Easily the most disappointing Autograph Series hotel in the collection. Other than being old and in a historical building, there’s not much else that qualifies it for Autograph material. First, the good: Gym is great for a hotel gym. Location is central downtown and near everything. The staff was friendly and attentive. Cool little Pop Up Bar on the second floor. Now, the less flattering part: Old, dated feel. Terribly small rooms. Can’t get the temp in 72 no matter what I tried. AC sounded like a jet engine and ran all night. Room was completely unacceptable for a 4 star hotel. No chair, desk, or space to do anything other than sit on the bed. “Barn style” bathroom doors that don’t fully close and provide little privacy and no bathroom fan makes bathroom experiences seriously lacking. I can’t imagine a room lacking the basics meeting any Marriott standard. Valet was SUPER expensive (45 a day) and took forever to get your car. Very little amenities/common area space made it difficult to get any work done.

Environment and Ambiance:
The Industrialist Hotel is housed within the historic 1902-born Arrott building, giving it a unique character that reflects Pittsburgh's rich past. The hotel's design is described as chic and reminiscent of the 1920s, yet it incorporates modern technology. The lobby features a welcoming sitting area with a fireplace and a small bar, creating a vibrant social space for guests. While the building itself is historical, some guest feedback indicates that certain aspects of the rooms may feel dated. The entrance way boasts original marble, contributing to its grand and unique atmosphere.
Services and Amenities:
The hotel strives to provide a range of services to enhance the guest experience. The staff is frequently praised for being friendly and attentive, offering helpful assistance with local attractions and logistics. Concierge services are available, as is luggage storage and room service during limited hours. For business travelers, there's a 24-hour business center and two meeting rooms, including The Exchange Room (891 sq. ft.) and the Founders Room (288 sq. ft.), with AV capabilities. Complimentary wireless internet access is available in all rooms and public areas, and express check-in/check-out services are offered for efficiency. Housekeeping services are provided, though some guests have noted instances where rooms were not serviced daily or required requests for basic items like towels and toilet paper. The hotel is pet-friendly, allowing two pets per accommodation for an extra charge, with service animals exempt from fees. The hotel also offers daily cooked-to-order breakfast for a fee, served from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Features and Facilities:
A notable feature of The Industrialist Hotel is its 24-hour fitness center, which receives positive remarks for being well-equipped for a hotel gym. Dining is a central aspect of the hotel's offerings. The Rebel Room, described as a modern restaurant, features American cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with a strong mixology program. There is also The Industrialist Lounge. Guests have generally praised the food and drinks at Rebel Room. A "Pop Up Bar" on the second floor has also been mentioned as a cool addition. Room types vary, including King and Queen guest rooms, with some suites offering additional living space. Rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs with Netflix and streaming services, air conditioning, and pillowtop beds with Egyptian cotton sheets. Bathrooms typically feature showers, hair dryers, and bathrobes. However, some reviews highlight challenges with room size, comfort, and functionality, specifically mentioning small rooms, "barn style" bathroom doors that may lack privacy, and issues with air conditioning noise and temperature control. While amenities like free bottled water are provided, some guests have noted a lack of basic in-room comforts such as a desk or comfortable chair in certain rooms.
Location and Nearby Attractions:
The hotel's central downtown location is consistently highlighted as a major advantage for those searching on "Hotels Near Of Me." It is situated within the city's bustling business district and is steps away from top attractions, businesses, restaurants, and shops. Key nearby points of interest include Market Square (0.1 miles), Benedum Center (0.3 miles), Heinz Hall (0.3 miles), Allegheny County Courthouse (0.3 miles), O'Reilly Theater (0.3 miles), and Point State Park. The hotel is also within walking distance of PPG Paints Arena and offers easy access to The T, Pittsburgh's subway system, connecting to various neighborhoods. Cultural institutions like The Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Science Center, and Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens are also within reasonable reach.
Promotional Information and Considerations:
While specific ongoing promotions are best confirmed directly with the hotel, general benefits for Marriott Bonvoy members or those booking through certain travel programs may include potential room upgrades upon arrival (subject to availability), property credits for dining or other activities, and complimentary breakfast for two. It is always recommended to check the latest offers directly with the hotel or on their official Marriott website for the most current promotional details. However, it's important for potential guests to consider some recurring feedback from past visitors. Valet parking, while offered for convenience, is noted as being quite expensive (around $45-$54 per day) and can sometimes involve long wait times. Some guests have expressed disappointment regarding room quality, especially for a Marriott Autograph Collection property, citing issues with cleanliness, bed comfort, and the functionality of in-room climate control. Misleading room descriptions regarding views or bed types have also been reported. While the hotel aims to provide a luxurious experience, some reviews indicate that the overall value for the price paid might fall short of expectations for certain guests. Potential guests should weigh these points against the positive aspects of the hotel's location, friendly staff, and unique historic setting when deciding if it fits their needs for a "Hotels Near Of Me" search.

Apr 20, 2025 · Patrick ROur stay fell well short of expectations, especially for an Autograph Collection property. We booked a misleadingly named “King Suite” with a “city view” on a higher floor, which was important to us while in town purchasing a downtown high rise condo. At check-in, I confirmed the details and was told yes, but the room we received had no “city view”, was on a lowest floor, and wasn’t well cleaned. The bed wasn’t a king and was very uncomfortable — both of us woke up with back pain, which is unusual for us and not what we’ve come to expect from Marriott. Breakfast vouchers we had prepaid for were initially “missing,” and my husband was treated rudely at the front desk. Only after calling were the vouchers located. We also had an issue with valet not checking us out properly, resulting in an incorrect $10 charge on my AMEX. The manager’s follow-up placed blame on their third-party valet company and promised a refund, which never came. I ultimately had to dispute the charge through AMEX. Charge was immediately refunded. We paid $1,415 for four weekday nights. For that price, the room quality, service, and experience just were not there. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand. Mistakenly trusted Marriot’s brand. I’ve advised our real estate agent at Piatt Sotheby's International Realty and future visitors - definitely book elsewhere.
Mar 27, 2025 · S HarrisExtremely Disappointed – Not Worth the Price or the Hype Our family invested a significant amount of money booking multiple rooms and an event at this hotel, expecting professionalism, hospitality, and basic accommodations in return. Unfortunately, we were met with the exact opposite. The elevators are shockingly small and slow for a property of this size, which caused delays and frustration throughout our stay. Despite paying for the lobby space and ordering food through the hotel, we were denied the ability to purchase additional food—even when we offered to pay out-of-pocket. Meanwhile, we witnessed multiple guests bringing in food from Uber Eats and DoorDash, despite the hotel’s claim that “outside food isn’t allowed.” The inconsistency and lack of fairness were blatant. Requests for basic items like towels and blankets were met with unreasonably long wait times, and the rooms themselves lacked sufficient drawer space for guests staying more than a night. For the price we paid, the experience fell far below even modest expectations. We expected more from a hotel charging premium rates, and what we received was poor service, inflexible staff, and policies that were both unclear and unevenly enforced. We will be sharing our experience widely to help others make more informed decisions—if you’re headed to Pittsburgh, do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel.
Apr 13, 2025 · Marcus “ALPHAinNJ” GarçonRecently stayed at The Industrialist Hotel in Pittsburgh and loved the historic charm of the property downtown. Not only was the staff amazing, they helped provide nearby suggestions that made me feel like an honorary local. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any couple or solo traveler looking to get away for a few days and explore downtown Pittsburgh and all it has to offer.
Apr 30, 2025 · Danielle TemplinWe enjoyed our time here! Wish the rooms were slightly bigger and that we had an actual table in our room with a chair, but overall enjoyed it! Very clean rooms and bathroom. Nice little pop up Christmas bar on the lobby floor as well. Also love some of the old details that are original to the building!
