloped here. It was across the street from city hall, and close to the best of Portland. The best customer service from everyone even the maintenance guy who was our friend my the end of the trip. Very pet friendly. They gave us a little care package for our pet, which was amazing!

You can’t beat this for the overall look, design, location, and amenities in downtown Portland in my opinion. It’s an easy walk to everything in the old port district. The rooms felt brand new even though it’s an historic building. The bar service was friendly and the lobby is inviting.

Like the theme and history of the hotel but rooms were on the small side and not very sound proof, thus my lower rating for rooms. Water came at $6 a bottle unless you reached certain water dispensers (not on every floor). There was a short flight of steps leading up to the lobby and not sure what handicap facilities were available. Friendly service though and staff mostly helpful.
