Appalachian Trail Adventures Introduce

For individuals exploring the "Hotels Near Of Me" category and seeking a unique blend of comfortable accommodation and thrilling outdoor activities in the heart of Vermont, Appalachian Trail Adventures (ATA) in Killington, VT, presents a compelling option. Located at 78 Weathervane Dr, Killington, VT 05751, USA, ATA is not a conventional resort hotel in the sense of having numerous rooms and services on its own property. Instead, it operates as an award-winning outdoor guiding outfit that specializes in providing personalized, all-inclusive hiking vacations and guided day adventures, often partnering with local lodges like the North Star Lodge for accommodation. You can contact Appalachian Trail Adventures directly at (802) 347-4343 or via mobile at +1 802-347-4343.

The environment in which Appalachian Trail Adventures operates is the picturesque and rugged landscape of Killington, Vermont, and the surrounding Green Mountain National Forest. This region is a haven for outdoor lovers, characterized by stunning mountain vistas, lush forests, pristine lakes, and a network of renowned hiking trails, including sections of the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail. The focus of ATA is to immerse guests in this natural beauty. While the accommodation itself, such as at the North Star Lodge, would offer comfortable indoor spaces, the primary "environment" of the adventure is the great outdoors of Vermont. Guests will experience varying terrains from leisurely strolls to challenging climbs, exploring waterfalls, historical features, and secret, off-the-map destinations. The reviews highlight the beauty of the surroundings, making activities like hiking and kayaking even more spectacular, especially during the vibrant fall foliage season.

The services offered by Appalachian Trail Adventures are comprehensive and highly personalized, extending far beyond typical hotel amenities. ATA provides:

  • All-Inclusive Hiking Vacations: These packages typically include comfortable accommodations (often at partner lodges like the North Star Lodge), delicious cuisine (breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with picnic lunches provided during adventures), and experienced guides.

  • Guided Day Adventures: These are tailored outdoor excursions that can include guided hikes (on the Appalachian Trail, Long Trail, and other scenic routes), kayaking on lakes or flat-water streams, exploring caves, rock scrambling, and sightseeing tours to local gems.

  • Personalized Itineraries: John, the founder, and his team are known for designing customized days based on guests' desires, skill levels, and even weather conditions. They cater to all ability levels, from families with young children (as young as 6) to seasoned adventurers and solo travelers.

  • Culinary Experience: Meals are a significant part of the all-inclusive packages. Breakfast and lunch are often included, with picnic lunches for adventures. Dinners are frequently arranged at partner restaurants, ensuring variety and quality. They can cater to special dietary restrictions and offer different portion sizes (e.g., weight loss or hiker's portions).

  • Wellness Integration: Some packages or à la carte options may include elements like yoga and massage, allowing for a balanced experience of exertion and indulgence.

  • Transportation: Daily transportation to and from activity locations is typically included in their vacation packages, enhancing convenience for guests.

The service is characterized by the guides' extensive knowledge of the area, their commitment to safety (with clear and informative safety briefs), and their friendly, light-hearted approach, making adventures "great fun."

The features of Appalachian Trail Adventures are distinct from those of a conventional resort hotel, focusing on unique, curated outdoor experiences rather than on-site amenities like pools or spas within a single complex (though they may be available through partner lodges). Key features include:

  • Variety of Adventures: From guided hikes for all skill levels (short, half-day, full-day) to thrilling caving expeditions and guided kayaking, ATA offers diverse ways to explore Vermont's outdoors.

  • Expert Guides: The guides, particularly John, are consistently praised for their enthusiasm, knowledge of trails and the Killington area, and their ability to make everyone feel safe yet challenged. Their friendly approach creates a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere.

  • All-Inclusive Model: For vacation packages, the inclusion of accommodation, meals, activities, and guiding services simplifies planning and ensures a seamless experience.

  • Personalized and Flexible Experiences: ATA is known for customizing adventures to individual or group preferences, ensuring that each trip is unique and memorable. They can combine activities (e.g., hiking with kayaking or caving) to create a full day's adventure.

  • Focus on Exploration: Unlike some "hiking spas" that keep guests primarily on property, ATA actively encourages guests to explore the wider Vermont landscape, visiting local villages, historical sites, covered bridges, and enjoying cheese tasting, brewery tours, and antiquing.

  • Family-Friendly: Reviews highlight their ability to cater to a wide age range, making it suitable for family adventures where everyone from young children to adults can participate safely and enjoyably.

The company's long-standing experience (over 25 years) and consistent positive TripAdvisor reviews are strong indicators of its reliable and high-quality features.

John was fantastic we had our whole family from 6-40 years old climbing through caves. We felt safe, but challenged through the whole experience. John’s dog was super cute too and led the way with his little bell on his collar. Would highly recommend this trip for people that want some adventure. We look forward to more experiences with them in the future. This was my first time to killington and this definitely put the place on the map for us!

John is an excellent adventure guide. He took our family with ages ranging from mid-sixties to a three year old and accommodated everyone’s skill and desire for fun. I highly recommend you call or email him to discuss your goals for your trip, and he will design a plan tailored to you. I cannot recommend him enough.

We decided to take a 4 day vacation on my birthday week. Having experienced and enjoyed kayaking recently, we wanted to take a vacation that included kayaking. We thought of going to a state that we've never visited before and Vermont was one of them. I stumbled across Appalachian Trail Adventures while researching kayaking vacations in Vermont, and we quickly realized that they had everything that we enjoy in one place - hiking, kayaking, yoga, tennis, cooking, massages, shopping and sightseeing. We ended up opting for some hikes, kayaking, yoga classes and a massage. All the food is taken care of, and it was delicious! The way they have tied up with some of the local businesses such as the beautiful Summit Lodge, the Foundry restaurant, is really admirable. Other businesses should really take note. John really knows how to plan our trips exactly to our liking. He and his guides Leslie and Michelle are some of the friendliest and nicest human beings I've ever met. They encourage you to challenge yourself a little more than you thought you could. And if you don't want to, that's fine too. They also took us out to places where we could taste some of Vermont's best cheeses, beer and vodka, and also see some amazing glass blowing, among other things. The icing on the cake was literally the birthday cake they surprised me with on my birthday at the Foundry. We were also lucky to have met a nice group of people gather together to have a good time in the outdoors. I certainly will miss all of them and Vermont and also John's sweetest little beagle Aeolus! If you plan your trip with ATA, you will certainly not be disappointed. If I get a chance to come back again, I most certainly will.
