We stayed at this hotel from 3-29-2025 to 3-30-2025. Our room was on the ninth floor and it had two double beds. Although room was overall decent, there was a dent across the room door from the inside. Bathroom was somewhat cramped; sink and shower were right next to each other. Parking was hard because we arrived late and garage was closed. Parking is also expensive at $39 per day. We ended up parking near a curb and it was free on weekend. The buffet breakfast was very good and staff were very nice and helpful. Curtis at the checkout made sure it was quick and easy. We will possibly stay here again if parking is easier and if bathrooms are more spacious.

Situated at One Bigelow Sq, Pittsburgh, PA 15219, USA, and readily accessible by phone at (412) 281-5800 or +1 412-281-5800, this Hilton-branded hotel is strategically located in the city's business district, providing convenient access to numerous attractions and corporate offices.

Environment and General Overview:

The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown is a substantial property with 342 rooms and suites spread across 19 stories (or 21, depending on the source). Originally built in 1950, it underwent a significant $14 million renovation that included 310 guest rooms, the lobby, meeting and conference facilities, and the on-site restaurant. Upon arrival, guests are traditionally greeted with DoubleTree's signature warm chocolate chip cookie, setting a welcoming tone. The lobby is generally well-maintained and has a polished appearance, contributing to a pleasant first impression. The hotel's design aims for a contemporary feel, blending modern amenities with its established structure. It is a smoke-free property. Views from higher floors can be spectacular, and some rooms may offer balconies overlooking a fountain.

Services and Features:

The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown offers a comprehensive array of services and features designed to enhance the guest experience. Dining options include the on-site Bigelow Grille, an award-winning American cuisine restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests can enjoy cooked-to-order breakfast (for a surcharge) from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM on weekdays and 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM on weekends. The Bigelow Grille emphasizes a sustainable approach, sourcing ingredients locally or growing them on-site. Room service is also available, including late-night options. The hotel also features a bar/lounge and an on-site convenience store for quick needs.

For recreation, the hotel boasts an indoor heated swimming pool and a spacious 24-hour fitness center. However, it's important to note that the pool was reported as "closed for renovations" in recent customer reviews. Guests should verify its operational status directly with the hotel. Other amenities include a 24-hour business center, a computer station, and free wired and wireless internet access throughout the hotel (including guest rooms, with reported speeds of 25+ Mbps). The hotel is well-equipped for events, offering over 12,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space across 10 meeting rooms, a conference space, a reception hall, and a banquet hall, capable of hosting productive meetings, weddings, and social events.

Additional services include a 24-hour front desk, express check-in and check-out, valet laundry service, luggage storage, and a front-desk safe. The hotel is pet-friendly, allowing pets for a fee. Valet parking is available (for a surcharge of $39 per night, with in/out privileges), though on-site parking is limited and height restrictions apply. Wheelchair-accessible parking is available, and nearby self-parking garages are also an option. Free newspapers are available in the lobby, and the hotel offers car rentals on-site.

Room Features:

All 342 rooms and suites are air-conditioned and feature premium bedding, including pillowtop beds with down comforters, and blackout drapes/curtains for a restful sleep. Amenities include 37-inch flat-screen TVs with premium channels, DVD players, and iPod docks for entertainment. In-room conveniences typically consist of a refrigerator, coffee/tea maker, in-room safe, desk, and iron/ironing board. Bathrooms feature a shower/tub combination, designer toiletries, and a hairdryer. While some reviews note that bathrooms can be "somewhat cramped" with the sink and shower "right next to each other," they are generally functional. Free cribs/infant beds and free rollaway/extra beds are available upon request. Hypo-allergenic bedding can also be provided. The suites, which are described as some of the largest in downtown Pittsburgh, often feature a spacious living room with a sitting area and may include a private kitchen with a microwave.

Important Considerations and Guest Experiences:

While the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown offers many desirable features, prospective guests should be aware of some recurring feedback. Parking, especially valet parking, is noted as expensive ($39 per day), and late arrival can make finding parking difficult as the garage may be closed or full. Some guests have found free street parking on weekends. While the staff, including front desk and valet personnel, are consistently praised for being "very nice and helpful," "accommodating," and providing quick check-out, concerns about room condition occasionally arise. Reviews mention "dent across the room door" or rooms being "kinda beat up," indicating that despite renovations, some wear and tear may be present. Cleanliness is generally well-rated, but occasional issues like stains or unvacuumed floors have been mentioned in older reviews. Noise levels, particularly from the road, can be a concern for some rooms. The temporary closure of the pool for renovations is also a point to consider. However, the comfortable beds and good pillows are often highlighted as positive aspects.

Promotional Information and Local Area:

As a Hilton property, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown participates in the Hilton Honors loyalty program, allowing guests to earn points for stays and redeem them for various benefits. Hilton frequently offers promotions such as discounts for advance bookings, extended stays, or package deals. Guests are encouraged to check the official Hilton website or contact the hotel directly for the most current offers and best available rates.

The hotel's prime downtown location is a major selling point. It is situated between the U.S. Steel Tower and PPG Paints Arena, making it ideal for those attending events. It is within walking distance to the "T" public transit train, which offers free rides downtown and to the North Shore, providing easy access to:

  • PPG Paints Arena (steps away)
  • Duquesne University (walking distance)
  • Cultural District
  • David L. Lawrence Convention Center
  • Heinz Field (home of the Steelers)
  • PNC Park (home of the Pirates)
  • Rivers Casino
  • Point State Park
  • Market Square
  • Numerous restaurants, bars, and shopping options
The hotel's central location makes it an excellent base for exploring Pittsburgh's attractions, whether for sporting events, concerts, business, or leisure. The proximity to major corporations also makes it a convenient choice for business travelers.

In conclusion, for local users searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in downtown Pittsburgh, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown offers a well-located and generally well-regarded experience. While urban parking costs and the occasional minor room imperfection are considerations, the hotel's strong points include its friendly and efficient staff, popular breakfast buffet, comfortable bedding, and comprehensive amenities, all backed by the Hilton brand's promise of hospitality.

Great location! Valet parking appreciated and valet staff was very accommodating. Had breakfast at The Grille. It was very good. Maps shows what appears to be The Kitchen and Grille with different menu items that I was very excited about; however, it appears to be the same restaurant without all of the menu items listed online. Pool looks lovely but was closed for renovations.

I would not recommend this hotel at all. They claim parking for $39.00 a night but when I checked in, they claim they had no parking and that i was to use their adjacent lot right across the street. They made it sound like it was a part of their extended parking but it wasn't and I was charged $114.00 for the night. They haven't been helpful at all regarding the $75.00 difference. Also the bed slanted down making for a terrible night of sleeping. Ice machine was broken. Just overall a terrible experience. Definitely think twice before booking.

Quiet Stay, Helpful Staff, But Hotel Needs Updates I recently stayed at the DoubleTree Hilton in downtown Pittsburgh. While the hotel was quiet and the beds were comfortable, the room itself felt outdated. The layout was a bit odd, and I would have preferred queen beds instead of doubles. The carpet was worn, the mini fridge was pretty beat up, and the washroom was quite small. One concerning detail was the blue tape covering the smoke alarm, which didn’t inspire confidence in the room’s upkeep. On the positive side, the staff were helpful and polite, quickly delivering towels when requested. The lobby was clean and well-maintained, which gave a good first impression. I heard renovations are coming soon, and they’re definitely needed. Overall, an okay stay, but I’d consider returning after the updates.

If the rooms were more up to date and not so rundown I would have easily given it 4 stars. It gave the impression Double Tree didn’t care. See my comments below for further explanation. In addition, as a Silver member, you would think parking would be free. $39 plus tip to park. There are no other options available nearby. You are pretty much forced to park in the hotel. They call it “Valet Parking” however, there is NO option to park the car yourself. With that said, the parking attendants are very effecient.
