My room was clean and had the basics. It was quiet majority of the time. The location was great and in a nice neighborhood. I was walking distance from a lot of historical sites and restaurants. The only downside was the mobile key on the app didn’t work so I had to type in the code multiple times each time I wanted to enter my room but for the price I paid I’d still say it’s worth it. The Queen Hotel Queen Village, Sonder Introduce

For those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in Philadelphia, The Queen Hotel Queen Village, Sonder, offers a distinctive and modern accommodation experience, particularly appealing to independent travelers who value autonomy and a vibrant neighborhood setting. Located at 628 S 5th St, Philadelphia, PA 19147, USA, this Sonder property provides a tech-forward approach to hospitality, blending the convenience of a hotel with the feel of a residential apartment in the historic Queen Village.

Environment: Historic Charm Meets Digital Convenience

The Queen Hotel Queen Village is situated in the charming and historic Queen Village neighborhood of Philadelphia. This area is known for its cobblestone streets, colonial-era homes, and a lively atmosphere with a mix of independent boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. The hotel’s location is consistently praised by guests as "great" and being "in a nice neighborhood," offering walking distance to numerous historical sites and dining establishments. The building itself is designed to integrate into this historic fabric while providing a modern interior. The overall environment is one of self-sufficiency, where guests manage their stay primarily through digital means. While the majority of the time, the rooms are described as "quiet," there are instances where noise from other guests in the halls has been a significant issue, leading to disturbed sleep for some, indicating that soundproofing might be a concern in certain areas or during peak activity. Despite this, the aesthetic aims for a clean, functional, and contemporary look, providing the "basics" for a comfortable stay without unnecessary frills.

Services: Automated Experience with Self-Sufficiency

The core of The Queen Hotel's service model is its "staffless/electronic approach." This means that traditional hotel services, such as a physical front desk or on-site staff, are minimal or non-existent. Guests primarily interact with the property through an app and keypads. The intent is for the mobile key on the app to provide seamless access to doors, though one customer noted this feature "didn't work," requiring them to "type in 4 codes for 4 doors every time." This highlights a potential area where the technology-driven service can falter, leading to frustration. Unlike traditional hotels, there is "no cleaning, no new sheets or towels, or anything, you have to do that yourself," which is an important consideration for potential guests, particularly those accustomed to daily hotel services. For those requiring a later departure, a "late checkout" option is available for an additional fee, though one review noted an incident where a cleaning person entered their room without knocking an hour before their paid late checkout, indicating a potential disconnect in communication regarding scheduled services. Despite these challenges, the affordability and the overall concept appeal to guests who prefer independence. In cases where assistance is needed, guests can likely reach support via the provided phone numbers: (617) 300-0956 or +1 617-300-0956.

Features: Apartment-Style Basics for Extended Stays

The rooms at The Queen Hotel Queen Village are designed to provide fundamental comforts, described as "clean" and having "the basics." While specific in-room amenities are not exhaustively detailed, Sonder properties typically equip their units with essentials for a self-sufficient stay. This often includes kitchenettes or full kitchens with basic cooking facilities (though guests should confirm specific appliances), allowing for meal preparation. The absence of daily cleaning services means that guests are responsible for managing their own linens and towels, which implies that basic cleaning supplies and laundry facilities (either in-room or communal) might be available, though not explicitly stated. The emphasis on self-service also means amenities often found in traditional hotels like a lobby bar or a full-service restaurant are not typically present. Each room is expected to include a private bathroom. Free Wi-Fi is a standard offering across Sonder properties, ensuring guests can stay connected for work or leisure. The keyless entry system, while sometimes presenting issues, is a core feature aimed at convenience. The hotel's focus on affordability and a home-like environment makes it suitable for longer stays where guests prefer to manage their own space. It's important for potential guests to be aware of the self-service model, including the lack of daily housekeeping and the reliance on digital access, to ensure it aligns with their expectations.

Promotional Information and Local Connectivity

While explicit promotional information for The Queen Hotel Queen Village, Sonder, is not provided in the reviews, Sonder properties often appeal to travelers looking for competitive pricing, especially for extended stays, by foregoing traditional hotel amenities and services in favor of a more independent experience. Guests interested in booking should visit the Sonder website or contact them directly via phone (617) 300-0956 or +1 617-300-0956 to inquire about current rates, potential discounts, and specific package offerings. The hotel's location at 628 S 5th St is a significant advantage when searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in Philadelphia. Queen Village is a highly desirable area, boasting a rich history and a vibrant contemporary scene. Guests will find themselves within "walking distance from a lot of historical sites and restaurants." Key attractions in the vicinity include:

  • South Street: Famous for its eclectic shops, restaurants, and vibrant nightlife.
  • Headhouse Square: A historic marketplace with popular restaurants and a lively atmosphere.
  • Independence Hall and Liberty Bell Center: Iconic landmarks, a slightly longer but still walkable distance.
  • Penn's Landing: Waterfront area offering recreational activities and events.
  • Italian Market: One of the oldest and largest open-air markets in America, offering fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and more.

The neighborhood itself is rich in historical character, with many charming streets to explore. Its abundance of diverse "restaurants" caters to various tastes and budgets. While the hotel is in a "nice neighborhood," the potential for noise from other guests should be considered by light sleepers. The excellent walkability and access to public transportation within the historic district make The Queen Hotel Queen Village, Sonder, a compelling option for those who wish to experience the authentic charm and vibrant culture of Philadelphia without the traditional hotel formalities, and who value affordability and a self-sufficient stay.

Don't come here. It was affordable, but came with many downsides. There's no staff so everything was electronic and didn't work. Every keypad was supposed to allow you to use your phone to access doors, but it never worked for us so we had to type in 4 codes for 4 doors every time we came back. Also because there's no staff, it was the loudest hotel I've ever stayed at. **We didn't get a single full night sleep** the entire time we stayed. People were running down the halls, screaming, partying, and people were banging at doors. There was no cleaning, no new sheets or towels, or anything, you have to do that yourself. We also paid $40 for late checkout, and had a cleaning person come into our room, without knocking, an hour before we were supposed to leave. Absolutely ridiculous. I appreciated the affordability, but this whole staffless/electronic approach was handled so poorly.

This really could have been a 5-star review except for one thing. I’ll get to that. First, I will say that Sonder the Queen is very conveniently located in a nice neighborhood an easy walk, less than a mile, to all the major historical sites in the historic part of Philadelphia. There’s plenty of good food nearby. Our room had 2 comfortable queen beds and was well supplied except for one thing (I’ll get to that). I’m not fond of the business model that has not a single employee on site to help guests when problems arise but if everything goes well, I guess it’s not a big deal. But … The air conditioner in our room never worked over the course of our entire 4-night stay (April 21-April 25, 2025). The room temperature ranged as high as 83 degrees. I reported the problem via chat in the Sonder app upon our arrival. Apparently this is the only way to reach someone about resolving any problems. It was too late in the evening for us to want anyone coming to check it so the agent said they would send someone the next day. After being gone for the entire day we came back to the room expecting it to be cool and comfortable. Not so. I contacted the agent again and was told “Unfortunately, the issue is bigger than anticipated and won’t be addressed during your stay” (even though the hallway just outside the room was cool). I was offered another property but we did not have a car and the other location was not convenient for our planned activities. So, we stayed put. I asked for a $200 refund upon our checkout at the end of the stay. They countered with an offer of a $150 refund and a $50 credit for a future stay. I told them the credit had no value to me since I did not have any future plans that would enable me to use it. I guess the management team did not think that satisfying my reasonable request was important enough to spring for another $50 even though it was their complete failure to provide what was offered at the time I made the booking. It could have been a 5-star experience but it definitely wasn’t.

Loved staying here, great amenities (including roof top and luggage storage) and amazing location. Such a great neighbourhood. Would highly recommend!

My first Sonder experience was great, but this trip is unbelievable. Booked through Airbnb, the details for access and wifi were all incorrect- particularly the access code to get in the building no longer showed in my app and spent 45 minutes trying to get to support to gain access to my belongings. The room with broken HVAC was nearly 80 degrees - more communication problems but maintenance did attempt to fix (go Alex!). Unfortunately he couldn't fix it and scheduled further maintenance. No one communicated that. Again communication via the apps was poor, but luckily you can find find a phone number, where you might at least get a response. Add to that surge pricing, no recourse, minimal support- you're honestly better off paying the difference to make sure service and a functional room is actually available to you.
