I spent one night at the hotel. I am on crutches at the moment recovering from a hospital stay. I used their valet parking option. I pulled up to the main entrance and gave the valet the keys. I tried to enter the hotel and they turned me away because they were shooting a movie inside. They made me walk two blocks on crutches, carrying a small bag to enter the building. I said something to the staff about the inconvenience and didn't receive a response, not even an "I'm sorry". I then went through 3 key reprogrammings before the elevator would work. I spent 15 to 20 minutes in the elevator. Our party of people also kept being told to be quiet because they were filming in the building. The room was clean for the most part and quiet. The temperature controls were perfect and the king size bed was comfortable. The shower was great with very good water pressure. The sink in the bathroom didn't appear to have been cleaned as there were hunks of old soap laying around and stuck in the drain. When I checked out I mentioned the problem with the long walk to the checkout staff. Their response was "I'm sorry that happened to you". It isn't right that my stay was inconvenienced so the hotel could make money from a film while not notifying me of the situation and still charging me the full rate. I will avoid this hotel in the future because of their indifference to their customers.

Located at 530 William Penn Pl, Pittsburgh, PA 15219, USA, this grand hotel can be contacted at (412) 281-7100 or via mobile at +1 412-281-7100. As an Omni property, it is part of a portfolio known for upscale accommodations and attentive service, though, as with any hotel, individual guest experiences can vary. An objective introduction requires a detailed look at its environment, services, features, and an honest consideration of real customer feedback.
The environment of the Omni William Penn Hotel is undeniably iconic and centrally located within Pittsburgh's bustling downtown business district. Housed in a historic building that opened in 1916, the hotel exudes "old class feel" and "historic charm." Its address on William Penn Place places it directly adjacent to Mellon Square, a significant urban park, and within easy walking distance of major attractions such as the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, PPG Paints Arena, Point State Park, and various cultural venues. The hotel is also conveniently connected to the Pittsburgh Metro Rail System (with Wood Street PAT Station just moments away), offering effortless exploration of the city, including the North Shore stadiums and Station Square. The lobby and common areas are known for their beautiful architecture and grandeur, reflecting the hotel's rich past. This prime location is a significant advantage for both business and leisure travelers who wish to immerse themselves in the city's offerings.
The services and features at the Omni William Penn Hotel are extensive, aiming to provide a luxurious and comfortable stay. The hotel boasts 597 non-smoking guest rooms and suites, decorated in rich tones and cherry wood furnishings, designed to offer an "elevated old-world charm." Room amenities generally include premium bedding, down duvets, an in-room safe, desk, flat-screen TV with premium channels, coffee maker, and beverage chiller. Guests have noted that rooms are "clean for the most part" and "quiet," with "perfect" temperature controls and "comfortable" king-size beds. The showers are often praised for "very good water pressure." Accessible rooms are also available, featuring wider entryways, lowered fixtures, roll-in showers, and grab bars, along with visual and audible alarms for guests with disabilities.
Dining is a significant aspect of the Omni William Penn experience, with multiple on-site options. The hotel features three restaurants and multiple bars/lounges. The Terrace Room, serving breakfast and lunch, has been voted "Best Hotel Dining" by Pittsburgh City Paper readers. The Palm Court offers lunch, dinner, and cocktails, while the Tap Room provides another option for lunch, dinner, and cocktails. There is also a Speakeasy, inspired by the Prohibition era, which serves appetizers and cocktails, offering a unique and intimate social lounge. Mellon Square Coffee is available for morning drinks, breakfast, and lunch. While a buffet breakfast is available, it is often a surcharge (e.g., USD 23 per person), and some packages might include it. Room service is also provided for in-room dining convenience. A 24-hour complimentary executive fitness center is available for guests to maintain their routines, and the hotel can even provide an in-room "Get Fit Kit." Other conveniences include a 24-hour business center, gift shop, jewelry shop, dry cleaning/laundry service, shoe shine service, and a concierge desk to assist with local information and bookings. Valet parking is available, though it incurs a surcharge, and guests should be aware of this cost.
However, recent customer reviews highlight some significant areas where the hotel's service and maintenance may fall short of a luxury standard. One particularly negative experience detailed a guest on crutches being turned away from the main entrance due to a movie filming, forced to walk "two blocks" to another entrance without prior notification or apology. This incident, coupled with multiple key reprogramming issues for elevator access and being told to "be quiet because they were filming," indicates a severe lapse in guest communication and consideration, especially for a guest with mobility challenges. The lack of empathetic response from staff ("I'm sorry that happened to you" without genuine concern) further exacerbates the issue, leading to feelings of "indifference to their customers." Another review noted a "nasty stain on the sheets" that went "all the way through to the mattress cover" and "holes in them," a serious cleanliness concern that should have been caught during bed making. The bathroom sink not appearing cleaned with "hunks of old soap laying around and stuck in the drain" also points to inconsistent housekeeping. These issues, while perhaps isolated incidents, suggest that the hotel's operations, particularly when balancing events like filming with regular guest service, might not always meet the expected standards of a premium property, despite its "beautiful old class feel."
In terms of promotional information, the Omni William Penn Hotel, as an Omni property, participates in the Omni Select Guest loyalty program, allowing members to earn free nights and enjoy benefits like complimentary Wi-Fi and a welcome drink starting from their first stay. Omni Hotels & Resorts frequently offers various promotions. These can include: "Come Away With Us" deals offering percentage discounts (e.g., 15% off 2 nights, 20% off 3+ nights) during specific periods, often with added benefits like "Kids Eat Free" (for children 10 and under from the Junior Chefs menu for breakfast and lunch, and 50% off dinner with adult entr茅e purchase). Other common promotions include "Escape and Save" (up to 15% off for 2+ nights), AAA Rates (up to 14% off), Government & Military Rates, Senior Rates, and Advance Purchase discounts (up to 20% for non-refundable bookings). There are also specialized packages like the "Bed and Breakfast Package" which includes accommodations and daily breakfast, and "Park & Play" which might offer complimentary valet and a credit for Mellon Square Coffee. The hotel also promotes itself as a venue for events, with 52,000 square feet of function space, including grand ballrooms, suitable for weddings and conferences.
In conclusion, for users of the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform seeking a hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, the Omni William Penn Hotel at 530 William Penn Pl offers a distinctive experience rooted in its historic grandeur and prime central location. It provides a wide array of amenities, including multiple dining venues, a fitness center, and well-appointed rooms designed for comfort. However, prospective guests should be mindful of recent feedback that points to potential inconsistencies in customer service, particularly when special events (like movie filming) impact regular operations, and occasional lapses in room cleanliness. While the hotel generally provides a luxurious setting and access to many city attractions, the reported service shortfalls suggest that while its "bones" are beautiful, the consistency of its operational excellence might be variable. Travelers valuing a historic, elegant environment and proximity to city highlights should consider it, but manage expectations regarding potential service challenges during busy periods or special events.

May 19, 2025 路 George LeitzeGreat location and beautiful old class feel. It's an older building so it is expected to have some old age issues. The bedroom looked great when we arrived. The issues wasn't found until we got into bed late in the evening. We pulled back the covers to find a nasty stain on the sheets the was all the way through to the mattress cover. The sheets had holes in them. All of that should have been noticeable when making the bed. It was too late in the night to get new sheets so pulled extra blankets out of the closet to sleep on top of.
May 17, 2025 路 jason smithThis Hotel is beautiful, and huge. I love that the Parking is literally right across the street. Went to the Candlelight Four String Quartet here. It was beautiful, although the bass from the Wedding next door disturbed the Event. Other than that we had a Great Time here. 馃憤馃徎馃憤馃徎
Apr 30, 2025 路 Bryan ParkerWe came for the Taylor Swift themed Candlelight concert and it was absolutely gorgeous! Such a magical evening :) they recommended on the website for Candlelight to park in the Mellon Square garage which was full, so we parked in the Theater Square garage near Benedum and it was perfect, only an 8 min walk. Thanks for such a lovely night!
May 17, 2025 路 Maura BrownMy husband and I stayed here for a nice Valentine's weekend. I knew the place was nice based on photos online. The photos do no justice. This hotel is right out of the Gilded Age with a lot of the original art. Please read the history of the hotel and you will get a better understanding and insight on why this hotel is special. It is very obvious that this hotel is loved by the staff that work there as well as the ones who own it. I plan on going back this summer and if any time I am in Pittsburgh it will be here that I stay.
