The lobby is very nice and super close to Syracuse University which is why we stayed there. But the keys to our room didn’t work. Then after we had to get the key cards fixed we discovered one bed wasn’t even made and looked slept in! We were given a second room and the keys worked for one day but needed to be reset again the following day. Also one of faucets didn’t work so we only had hot water at the sink, not cold. And no fridge in the room. Pretty shabby. The staff was nice but the management needs to get the rooms up to snuff for what they are charging.
As a prominent establishment within the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform category, the Collegian Hotel & Suites, Trademark Collection by Wyndham, offers a distinct lodging experience for those seeking accommodations in Syracuse, NY. Situated at 1060 E Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13210, USA, this hotel prides itself on its prime location, particularly its close proximity to Syracuse University, making it an especially appealing choice for prospective students, visiting families, and academics alike.
The environment of the Collegian Hotel & Suites is designed to evoke a unique ambiance, distinguishing it from more conventional hotel offerings. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a lobby that is often described as very nice, suggesting a welcoming initial impression. The hotel's theme and decor aim to align with its "Collegian" identity, potentially incorporating elements that resonate with a collegiate spirit or academic atmosphere. Its location on E Genesee Street places it in a dynamic part of Syracuse, offering convenient access to not only the university campus but also nearby dining establishments, shops, and other local amenities. This immediate access to the university is a significant environmental advantage, allowing guests to easily navigate campus events, tours, or visit loved ones. While the public areas like the lobby may present well, guest experiences sometimes reveal inconsistencies within the individual room environments. Reports have mentioned issues such as unmade beds upon arrival, non-functional faucets (e.g., only hot water available), and a lack of in-room amenities like refrigerators. These operational challenges can detract from the overall perceived quality of the room environment, despite the hotel's strong locational appeal.
The services at Collegian Hotel & Suites, Trademark Collection by Wyndham, are intended to provide a comfortable stay for guests. The front desk staff, in many instances, is described as nice and pleasant to interact with, demonstrating a willingness to assist guests. For instance, staff members have been helpful in re-keying access cards when issues arise. However, the efficacy and consistency of service delivery appear to be areas where the hotel faces challenges. Frequent issues with room keys needing repeated resets indicate a recurring technical problem that can be inconvenient for guests. Furthermore, reports highlight significant concerns regarding reservation management and customer service, particularly in instances of overbooking. Guests have described receiving last-minute cancellation notifications, even while en route to the hotel, and subsequently facing difficulties in securing alternative accommodations or receiving timely and appropriate compensation. The process of addressing such significant service failures, including attempts to contact management for restitution, has been reported as unresponsiveness, leading to guest frustration. While a small credit to a restaurant might be offered as a form of compensation, the overall handling of these critical service breakdowns has left some guests with a negative impression, impacting their willingness to return.
Several features define the Collegian Hotel & Suites, Trademark Collection by Wyndham. Its most prominent feature is its strategic location, being "super close to Syracuse University." This makes it an almost unparalleled choice for anyone whose visit is centered around the university campus. As part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham, the hotel aims to offer a unique, independent hotel experience while still benefiting from the Wyndham brand's loyalty program and booking network. The hotel's design, particularly the lobby, aims for an aesthetically pleasing and welcoming impression. However, the functionality and consistency of in-room features have been a point of concern for some guests. Issues like malfunctioning key card systems, problems with basic bathroom fixtures (e.g., cold water not working), and the absence of expected amenities such as refrigerators in rooms have been noted. These operational shortcomings can significantly impact guest comfort and satisfaction, especially given the prices charged. While the staff attempts to be helpful, the underlying issues with room readiness and functionality suggest a need for more robust management oversight and maintenance protocols to ensure the rooms are consistently "up to snuff" for what guests are paying. The hotel aims to offer a distinctive stay, but the customer reviews suggest that the execution of some fundamental hotel services and maintenance requires improvement.
In terms of promotional information, the Collegian Hotel & Suites, Trademark Collection by Wyndham, undoubtedly leverages its affiliation with Wyndham and its prime location near Syracuse University as key selling points. Prospective guests searching within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category would find its proximity to the university highly attractive. The "Trademark Collection" branding suggests a unique and possibly upscale experience, which would be highlighted in marketing materials. The hotel likely offers special rates for university-related visits, alumni events, or during peak seasons for campus activities. Guests can typically find promotional offers directly through the Wyndham website or by contacting the hotel at (315) 476-4212 or +1 315-476-4212. However, while the hotel's location and brand association are strong promotional tools, the customer feedback indicates that promotional promises should be balanced with an understanding of potential operational inconsistencies. The hotel needs to ensure that the actual guest experience consistently meets the expectations set by its branding and location, particularly regarding room readiness, key card functionality, and effective resolution of service issues. For travelers prioritizing location above all else for their Syracuse University visit, this hotel remains a consideration, but with the caveat to manage expectations regarding certain aspects of room functionality and customer service.

Apr 16, 2025 · Katy CoxI booked and paid for the room a month before my stay. I checked in online the day before I was to arrive with my wife, noting that I would arrive close to midnight. The next day we were driving up to Syracuse from New York City, a 5-hour drive through pouring rain. When I was a half hour from Syracuse, I received a call from the hotel. I was told that they had overbooked the hotel, they had no rooms available, and they were canceling my reservation. I said I was driving and I was a half hour away. What was I supposed to do? I was told that they couldn't help find another room and they couldn't make a room available for me. It was midnight and I was frantically trying to find a place for the night. I managed to find something some distance from the city, but I hadn't received any confirmation of the cancellation through email or through notification in booking.com. I was worried that if I didn't show up and get some sort of receipt then they would consider me a no-show and wouldn't refund my payment. So I continued on to the hotel anyway. When I arrived I was told they had managed to find a room for me, but it was "hot". I said I'd take it anyway. I said that after scaring me like that by telling me that they were canceling my reservation that I deserved restitution. I was told that there was nothing they could do and I would have to talk to the manager in the morning. The room was in fact too warm, but turning off the heat resolve the issue. The next morning I talked to the person at the front desk. She said there was nothing she could do for me regarding any compensation. I tried to find the manager. I phoned and left a message. He never responded. Eventually, we were given a $20 credit the restaurant. With such awful service and a complete lack of owning up to their mistakes, I won't stay at this hotel ever again.
May 08, 2025 · Harvey SteinMaybe you can say 2 stars motel-apartment, the room was awful, too humid and smells, I called 3 times in 2 days and asked for the maintenance guy to come over and take a look at the AC. No one showed up. At check out I was told they fixed the AC but it didn't go lower than 77 degrees. The front desk personnel were nice and polite.
May 13, 2025 · Mehdi HosseinpourThis was my second stay at the Collegian due to its proximity to my Alma Mater, Syracuse University. My reason for this review is to thank one of the front desk, staff members, DAVID. He was very professional and accommodating during my first stay back in September 2024 and I remembered him when I entered the lobby on my second visit. Again, he was quite professional during my five day stay on this trip and he went out of his way to be accommodating during my stay, especially arranging for the hotel shuttle for my many appointments on-campus and downtown. The three members of the shuttle staff were also very warm, friendly, and accommodating, and I want to give them a big “thumbs up” also! Regarding the rooms, it is an older hotel, but the rooms are well kept and clean!
Mar 10, 2025 · Jacqueline GrantI have had family members in a hospital nearby and chose this hotel twice while they have been at the hospital. Both times I have stayed they have double charged my credit card. It takes me weeks to fight with someone to get my money back. This is a nice, conveniently located hotel but because of the credit card charges I will not stay there again. I can find another centrally located one likely for a cheaper price.
