We were passing through on our way to Myrtle Beach and stopped here for the night. The front desk service was decent, we even talked them down a few bucks because they raised the rates for Memorial Day weekend. We got to the room and the air conditioner blew out warm air, the bedsheet had a cigarette burn in it, the ceiling was peeling off, and the chair in the room had lots of rips in it. It was a non smoking room but smelled of cigarettes. I've stayed in much worse motels before and I feel the price should reflect the quality. Definitely not worth $122 for a night.

Location and Accessibility

Americas Best Value Inn Canton, NC is conveniently located at 1963 Champion Dr, Canton, NC 28716, USA. This address places it strategically off Interstate 40, approximately 20 miles west of Asheville. For North Carolina residents familiar with regional travel, its proximity to I-40 makes it an easily accessible stop for those passing through or using Canton as a base to explore Western North Carolina.

The motel's location on Champion Drive suggests it is likely situated in a commercial area, which often means easy access to nearby services like gas stations, fast-food restaurants, and other basic necessities that travelers might require. Its position in Canton also places it within a short driving distance of local attractions such as the Pigeon River, Canton Area Historical Museum, and the Colonial Theater. For those looking to venture further, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is about 17 miles away, making it a potential overnight stop before deeper exploration of the park or a convenient base for day trips into the mountains. The accessibility from a major interstate like I-40 is a significant advantage for road travelers, allowing for quick exits and re-entries without much detour, a common preference for many North Carolinians on the move. However, as is typical with motels located off busy roads, guests might occasionally experience some road noise, though this specific aspect was not highlighted in the provided reviews. The strategic placement offers practical convenience for diverse travel plans across our state.

Services Offered

Based on publicly available information and guest reviews, Americas Best Value Inn Canton, NC advertises a range of services and amenities, though guest experiences can vary. Here's a look at what is typically offered and what recent guests have reported:

  • Front Desk Service: The motel generally offers 24-hour front desk service. Guests have noted the service as "decent," with one instance of being able to negotiate room rates. However, there was a report of front desk staff being unhelpful regarding issues like brown water and a refusal to refund money for a dissatisfactory room.
  • Complimentary Breakfast: The motel advertises free continental breakfast. However, a guest reported a severely limited offering with "no coffee, tea, juice, or milk," only "2 individual packages of hostess small muffins," and some cereal in a dispenser. This indicates that the breakfast offering might be very basic or inconsistent.
  • In-Room Amenities: Rooms are generally expected to include air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, safes, TVs with premium channels, refrigerators, and microwaves. Some rooms may also offer balconies, heating, fans, and partially open bathrooms with shower/tub combinations and complimentary toiletries. However, a guest reported an air conditioner blowing "warm air," suggesting issues with climate control.
  • Housekeeping: Daily housekeeping is typically a standard service. However, one review specifically mentioned "absolutely no maid service had to deal with it own trash" and "had to go get our own towels," indicating a potential lapse in this service.
  • Connectivity: Free in-room WiFi is advertised. While generally expected, the quality and reliability of internet connection were not specifically detailed in the provided negative reviews, implying it might be a general offering.
  • Parking: Free self-parking is available on-site, a convenient service for travelers arriving by car.
  • Seasonal Outdoor Pool: The motel advertises a seasonal outdoor pool, typically open from May to September, providing a recreational option during warmer months.
  • Laundry Facilities: Self-serve laundry facilities are listed as an amenity, which can be very useful for longer stays or for travelers needing to refresh their wardrobe.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: The motel is pet-friendly, allowing pets for an extra charge, with specific room restrictions. This is a beneficial service for North Carolinians traveling with their furry companions.
  • Other Services: The motel may also offer coffee/tea in common areas, barbecue grills, picnic areas, tour/ticket assistance, and an elevator.

Features / Highlights

When evaluating Americas Best Value Inn Canton, NC, based on the provided customer feedback, certain aspects emerge as notable features, albeit some with significant caveats. For North Carolina locals considering a stay, these points highlight what you might encounter:

  • Budget-Friendly Price Point: Despite issues, the motel typically targets a lower price range, which can be a "highlight" for travelers on a tight budget. However, guest reviews consistently argue that the "price should reflect the quality" and that charges like $122 or $110 were "definitely not worth" the experience due to the condition of the room. This indicates that while the price might initially seem attractive, the perceived value can be very low.
  • Convenient Location for Travelers: Situated just off I-40, the motel offers a highly accessible stop for those driving through or visiting Western North Carolina. Its proximity to major roadways is a definite advantage for ease of travel.
  • Negotiable Rates (on occasion): One guest mentioned successfully talking the front desk "down a few bucks" due to raised rates for a holiday weekend. While not a guaranteed feature, it suggests some flexibility in pricing may be possible in certain situations.
  • Basic In-Room Amenities (when functional): Rooms are advertised with air conditioning, TV, and an armchair. While these are standard, guests reported issues such as the air conditioner blowing "warm air," indicating functionality problems.
  • Outdoor Spaces: The property offers exterior corridors and likely some outdoor areas, typical of motel setups, which can offer convenience for quick access to rooms.
  • Guest Support (Mixed Experience): While one guest noted a "decent" front desk, another faced a difficult situation with "brown water" from the tap and the front desk being dismissive, stating, "it will clear don't worry." This highlights inconsistency in problem resolution.
  • Seasonal Outdoor Pool and Laundry Facilities: Publicly listed amenities include a seasonal outdoor pool and self-serve laundry, which can be useful features for guests, assuming they are operational and well-maintained.
  • Pet-Friendly: For those traveling with pets, the motel's pet-friendly policy (with an extra charge) is a key feature that caters to a specific segment of travelers.

It is crucial for potential guests to weigh these "highlights" against the significant concerns raised about the overall condition, cleanliness, and value, as detailed in the introduction and services sections.

Promotions or Special Offers

Specific, ongoing promotions or special offers for Americas Best Value Inn Canton, NC are not detailed in the provided customer reviews. The reviews mention a situation where rates were "raised for Memorial Day weekend," and one guest was able to "talk them down a few bucks." Another review noted a "lower price posted than what we were charged," indicating a discrepancy rather than a clear promotional offer.

Generally, budget motels like Americas Best Value Inn often offer seasonal rates, discounts for extended stays, or promotions through their corporate website or third-party booking platforms. Conclusion: Why This Place Is Suitable for Locals

For North Carolina residents planning a trip that involves a stopover or a budget-conscious stay in the Canton area, Americas Best Value Inn Canton, NC presents itself as a potential option, primarily due to its strategic location and competitive pricing. However, based on the frank feedback from recent guests, it is imperative for locals to approach this choice with a clear understanding of what to expect, managing their expectations accordingly.

The most significant advantage for North Carolinians is undoubtedly the motel's accessibility. Situated right off Interstate 40, it offers extreme convenience for those driving across the state or exploring Western North Carolina. For families or individuals on a road trip, the ease of pulling off the highway, securing a room, and getting back on the road quickly can be a decisive factor, especially during late-night travel or when seeking a simple overnight rest stop. This location eliminates the need for extensive detours, saving valuable travel time and fuel, which is a practical consideration for many local travelers.

Furthermore, for travelers who prioritize keeping costs down, the motel's position within the "budget" category of accommodations might initially seem appealing. While guest reviews indicate that the perceived value for the price charged can be a significant issue, for some, the absolute lowest price point might still be the primary driver, particularly if other options are fully booked or considerably more expensive. The ability to potentially negotiate rates, as one guest experienced, hints at a flexibility that might benefit a determined, budget-conscious traveler.

However, it is crucial for locals to acknowledge the widespread concerns raised by past guests. Issues such as the air conditioner blowing warm air, cigarette burns on non-smoking room bedsheets, peeling ceilings, ripped furniture, dingy sheets, and unpleasant smells directly impact comfort and hygiene. The reported "brown water" from taps and dirty showers are serious health and safety concerns that no guest should have to face. The severely limited and misrepresented breakfast offerings, as well as apparent lapses in housekeeping, also significantly detract from the overall experience.

Therefore, while Americas Best Value Inn Canton, NC offers an accessible location for North Carolina travelers on a budget, it is critical for prospective guests to temper their expectations regarding comfort, cleanliness, and the accuracy of advertised amenities. This motel is suitable primarily for locals who are truly seeking the absolute bare minimum for an overnight stay, where location and the lowest possible price outweigh significant concerns about room condition and service quality. It might serve as a last resort when other, more reputable options are unavailable, or for those who are highly resilient to less-than-ideal conditions. For a truly comfortable or pleasant stay, particularly for families, it would be advisable for North Carolinians to explore alternative accommodations in the Canton or surrounding areas, even if it means a slightly higher cost, to ensure a more satisfactory experience.

I would never recommend this motel. Turned on sink water and brown water came out. The shower did the same. The front desk said it will clear don't worry. The chair in the room had big stains all over it. The sheets were dingy. They said they had free breakfast. There was no coffee, tea, juice, or milk. There were only 2 individual packages of hostess small muffins. There was some cereal in a dispenser and that was it. The only positive was that she brought us 2 bottles of water. If it wasn't 11 PM and we had stopped earlier down the road and everything was booked we would have demanded our money back and walked out. I had indicated before we should get our money back and leave and she acted like she would not refund it. They also had a lower price posted than what we were charged. It was $110 for this disgusting room

This place is absolutely filthy. There were multiple issues that I wasn't able to address with staff because after check in, no one was at the front desk. These issues include no fire alarm in the room (removed with wires sticking out and fire damage around where it should have been and other outlets in the room), the slide lock not having any screws to keep it in place, and the couch in the room was extremely filthy and covered in stains. The photos on the website did not reflect how outdated and dirty the rooms were. I also never received email confirmation and had to reach out to the hotel multiple times to confirm my reservation for that night. I tried calling the front desk and going down to talk to someone, but no one was around. The next morning, the lobby was still locked. Had to ring a bell to drop off the keyboard and someone wearing no shoes grabbed it and shut the door before I was able to raise any concerns. I have tried to contact anyone at ABVI&S but have not received a reply. Do not stay here!

This was one of the most disgusting hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. bed bugs in the 1 bed. the chair was so stained I'm not sure what it was stained with🤮 Covered it in towels so I could at least try to sit in it. But the smell was too much!! the front door had been kicked in by the police you could tell. splattered stuff on the walls absolutely disgusting would never recommend anyone ever to stay at this hotel. Threw away the clothes I slept in. 3 star hotel ??please!!! Solid 0 stars 👎👎

-No bathtub plug -missing overflow cover (3 inch diameter hole in tub) -sink incredibly slow to drain (plugged) -only 1 coffee cup in the room for two people -no breakfast...we thought it was included (there's a breakfast area) but the office was locked in the morning with no one around at 8:30am -room had two fridges, which was great! (One had a freezer) -probably really nice to sit outside your room facing the courtyard and pool (in season) -$100 for a weekday in February
