Disappointing Stay – Poor Service and Quality Issues This was by far one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a Marriott. From start to finish, the stay was disappointing in both service and quality. Service: Check-in was lackluster. The front desk staff handed us our keys with no explanation about our stay. This was a problem because we had prepaid for a package that included breakfast and parking. Later, when we asked another front desk agent, they couldn’t find any record of our breakfast package. Thankfully, they eventually corrected it—but it should never have been missed to begin with. For a Marriott property to not include breakfast is already odd, and to fumble a prepaid package makes it worse. Room Quality: The room was clean but felt like a basic 3-star hotel. Things went downhill when I tried to take a shower and discovered there was no hot water—at 10pm. I had to pack everything up and move rooms. The new room smelled strongly of chemicals, as if trying to mask cigarette smoke. We requested yet another room, which thankfully had no odor and had hot water, but the air conditioning didn’t work. Completely unacceptable. Frustrated, I asked to go back to the first room. The next morning, there was still no hot water. Unbelievable. Additional Amenities: I needed to do laundry and asked if they sold detergent—none in stock. I then asked to break a $5 bill for quarters, but they informed me they were a cashless operation. When I asked what other guests were expected to do, I was told to go to a corner store—at night, in a not-so-safe neighborhood. Completely unhelpful. Breakfast: Breakfast was cook-to-order, not buffet. I ordered a breakfast burrito, which was covered by the voucher—but it was a letdown. There was barely any bacon, the potatoes were cold, and I had to ask them to reheat it. Definitely not worth it. Overall: If this is what Marriott is offering now, I’ll steer clear going forward. This felt more like a glorified motel than a reputable hotel chain. The night manager did try to accommodate us and eventually comped part of our stay, which I appreciated. But unfortunately, that’s the only bright spot in an otherwise terrible experience.
Welcome to Courtyard Atlantic City Beach Block, a Marriott property conveniently located at 1212 Pacific Ave, Atlantic City, NJ 08401, USA. This hotel aims to provide a modern and comfortable experience for guests visiting Atlantic City, with its prime location just one block from the famous Boardwalk and beach. You can contact the hotel directly at (609) 345-7070 or via mobile at +1 609-345-7070.
As a key option within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, Courtyard Atlantic City Beach Block is designed to cater to both leisure and business travelers seeking proximity to Atlantic City's vibrant attractions, including casinos, entertainment venues, and the ocean. Its position offers easy access to the city's main draws.
The Courtyard Atlantic City Beach Block presents a modern ambiance, having undergone a $2.4 million renovation in 2022, which included updates to the lobby, fitness center, meeting spaces, guestrooms, bathrooms, and corridors. This investment means guests should expect contemporary decor, new flooring, wallcoverings, lighting, seating, and artwork throughout the property.
Guest feedback indicates that the rooms themselves are generally "clean," which is a positive aspect for many travelers. The hotel maintains a smoke-free policy throughout the property, contributing to a fresh internal environment. Some rooms offer a "view of the ocean," which is a significant bonus for a beach block property. However, despite the internal updates, some guests have expressed reservations about the immediate external area, noting that "Not fond of the area, it seems as if you took a wrong turn," suggesting the neighborhood might not always feel entirely safe or aesthetically pleasing at night, requiring guests to be mindful of their surroundings. The overall ambiance inside the hotel is intended to be inviting and functional, consistent with the Courtyard brand's focus on modern convenience.
The services at Courtyard Atlantic City Beach Block, while intended to be comprehensive, have received mixed reviews, particularly concerning consistency and communication. The front desk staff's service during check-in was described as "lackluster," with no explanation of a prepaid package that included breakfast and parking. This required guests to follow up multiple times to resolve issues, indicating a breakdown in initial communication and record-keeping. While a night manager eventually "tried to accommodate us and eventually comped part of our stay," this was seen as a recovery from an "otherwise terrible experience."
For dining, the hotel features The Bistro, which offers "cook-to-order" breakfast, not a buffet. While some guests found the breakfast "great" and "worth the price," others, despite having it covered by a voucher, found it a "letdown" with issues like "barely any bacon" and "cold potatoes," requiring reheating. It's important to note that breakfast is typically not complimentary with the standard room rate and comes with a surcharge (ranging from USD 12.99 to 25.99 for adults and USD 6.99 to 15.99 for children). The Bistro also serves lunch and quick bites, and a bar/lounge area for drinks.
In terms of practical amenities, guests encountered issues with services like purchasing laundry detergent and obtaining change for a cashless operation. The hotel's cashless policy meant guests needing quarters for laundry were advised to go to a "corner store—at night, in a not-so-safe neighborhood," which was deemed "completely unhelpful." This points to a lack of foresight in providing essential guest conveniences.
Other standard services include complimentary Wi-Fi in all rooms and public areas, a 24-hour fitness center (though some feedback states it's the first Courtyard without a pool or hot tub, which may vary by source, as others list it as having a fitness center), and daily housekeeping. However, room readiness has also been an issue, with guests arriving to rooms not ready due to air conditioning malfunctions. While a manager in one instance was "amazing" in making the best of a difficult situation with a room change, these instances highlight service inconsistencies. The hotel also offers a 24-hour front desk, dry cleaning/laundry services, a business center, meeting rooms, and an area shuttle (for a surcharge).
The Courtyard Atlantic City Beach Block features 206 renovated rooms, designed to provide a comfortable and functional stay. Rooms come with premium bedding, pillow-top beds, and down duvets. Guest feedback confirms that the "room was cleaner than the majority of hotels we visited that are priced higher," despite one specific mention of "stained pillows," which guests noted they would address by traveling with their own. Rooms are equipped with "large" flat-panel LCD high-definition TVs with streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube, offering ample entertainment.
In-room amenities typically include a refrigerator, coffee/tea maker, work desk with ergonomic chair, in-room safe, iron/ironing board, and climate-controlled air conditioning. Bathrooms feature granite countertops, curved shower rods, and complimentary toiletries. While the showers are generally nice, a significant issue reported by guests was the consistent lack of hot water, requiring multiple room changes and causing considerable frustration. Air conditioning malfunctions were also noted as a problem.
Property-wide amenities include The Bistro for dining and drinks, a 24-hour fitness center, and meeting/event spaces (1,021 sq ft of meeting space). The hotel is located on a beach block, offering "loved the view of the ocean" from some rooms. It provides self-parking (with a surcharge, approximately USD 18 per night), but it's a cashless operation, which impacts related services like breaking bills for laundry. The hotel is also wheelchair-accessible, with features like accessible rooms, routes, and public areas.
As a Marriott brand, Courtyard Atlantic City Beach Block participates in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, allowing guests to earn and redeem points. Guests should check for specific packages that might include breakfast or parking, as these are not standard free inclusions. Direct booking through Marriott's website or major travel platforms may offer competitive rates.
However, based on customer reviews, prospective guests must be fully aware of several critical concerns. The hotel, despite recent renovations, appears to struggle with operational consistency, particularly in areas like hot water availability and air conditioning functionality. The initial check-in experience and handling of prepaid packages, as well as the cashless policy impacting basic guest needs like laundry, point to significant service lapses. The suggestion to go to a "corner store—at night, in a not-so-safe neighborhood" for change is a serious safety and convenience concern.
While room cleanliness is generally praised, the overall "Disappointing Stay" and feeling "more like a glorified motel than a reputable hotel chain" from one guest are strong indicators of a problematic experience for a Marriott property. The positive notes often highlight the responsiveness of a particular manager in rectifying issues rather than a seamless initial experience.
In conclusion, Courtyard Atlantic City Beach Block offers a modern, recently renovated environment and a prime beach block location that provides ocean views. Its main strength lies in its physically clean rooms and a staff member or two who can be exceptionally helpful in problem resolution. However, guests considering this hotel in the "Hotels Near Of Me" category should be prepared for potential challenges related to consistent hot water access, air conditioning, and a somewhat inflexible cashless policy that impacts simple conveniences like laundry. The inconsistency in service, particularly at check-in, and the concerns about the immediate neighborhood suggest that while the hotel has good bones, its execution of service can be highly variable, leading to a potentially frustrating experience despite its advantageous location.

May 03, 2025 · Paul CWe stayed here for one night over the weekend, for a basketball tournament and the room was cleaner than the majority of hotels we visited that are prices higher. I took one star off because the pillows had stains. Thankfully, we travel with our own. Not fond of the area, it seems as if you took a wrong turn. Loved the view of the ocean. When we arrived, our room was not ready as the air conditioner in several rooms were not operating. We were put in a room is a king versus double beds. No other hotels were available, so we made it work. The manager (I did not get her name) was amazing. She made the best of the situation for us and handled it in ways we did not expect and she deserves so much credit for her leadership. The breakfast was great. The sandwiches were worth the price and much better than we expected.
May 05, 2025 · Eilena Mercier-EhmannGreat location as it's a block from the boardwalk. Bed was comfy and room was neat but room service needs to thoroughly check to ensure adequate supplies. I needed soap and facial tissue. Amber at the front desk was helpful. Elevator was super slow 😔. I had an upper room (15th fl) and I was not told I must use my key card to access the upper floors, so I road up and down the elevator twice before I found a worker in the hallway who told me I must use my key card. NO free breakfast! Save yourself the disappointment and eat at Perry's Cafe up the street. Had a great breakfast of eggs, bacon, home fries and toast for $10!!
Apr 15, 2025 · Wendy Patterson-WattsWe had a great stay at the Courtyard Marriott in Atlantic City! The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the hotel overall was spotless. We really appreciated the safety protocols in place to ensure only guests had access…this gave us peace of mind throughout our stay. One major plus was how easy and quick it was to get our car in and out of the back parking lot, which made coming and going a breeze. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a clean, secure, and convenient stay in Atlantic City.
Apr 17, 2025 · Gloria Canales McCabeMy family came for a night from Ohio. The desk clerk was very friendly and treated us extremely well. The hotel was very secure and clean, with lots of space. We had a wonderful time and would stay there again with no hesitation. The price was affordable and we got lots of perks.
