Nice little place right in between Killington and Pico. Firm mattress on the bed. Breakfast available during peak season, and there's a great breakfast place right next door. There's a huge common area with a large TV, so if you have a group of people you don't all have to cram into one room to hang out. My only complaint is that the walls are pretty thin. Granted, our room was right next to the stairs, so we could hear every ski boot step coming in and out. No real complaints, otherwise. Will probably stay here again next year.
When searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the picturesque ski town of Killington, Vermont, the Mountain Sports Inn emerges as a notable option, particularly for those seeking a practical and well-located base for their mountain adventures. Environment: Perfectly Positioned for Mountain Access
The Mountain Sports Inn boasts an "excellent location," making it a highly desirable choice for skiers and snowboarders. It's strategically positioned "right in between Killington and Pico" ski areas, on the main access road. This prime spot means guests are just "minutes to the Ramshead base area" and within a short drive of the Killington Resort and Pico Mountain lifts. The accessibility to these major attractions is a significant draw, allowing guests to maximize their time on the slopes.
Beyond winter sports, the inn's location also offers access to other outdoor activities. It's a "four season Vermont destination" with golf courses nearby (golf packages available), and is only "one mile from the Appalachian and Long Trails" for hiking enthusiasts. The surrounding area abounds with rivers, streams, and forests, catering to fishing and hunting in season. This makes Mountain Sports Inn a versatile choice for various outdoor pursuits throughout the year.
While the overall environment is geared towards outdoor recreation, the inn itself provides a "nice little place" that is well-suited for a mountain getaway. Free self-parking is available on-site, adding to the convenience for guests traveling by car.
Services and Amenities: Functional Comfort and Shared Spaces
Mountain Sports Inn focuses on providing functional comfort and essential amenities. Rooms are described as "adequate" in size, with a "firm mattress on the bed" noted by one guest. Each room typically includes a private bathroom with a shower and free toiletries, and a telephone. Some rooms also offer a microwave and refrigerator, providing a degree of self-sufficiency. The presence of a window that can be opened is a welcome feature for fresh air.
A key service offered is breakfast, which is available, with a "hot breakfast served December - Mid March and Continental Breakfast served Year Round." Guests consistently praise the breakfast as "good" or "excellent," with options like eggs, pancakes, or French toast taken by order during peak season, alongside self-serve toast, bagels, and other items. This complimentary breakfast is a significant value-add.
One of the standout features is the "huge common area with a large TV." This space is ideal for groups, as it allows guests to "hang out" without having to cram into individual rooms. This communal aspect fosters a friendly atmosphere, where guests can "chat with fellow guests about the ski conditions over breakfast!" The inn also provides free in-room Wi-Fi, which is a crucial amenity for modern travelers.
Additional amenities include a Jacuzzi and sauna, offering a relaxing way to unwind after a day on the mountain. Ski lockers are available for convenient storage of gear. The staff is generally described as "polite enough and helpful," contributing to a pleasant stay.
Features: Value, Rustic Charm, and Areas for Improvement
The Mountain Sports Inn is generally considered a "great accommodation for the price" and offers "lots of value." Its rustic ski lodge feel provides a cozy and authentic Vermont experience. The presence of a restaurant on-site offers a convenient dining option, and there's "a great breakfast place right next door" for additional choices. Concierge services and luggage storage are also available, enhancing guest convenience.
However, guests have noted some areas where the inn could benefit from improvement. A recurring concern is the heating system. One guest experienced a non-functioning heater during extremely cold temperatures (−18∘C), requiring the use of a noisy electric fan as a substitute. While the main heater in the room eventually worked, the bathroom heater remained non-functional, with the same electric fan solution offered. This suggests inconsistencies in the heating system that can impact comfort during colder months.
The age of the rooms is also mentioned, with furniture, especially table lamps, appearing "mismatched, as if gathered from here and there." While sheets generally look clean, some guests have noticed "unpleasant stains on the table lamps and the dirt on the windows," indicating a need for more meticulous cleaning in certain areas. Another common observation is that the "walls are pretty thin," leading to noise transfer, particularly from high-traffic areas like stairs where "every ski boot step coming in and out" can be heard.

Mar 31, 2025 · bill nagleThe location of the hotel is great, and the room size is adequate. The breakfast is good. However, there are some negative aspects. The heating system wasn't working properly. On the first night, we had to try to sleep with a noisy electric fan. Given that the outside temperature was -18°C, it's unacceptable for the heating in the hotel room to not be working properly. The hotel management, who thinks that the electric fan solves the heating issue, doesn't seem to care about the noise from the fan. So, you'll either have to sleep through it or freeze. On the second night of our stay at the hotel, the main heater in the room had started working, but the one in the bathroom was still not functioning. As you might have guessed, the solution offered by the management was... using an electric fan. Hotel staff was polite enough and helpful, though. The rooms are quite old. The furniture, especially table lamps in the room mismatched, as if gathered from here and there. Having a window in the room that you can open was nice. The sheets looked clean, but the unpleasant stains on the table lamps and the dirt on the windows were noticeable. I chose this hotel based on reviews comparing it to the three others in the area, but honestly, I will try the other ones next time.
