Top tier customer service! The people were amazing, the rooms were beautiful, comfortable, well appointed. Slept like a rock with a tiny exception. I don’t know if I was too close to the elevator or if it was due to the light/fan in the bathroom (gorgeous shower btw) but there was a high pitched squeal every so often that woke me up. I sleep through most alarms so this was surprising! The refrigerator motor was also exceptionally loud, but I thought of it as white noise and it helped me sleep. Since you are in the south Union building you are just an elevator ride to all the food, entertainment, and in close proximity to all things downtown. Would only stay here when visiting our badger, though the staff thoughtfully recommended the other Union hotel because it overlooks the lake and is right off the terrace.

The rooms themselves are a testament to thoughtful design and comfort. Guests can expect a beautiful, well-appointed space with modern amenities. The beds, while notably firm, are a point of praise for those who prefer a solid night's sleep. The inclusion of a small fridge, microwave, and coffee machine in the rooms adds a practical touch, making longer stays or a simple morning routine more convenient. The gorgeous walk-in showers, though compact, are a luxurious feature that guests appreciate. While some have noted minor issues, such as a high-pitched squeal or a loud refrigerator motor, many find these small quirks easy to overlook or even adapt to, viewing the motor's hum as a form of white noise that aids in a restful sleep. The stunning views, which can include sights of Camp Randall, add another layer of appeal to the hotel's accommodations. This blend of comfort, functionality, and thoughtful touches makes the Wisconsin Union Hotel a fantastic home base for exploring Madison.
The Wisconsin Union Hotel's location is one of its most significant advantages, placing guests right at the heart of the UW-Madison campus and in close proximity to all things downtown. Situated at 1308 W Dayton St, Madison, WI 53715, USA, the hotel is an ideal starting point for exploring the city. For those unfamiliar with the area, locating the hotel can be a bit tricky initially, as its modern architectural style can be mistaken for a residential hall. However, once you find it, its central position becomes a major benefit. Its corner spot on the street makes it a prominent landmark, even if it takes a moment to recognize it as a hotel. The hotel's proximity to Camp Randall Stadium is a huge plus for sports fans, offering a fantastic view and a short walk to game day excitement. Its location within the Union South building means guests are already where the action is, with dining, entertainment, and social spaces just steps away. The hotel is exceptionally accessible, whether you are arriving by car or on foot. While the immediate check-in parking is a small, 10-minute area on the side of the building, this brief stop is all that's needed to get settled and receive instructions for the main parking complex. From there, an elevator ride seamlessly connects you to your room. This thoughtful design minimizes the hassle of luggage handling and ensures a smooth arrival process. Its position on campus makes it a great hub for walking to various university buildings, downtown attractions, and local eateries. The ease of access to the rest of the Union South building, with its many amenities, makes it a self-contained destination in many ways. Apr 20, 2025 · Jill BThe hotel was very hard to find even though it sticks out like a sore thumb on the corner of the street that it’s on. I drove past it multiple times because it looked like a residential hall to me. The room was booked on my behalf, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It was also confusing to figure out how to get in and check into the hotel. I ended up parking in a very, very small 10 minute parking area on the side of the hotel. I had to go inside check in get parking and then drive around a corner to go into the parking complex. From there, I was able to ride the elevator up to my room. The room was quite nice, it was a little dusty, but other than that, it looked fine. The beds are super firm so if you like that, then you will be happy with it. I was not a big fan of how the bathroom was set up. There was no tub. It was just a very small walk-in shower similar to what you would see in a dorm.It was a bit small and a little hard to maneuver inside of. The room I had came with a small fridge microwave and a coffee machine which I thought was nice. I had a very nice view of camp Randall from my room.
Nov 02, 2024 · CiaraI understand the location is something that can't be controlled. I was there for a wedding the weekend of 7-20-2024. The hotel only has 2 carts!! Absolutely ridiculous!! I've seen this mentioned in reviews from 2019! It certainly isn't a priority for them. When you have multiple bags to haul from the parking garage, carts certainly would help. The rooms are nice size, clean & very quiet. There is no breakfast included. There are several restaurants on 1st floor. The only 2 open on a Saturday were a coffee shop with very sad looking sandwiches in the case & an ice cream place. When you're not from the area thus is frustrating. I asked at the front desk Saturday where I could get lunch. I was directed to all the closed restaurants. In addition we had to pay $17 parking. Again RIDICULOUS!! I will definitely not stay here again when in the area.
Jul 21, 2024 · Deb VSStayed at this hotel for SOAR (UW-Madison's Freshmen Orientation) and stayed 2 nights. The cost to stay here was expensive compared to other hotels and its benefits at this price. No free breakfast provided. You're really paying for convenience as SOAR is in the same building. Check in was confusing, we came in at 8:00pm and the Union South building was dark and no lights. We drove around a couple times and then called the front desk and said the Union looked empty. They said it's "super busy". We walked in, and literally, lights came on, and it was not busy at all. No one at the Check in desk, the building manager had to come help us find someone. Check out: left food in the room in refrigerator to store until Check out at 11am, went to grab the food at 10:30 and the housekeeping was already in the room cleaning but I had not checked out yet. No one knew what happened to the food, turns out they took it and "stored" it for us in the staff lounge incase we came back for it. Overall, 3/5 for convenience only. Over priced. Service was adequate. I'd probably not book here again unless it's something like graduation.
Jul 16, 2024 · carol vangLove staying here! The rooms are always spotless and welcoming with small University of Wisconsin touches throughout. Front staff is always great, making check-in and out a breeze. The location within the UW Union South is hard to beat, especially on game day as Camp Randall is right across the street. Within the union itself, there a a few places to get something to eat or drink as well a great little store for Badger swag. Town is still an easy walk making all that downtown madison has to offer easily accessible.
