BED BUGS! Our family had been coming for years and we loved our time but the last 2 years bed bugs have been an issue in multiple bedrooms. Many family members have come home covered in bug bites. Very unfortunate. Probably won’t be back
For individuals and groups searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania area, particularly those seeking a secluded setting for family gatherings or extended stays, Crystal Springs Retreat, located at 166 Mossy Oak Ln, Mifflinburg, PA 17844, USA, might appear as an option. However, an objective and comprehensive introduction necessitates a direct and frank discussion of both its inherent appeal and severe issues highlighted by recent customer feedback. This detailed overview will cover the presumed environment, general services and features typical for such a retreat, and critically, the significant concerns that overshadow its potential promotional appeal.
The environment of Crystal Springs Retreat, situated on Mossy Oak Lane in Mifflinburg, PA, suggests a location designed for a peaceful, secluded getaway. The name "Retreat" itself implies a natural, perhaps rustic, setting, likely away from the hustle and bustle of urban areas. Mifflinburg is a borough in Union County, known for its rural character and proximity to natural landscapes, including forests, creeks, and state parks. Such a location would typically appeal to those seeking outdoor recreation, tranquility, or a private space for family reunions and group gatherings. The address "166 Mossy Oak Ln" further supports the idea of a tucked-away property, possibly amidst trees or with access to natural features, providing a serene backdrop for relaxation and activities. Historically, properties in such environments are chosen for their ability to offer a quiet escape, fresh air, and opportunities for outdoor enjoyment like hiking, wildlife viewing, or simply unwinding in nature. The large size implied by its suitability for "family" gatherings over "years" suggests a property with ample space, perhaps multiple bedrooms or communal areas to accommodate a significant number of people. This type of environment is usually the primary draw for guests seeking a break from routine and a reconnection with nature.
In terms of services and features, while specific details are not provided beyond customer reviews, a "retreat" catering to families and groups for "years" would typically offer comprehensive amenities. These might include multiple bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate large numbers of people, a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering, and comfortable common areas such as living rooms or dining spaces. Outdoor features like a fire pit, barbecue grill, or even direct access to natural features like a stream or hiking trails are common for such properties, enhancing the retreat experience. The implied long-term patronage by families suggests that, historically, the property provided a consistent and positive experience, fulfilling needs for spaciousness, amenities for group living, and a comfortable base for their visits. The very fact that families "loved our time" there for "years" indicates that the core features and the environment previously met high expectations for a vacation rental. While not explicitly mentioned, services like linen provision, basic cleaning supplies, and perhaps pre-arrival information or a guest handbook would be standard for a self-catering retreat of this nature. The historical appeal suggests that services related to maintaining a comfortable, functional, and private group living space were in place.
However, the most critical and unavoidable aspect of Crystal Springs Retreat, as conveyed by recent customer reviews, pertains to severe issues that directly impact its features and service quality. Multiple, consistent reviews explicitly state: "BED BUGS!" and "Bed bug nightmare." These are not isolated incidents but refer to the problem occurring "the last 2 years in multiple bedrooms," affecting "Many family members." Guests describe coming home "covered in bug bites" and even directly observing a "bed bug crawling over one of the mattresses in broad daylight." This indicates a significant and recurring infestation, which is a severe health and comfort concern for any accommodation. The impact on guests is profound, leading to statements like "Very unfortunate. Probably won’t be back" and "I will not be back." These reviews overshadow any presumed positive features or historical appeal. The presence of such a widespread and persistent pest issue directly compromises the fundamental expectation of cleanliness, hygiene, and comfort in any lodging, regardless of its type or price point. The fact that guests "let my family know so they could communicate it back to the owners" and yet the problem persisted into the subsequent year suggests a potential failure in addressing the issue effectively, which is a major red flag regarding property management and guest welfare.
The promotional information for Crystal Springs Retreat, as suggested by its name, would ideally focus on its serene environment, its suitability for family gatherings, and its appeal as a quiet escape. Historically, its long-standing patronage by families for "years" would have served as a powerful form of word-of-mouth promotion, highlighting its reliability and enjoyable atmosphere. The phone numbers (570) 541-9225 and mobile +1 570-541-9225 would be the primary channels for inquiries and bookings. However, any promotional claims or historical positive reputation are severely undermined by the recent, explicit, and repeated negative reviews concerning bed bug infestations. For local users searching "Hotels Near Of Me" with the intention of booking Crystal Springs Retreat, these reviews are paramount. They essentially negate any positive promotional message by directly impacting the most basic and critical expectation of a comfortable and hygienic stay. While properties might historically offer appealing features for group gatherings and a natural setting, the current reported conditions regarding bed bugs must be the primary consideration for any prospective guest. An objective introduction cannot omit this crucial information, as it fundamentally alters the value proposition and poses a significant risk to guests' health and well-being. Therefore, any decision to book this retreat would need to weigh the potential appeal of its location and historical purpose against the very serious and consistently reported issues of bed bugs.

Mar 16, 2025 · Shannon BarnsBed bug nightmare. Our family has been coming here since I was a little kid, and we’ve loved it. But last year I noticed I had some bed bug bites after our visit. I let my family know so they could communicate it back to the owners. I’m unsure if that happened or not, but during my stay this year, the infestation was so bad I saw a bed bug crawling over one of the mattresses in broad daylight. I hadn’t seen any when I had done a quick inspection Friday night, but this is the state of my body after just one night. I will not be back.

Mar 16, 2025 · Mercedes ThomasWe've been coming here as a family for over 20 years and always have fun! The cabins are usually fairly clean but definitely could use a little better care. (No air conditioning, refrigerator issues, plumbing issues, etc.) This year, after we already had booked and paid, they tried to double the price a week before our stay! It was a bit of a hassle to get that figured out as we were NOT paying more after already paying and getting confirmation! We have a lot of memories here and hope things are getting upgraded since the price is doubled!

Apr 30, 2025 · Sherwood JohnstoneI stayed in cabin 1 with a young adult church group, and I thought the facility was very nice. It was equipped with a nice kitchen with 2 sinks, a large, comfortable meeting room, and a large dining room full of picnic tables. The bedrooms were simple, but suited for our purposes. There were also some game tables downstairs.
