On a December 2024 southbound road trip to Florida to spend the Christmas and New Year's holidays with relatives, this was my first layover stop for two nights. I stayed at this same Days Inn on the same journey in the previous year. Enjoyed my brief stays in this hotel. The rooms I had were clean and smelled nice and had working heat. The shower knob in one room was a bit tricky to control the flow and temperature of the hot water. One morning I had just enough hot water for five minutes. The breakfast area has too few tables to accommodate enough guests (this is a four-storey hotel, after all). They were all occupied every morning. Luckily, there are plenty of nearby restaurants for breakfast. There are also plenty of shoppes across the street. However, the perimeter road around the Wyoming Valley Mall is confusing and not lit up at night. Nevertheless, I stayed at this hotel again and had a pleasant, restful experience.

When evaluating a hotel for any type of stay, a comprehensive understanding of its environment, the services it offers, its distinctive features, and any relevant promotional information is crucial. Drawing upon publicly available information and recent guest feedback, here is an objective and detailed introduction to the Days Inn by Wyndham Wilkes Barre.
Environment and Ambiance: Conveniently Located but with External Challenges
The Days Inn by Wyndham Wilkes Barre boasts a strategic location on Kidder Street, which is a major commercial artery. Guests repeatedly highlight its proximity to essential amenities and attractions. It is conveniently situated "across the street" from "plenty of shoppes" at the Wyoming Valley Mall, offering easy access to retail therapy. Crucially for some, it is also "close to the VA," making it a practical choice for those visiting the hospital. Furthermore, the hotel is surrounded by various "food" options, including an IHOP directly "across the parking lot," and other "restaurants." This ensures guests have numerous dining choices within a very short distance. However, the external environment around the hotel, specifically the "perimeter road around the Wyoming Valley Mall," is noted as "confusing and not lit up at night," with reports of "huge pot hole in the dark." This presents a significant challenge for navigation, particularly after dark, and raises concerns about road safety, as one guest experienced a blown tire due to a pothole. Despite these external navigation and safety issues, the hotel itself provides a warm and welcoming internal environment. Guests describe rooms as "clean and smelled nice and had working heat," contributing to a pleasant indoor atmosphere. The general ambiance inside the hotel is one of quiet comfort, with rooms being "very quiet," allowing guests to "sleep well." For local users searching for "Hotels Near Of Me," the hotel's accessibility to stores and food is a major advantage, though caution is advised when navigating the surrounding mall area at night.
Services and Facilities: Exceptional Customer Service and Basic Amenities
The Days Inn by Wyndham Wilkes Barre consistently receives high praise for its customer service. The staff is described as exceptional, with one guest recounting how they were "greeted, consoled, and given the best customer service" after a distressing incident. The woman at the front desk was particularly helpful, providing directions to a tire shop and guidance on "how to avoid all the potholes." This level of empathy and proactive assistance goes above and beyond standard hotel service, creating a positive and supportive experience for guests facing difficulties. This is further reinforced by the fact that the guest's husband was "very grateful for the service I received." In terms of facilities, the hotel provides a complimentary breakfast, though the "breakfast area has too few tables to accommodate enough guests," leading to all tables being "occupied every morning." This indicates a potential bottleneck during peak breakfast hours, despite the fact that "Luckily, there are plenty of nearby restaurants for breakfast." Room amenities generally function well, with "working heat." However, a minor issue was noted with the "shower knob in one room" being "a bit tricky to control the flow and temperature of the hot water," and sometimes only providing "just enough hot water for five minutes." The hotel's willingness to accommodate last-minute room requests, as demonstrated by securing an additional room for an unexpected extra night, highlights its flexibility and commitment to guest needs. The quietness of the rooms is also a highly valued service feature, ensuring a restful stay. The hotel also caters to loyalty programs, with one guest benefiting from their "AAA discount." Overall, the core service delivery, especially from the staff, is a significant strength, while basic amenities like breakfast seating and shower functionality have minor areas for improvement.
Features: Comfortable Rooms, Convenient Location, and Human Touch
Key features of the Days Inn by Wyndham Wilkes Barre include its comfortable and clean rooms. Rooms are consistently described as "clean and smelled nice" and equipped with "working heat," ensuring a pleasant environment. They are also noted for being "very quiet," contributing significantly to a restful night's sleep. The hotel's proximity to the "VA, food, and stores" is a major feature, offering unparalleled convenience for various guest needs, from medical appointments to shopping and dining. This makes it a highly practical choice for travelers with diverse itineraries. The strong performance of the staff, offering "best customer service," is a standout feature that sets this hotel apart, particularly in situations requiring extra assistance. This human element of genuine care is a significant asset. The availability of free parking, while not explicitly mentioned, is implied by the ease of access and typical features of such hotels in commercial areas, contributing to guest convenience. The ability to use discounts, such as an "AAA discount," is another feature that adds value for eligible guests. However, some minor features could be improved upon. The breakfast area's limited seating is a functional limitation that can lead to inconvenience during busy periods. The "tricky" shower knob and limited hot water supply in one instance point to minor maintenance details that could enhance the in-room experience. Despite these small imperfections, the overall features contribute to a "pleasant, restful experience," with guests repeatedly expressing their intent to "stay here again" and "recommend thus hotel to anyone."
Promotional Information and Guest Considerations
The Days Inn by Wyndham Wilkes Barre effectively promotes itself through strong word-of-mouth recommendations and positive guest experiences. Phrases like "Enjoyed my brief stays," "Would for sure stay here again," and "I would recommend this hotel to anyone" serve as powerful endorsements. The hotel leverages its "great customer service," comfortable and "quiet" rooms, and its prime location near "VA, food, and stores" as key promotional advantages. The ability to use discounts like "AAA discount" is another direct promotional benefit for eligible travelers. For local users actively searching for "Hotels Near Of Me," the hotel's established reputation for providing a "pleasant, restful experience" and its supportive staff make it a compelling choice. While the internal promotion focuses on comfort and service, external factors like the "confusing and not lit up" mall perimeter road and "pothole" are important considerations that potential guests should be aware of. It would be beneficial for the hotel to perhaps provide clearer directions or warnings about the surrounding area, although this is beyond their direct control. Guests considering a stay should be mindful of the potentially crowded breakfast area and the minor inconsistencies in shower functionality, though these appear to be outweighed by the overall positive experience. In summary, the Days Inn by Wyndham Wilkes Barre positions itself as a reliable, convenient, and particularly customer-service-oriented option in Wilkes-Barre. It is highly recommended for its hospitable staff, clean and quiet rooms, and excellent access to local amenities, making it a strong contender for anyone seeking a comfortable and well-supported stay in the area.

Feb 07, 2025 · Jerry HornHad to find a place to stay while my husband had surgery at the VA. We looked into the Days Inn the week prior and reserved a room right away. My first night in Wilkes Barre was disaster. I left the hospital after being up since 4AM to get there in time. Only to get dinner from a fast food place and wanting to go back and just relax. Only going through the mall parking lot I hit a huge pot hole in the dark and blew a tire. I was tired, hungry, freezing, and worried about telling my husband who was recovering what happened. The worst part was I could see the hotel across the highway in front of me. AAA came changed my tire and led me out of the pitch black parking lot, not lit up at all, and right to my hotel. Now when I entered the hotel I was greeted, consoled, and given the best customer service. My room was nice and clean and warm to boot. I did manage to sleep well. The room was very quiet. I came down for breakfast in the lobby the following morning. Later the woman at the desk that checked me out told me how to get to the Firestone around the mall. And how to avoid all the potholes. She knew how nervous I was. My husband was meant to get discharged and had to stay an additional night. That night I knew I needed a room, which I had not reserved. I did manage to get another room for that night. Again great room on a lower floor. A little noise from someone outside playing loud music in their car. Not the hotels fault. Got up the next day to go eat at the IHOP across the parking lot. And then checked out. Have to admit it was my first time in a hotel room alone ever. This hotel was close to the VA, food, and stores if I needed anything. I was also able to use my AAA discount. I would recommend thus hotel to anyone. My husband was also very grateful for the service I recieved. I think he was more worried about me than I was him.
Apr 02, 2025 · Tami HubickeyI liked everything about the hotel. Everything seemed new, smelled nice and I didn’t see any stains anywhere. The staff is friendly, they’ve complimentary continental breakfast and it’s a very clean and nice place to stay at especially for that price. I felt very comfortable at my stay here. Plus there’s a ihop literally next door or you can walk across to a mall and many other shops around at a walking distance.
Jan 21, 2025 · Highway HeroWow. Not in a good way. The desk when checking in was like a check in at a prison. Rude, indignant, and not caring. This was late afternoon. The room is clean so congrats to the cleaning staff. The breakfast is a joke. Some rotting bananas, dry cereal and of course waffles. Gotta like the shower handle. Live and learn. You get what you pay for.
Mar 12, 2025 · Kevin DunitzLooks like scammers. They show one price before starting to book, then price magically changes, probably they hope customers are blind and don’t notice anything. Then they have some deposit which is higher than price for the room. It seems they see in you miserable person who will still their shitty items. In the end I have chosen another hotel.
