I used to live on the Island as a teenager. So to go back and visit with my daughter, I wanted to make sure we had a view. If you want a view, this place Delivers!!! But that's where the experience ends. We had just gotten in from central Florida on the heels of hurricane Milton. Our reservation had to be changed multiple times due to flight cancellations and such for the hurricane. The front desk was less than hospitable, almost laughing at our situation and my concern about the many changes we underwent. There was little kindness or empathy for what we had just been through or that we had no power and minimal phone service, after walking down the street, just to make the changes in reservations to get here. After checking in and feeling laughed at, we got to our room which appeared to be last updated in the late 1960's. It was very clean though. I will say the housekeeper does a fantastic job cleaning that old room. Other travelers may have a better experience than we did. We did enjoy the view and balcony to see the view and housekeeping is unmatched, but the front desk killed the vibe I was hoping for in showing my daughter the Island.

Wonder View Inn Introduce

The Wonder View Inn, located at 50 Eden St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609, USA, is a hotel frequently sought out on platforms like "Hotels Near Of Me" for its commanding hilltop position that provides exceptional views of Frenchman Bay and the surrounding islands. While it offers a convenient base for exploring Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, an objective introduction requires acknowledging both its celebrated features and areas where guest experiences have varied.

Environment: A Hilltop Perch with Panoramic Vistas

The most striking aspect of the Wonder View Inn's environment is its elevated location on Eden Street. This strategic position affords many of its rooms and public areas, particularly the restaurant, truly "panoramic views" of Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay, and the Porcupine Islands. For travelers seeking breathtaking scenery, this is undoubtedly the hotel's strongest draw, offering a visual feast right from their balconies or the property grounds. This vantage point provides a serene backdrop, creating a sense of being above the bustle while still being conveniently close to attractions.

The inn is set amidst beautifully manicured grounds spread across its 14-plus acres, offering guests space to stroll and relax. The property is divided into four distinct buildings: Livingston House, Village View, Upper Courtyard, and Ocean View, each offering different perspectives and room types. This expansive property contributes to a feeling of openness, which can be a welcome contrast to more cramped downtown accommodations.

Its location on Eden Street also places it strategically between downtown Bar Harbor and the entrance to Acadia National Park. Downtown Bar Harbor, with its shops, restaurants, and pier, is typically within a short walk or a few minutes' drive. Acadia National Park's Visitor Center and trailheads are also easily accessible, making it convenient for those eager to explore the park's natural wonders. The overall environment strikes a balance between easy access to town amenities and the expansive natural beauty of the Maine coast.

Services and Features: Core Comforts with Noteworthy Additions

The Wonder View Inn provides a range of services and features designed to ensure a comfortable stay, though some aspects, particularly room modernity, receive mixed feedback.

  • Accommodation: The inn offers 72 individually furnished rooms across its various buildings. Rooms include essential amenities such as individually controlled air conditioning (a key feature for summer comfort, differentiating it from some other local properties), heating, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, coffee makers, hairdryers, irons/ironing boards (on request), refrigerators, and microwaves. Some rooms feature private balconies, capitalizing on the stunning views. Room types vary, from King and Queen beds to larger suites with multiple beds, accommodating different group sizes. While some reviews note rooms as "out of date" or "last updated in the late 1960's," and some mention mold spots on bathroom ceilings, guests often highlight their cleanliness, with housekeeping receiving consistent praise for doing a "fantastic job." Daily housekeeping is provided.

  • Dining: The on-site "Looking Glass Restaurant" is a significant amenity. It is famed for offering "stellar service and amazing views," particularly during breakfast. It was even voted "Best Breakfast with a View" for all of Maine by Yankee Magazine. The restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, with popular breakfast items including Maine Blueberry Pancakes and Lobster Eggs Benedict. A bar/lounge is also available for guests to enjoy beverages. The restaurant often has live piano music, contributing to a pleasant dining atmosphere.

  • Recreational Facilities: The inn features a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, surrounded by lush greenery and offering views of the mountains, providing a refreshing escape during warmer months. There are also garden areas, volleyball courts, and picnic spaces for guests to relax and enjoy the outdoors. While a business center and laundry facilities are available, it's worth noting some amenities like tennis courts and an onsite golf course are not consistently highlighted in recent overviews, suggesting primary focus on pool and grounds. However, one review from Agoda.com does mention a game room with board games, table tennis, or billiards, which could be an additional amenity for guests.

  • Pet-Friendly Policy: A standout feature of the Wonder View Inn is its welcoming stance towards pets, specifically dogs. It allows two dogs of any size in designated rooms for an additional fee of $25 per pet, per night, plus a potential pet deposit of $25. Dogs may not be left unattended in rooms. The inn is thoughtful in providing treats, water bowls, and waste bags upon arrival. Dogs are welcome to be walked on the property's extensive 14-plus acres, and even the free local shuttle is dog-friendly, which is a rare and highly appreciated convenience for pet owners. Pets are not permitted in the pool areas or inside the main dining room, though outdoor patio dining at The Looking Glass Restaurant is often available for guests with dogs, weather permitting.

  • Convenience and Accessibility: The hotel offers free self-parking, including space for RV/bus/lorry parking, which is valuable in Bar Harbor. A free area shuttle service is available, connecting guests to downtown Bar Harbor, reducing the need to drive and find parking in the busy town center. The 24-hour front desk aims to provide assistance around the clock. However, one guest reported a less than hospitable interaction with the front desk regarding reservation changes due to a hurricane, indicating an area for potential improvement in guest relations.

Promotional Information and Target Audience

The Wonder View Inn appeals to a variety of travelers, particularly those who prioritize views, a convenient location, and a pet-friendly environment.

Key promotional messages for the Wonder View Inn would emphasize:

  • "Experience Unrivaled Views of Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay": This is the hotel's undisputed strong point and should be a central theme in all marketing. Guests frequently highlight the "wonderful experience" due to the view and balcony access.

  • "Your Pet-Friendly Gateway to Bar Harbor & Acadia": The comprehensive pet policy, including dog-friendly rooms and shuttle access, is a significant differentiator. The provision of treats, bowls, and poop bags is a much-appreciated detail for pet owners.

  • "Ideally Located for Exploration": Highlighting its central position between downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, with easy access to both on foot or via shuttle, making it "centrally located to everything we wanted to do."

  • "Savor Award-Winning Breakfast with a View": Drawing attention to The Looking Glass Restaurant's reputation for excellent food and scenic dining, often with live piano music adding to the ambiance.

  • "Enjoy Outdoor Amenities": Promoting the seasonal outdoor pool and spacious grounds for relaxation.

The target audience includes couples seeking a scenic retreat, families looking for comfortable lodging with amenities like a pool, and especially pet owners who want to bring their furry companions along to enjoy the Maine coast. Adventure seekers will appreciate the proximity to Acadia, while those seeking a relaxed vacation will enjoy the on-site dining and pool.

While some guest feedback points to dated room decor and occasional inconsistencies in front desk hospitality, the consensus on cleanliness and, most importantly, the breathtaking views and highly accommodating pet policy often outweigh these concerns for many visitors. The "Wonder View Inn" truly delivers on its name when it comes to the visual experience, and its practical amenities combined with a strong pet-friendly stance make it a notable option within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category for travelers to Bar Harbor. It is important for prospective guests to note the potential for older room aesthetics and to confirm any specific needs, such as a modernized bathroom, directly with the hotel when booking.

Overall we had a wonderful experience at the wonder view inn. It was centrally located to everything we wanted to do. Close to downtown bar harbor and close to Acadia it was wonderful. The room we chose was dog friendly which was very nice as we had our 2 dogs with us. They even gave us treats, bowls and poop bags when we arrived. The only not so great thing I have to say about the place is that the rooms are quite a bit out of date. The bathrooms could definitely use a little TLC as the room we were in had a few mold spots on the ceiling. Other than that we had a great time.

We had an amazing stay at this pet-friendly hotel. Room 49 was perfect, with a spacious terrace and stunning sunrise views from the second floor, some thing to keep in mind if you don’t get those Cadillac Mountain sunrise permits! The location is ideal, close to town and convenient for park access with a the park shuttle right pick up/drop off right outside. They have pet goodie bags set up when you arrive in your room and they are clear about where your pet can go on the property. The hotel offers great amenities, including indoor & outdoor pools, a piano bar, and a fantastic restaurant, The Looking Glass, with a great outdoor patio terrace and a fire pit. Maine wild blueberry pancakes and a mimosa in the sun was the perfect start to the day. The staff was attentive and friendly & chill. The business center was comfortable and bright so if you do have to do work, it won’t be miserable! The hotel rates I thought were quite reasonable, especially during high peak season in August. There were no gimmicks or extra fees. Because of the layout, I would recommend that if you arrive at night, depending where your room is located, don’t be shy to ask somebody to escort you there as the this is not a cookie-cutter run-of-the-mill layout. It's like staying at your rich friend's mansion where you can raid the fridge in your cut-offs, sprint barefoot across the lawn, explore the expansive property, then magically summon a butler when you need your cocktail dress pressed for the piano bar. The perfect blend of laid-back Maine charm and upscale comfort!

This place is super close to Acadia and is a quick drive to lots of spots in the national park. The park shuttle also stops near the hotel. The hotel is also pretty close to the downtown area of Bar harbor which has many restaurants. The Wonder View inn and Blue Nose Inn share the same premises and staff. So while driving you may see signs for either of the hotels.

This place was pretty great, and the location was super if you want to walk downtown. Although not a deal-breaker it would be worth noting that the bathroom situation was a little rough. Although very clean and the shower was good, the sink situation was a little difficult to get ready there was almost zero shelf space or side sink space. The first night I leaned over to spit out my toothpaste I hit my forehead on the glass which was the shelving right above the sink. It was a very tight space to get ready for the day or for the night. Other than that the rooms were extremely clean, the bed was comfortable and the view was exceptional.
