We had a week long family vacation here and had a blast. What a perfect spot on a beautiful Adirondack lake. Be aware that the cabins are very rustic, but they had everything we needed. The resort also has a bar that is open a few nights a week that we enjoyed. My only critique is that we traveled to the resort by RV, but planned on staying in the cabin. They were very adamant that our RV could NOT be parked near the cabin. This was a bit of a pain, but we made it work. I'd go back there anytime!

Douglas Resort and Campground Introduce

For those searching the "Hotels Near Of Me" category with a preference for a more immersive and rustic Adirondack experience, the Douglas Resort and Campground, located at 2387 Silver Lake Rd, Au Sable Forks, NY 12912, USA, presents an inviting option. Contactable at (518) 647-8061 or +1 518-647-8061, this family-run establishment offers a blend of cabin rentals and extensive camping facilities on the tranquil shores of private Silver Lake, catering to visitors seeking an authentic outdoor getaway.

The environment at Douglas Resort and Campground is truly what defines its appeal. Nestled in the foothills of the Northern New York's Adirondack Mountains, the resort offers a "perfect spot on a beautiful Adirondack lake." Silver Lake itself is a private lake, contributing to a more secluded and peaceful atmosphere compared to busier public waters. This natural setting means guests are surrounded by lush forested terrain, offering a genuine sense of being "away from it all." The resort features a boat dock and ramp, as well as a marked-off swimming area, providing direct access to the lake for water-based activities. Reviews confirm that the lake is used by jet skiers, pontoon boats, and others, indicating a lively yet contained aquatic environment. The "pretty quiet place" with a "locals hideout feel" suggests a relaxed ambiance, though weekends might see more activity with boaters. The surrounding Adirondacks provide ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking trails, fishing (known for great Bass, Northern Pike, perch, and Trout), and simply enjoying the scenic beauty. The rustic nature of the accommodations, particularly the cabins, further integrates guests into this natural environment, appealing to those who prioritize authentic outdoor living over luxurious amenities. The serene backdrop of the mountains and the pristine lake create an idyllic setting for family vacations, fishing trips, or simply unwinding in nature.

The services at Douglas Resort and Campground are tailored to support an outdoor-centric vacation. For campers, the resort provides spacious campsites with full hook-ups (electric, water, and septic), including 30-amp and 50-amp options, and pull-through sites. There are also designated tent sites. A key service for all guests is access to clean bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, which are coin-operated but available around the clock. A laundry facility with coin-operated machines is also available, providing essential convenience for longer stays. The resort features a restaurant/bar, often referred to as "The Beach House," which doubles as the office. While reviews indicate it might be closed on certain days (e.g., Monday and Tuesday), it serves meals and acts as a central gathering point. Firewood and ice are available for sale, crucial amenities for campers and cabin guests alike. Free Wi-Fi is accessible, primarily around the restaurant/office area, acknowledging the often limited cell service in the Adirondacks, as noted by a guest ("Verizon is bad but most of the Adirondacks is that way"). The resort also offers boat rentals (fishing boats, party boats, kayaks, canoes, and motorboats) and boat mooring, catering directly to the lake-oriented activities. Horseback riding is another unique service mentioned, with "our own great horses" available for trail rides. The management is described as being "very adamant" about certain rules, such as RV parking near cabins, indicating a structured and organized approach to maintaining the resort's operations and guest experience.

Douglas Resort and Campground boasts features that cater specifically to its target audience of outdoor enthusiasts and families seeking a rustic retreat. The accommodation options are diverse: "very rustic" cabins/cottages, and roomy campsites. The cabins, while basic, are noted by guests as having "everything we needed," suggesting they are well-equipped for self-catering with kitchens, which can include refrigerators, ranges, and cooking essentials. Many cabins also feature a fireplace. For RV campers, sites come with full hookups (electric, water, septic) and are available as lakefront, beach, or offshore sites, with some being pull-through. Each campsite typically includes a picnic table and a fire pit/fire ring, essential for the camping experience. Recreational features are abundant and central to the resort's appeal. These include a private boat dock and ramp, a marked-off swimming area on Silver Lake, and opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and power boating. On land, there are nature trails for hiking, basketball courts, and a playground for children. The on-site restaurant/bar often includes an arcade, providing entertainment, especially on evenings when the bar is open. The "locals hideout feel" speaks to a genuine, unpretentious atmosphere. While the cabins are rustic, they provide a comfortable base for exploring the Adirondacks. The availability of pet-friendly accommodations (though restrictions may apply) is also a significant feature, allowing families to bring their furry companions.

Promotional information for Douglas Resort and Campground, when advertised on a "Hotels Near Of Me" platform, would strongly emphasize its prime location on private Silver Lake within the Adirondack Mountains, highlighting the direct access to water activities and natural beauty. They would promote the dual accommodation options: rustic cabins for those seeking a more traditional stay and comprehensive RV/tent sites for campers, appealing to a broad audience of outdoor lovers. The "family run resort catering to family fun" would be a key message, underscoring its suitability for family vacations. Seasonal offerings and activities, such as excellent fishing, boating opportunities, hiking, and perhaps specific events at the restaurant/bar, would be highlighted. The "pretty quiet place" and "locals hideout feel" would be used to attract guests looking for a peaceful and authentic experience away from more commercialized areas. Testimonials from satisfied customers, like the one stating, "I'd go back there anytime!" or praising the "perfect spot on a beautiful Adirondack lake," would be prominently featured. Any special rates for weekly or monthly stays, or seasonal discounts, would be promoted. Given the RV parking challenge noted in one review, the resort might clarify its policies regarding additional vehicle parking. The website and contact information would be clearly displayed to facilitate direct inquiries and bookings, reinforcing its accessibility through the "Hotels Near Of Me" search. The overall promotional strategy would aim to convey Douglas Resort and Campground as the ideal destination for an authentic, activity-filled, and relaxing Adirondack outdoor adventure for families and individuals alike.

Stayed 3 days in mid July in my 30 amp travel trailer for $37.80/night for electric, water and sewer. Free WiFi only around restaurant. Verizon is bad but most of the Adirondacks is that way. Plug is 30 amp but breaker is 20 amp. Not an issue as weather was nice and didn't need A.C. Arrived on Monday but looks like only 3 spots were open as most campers are long-term. Silver Lake is private and they have a boat dock and ramp as well as a marked off swimming area. 2 or 3 jet skiers and couple of pontoons used boat ramp/docks everyday. Has a restaurant/bar but it's closed Monday and Tuesday. Pretty quiet place and has more of a locals hideout feel. Suspect weekend might be different with more boaters.

My family have been attending the Douglas' for over 30 years. A fantastic family reunion trip, but certainly a rustic, scenic feel. Boats and other watersports are available for rent at a decent price. If you are particularly attached to creature comforts like cell reception and wifi, this is not the place for you, as modest WiFi is available only at the main house, which is also a Bar/Restaurant. The lake is beautiful, and the fishing is fantastic. Fires are allowed. Perfect for a retreat or getaway. Also relatively close to Lake Champlain, Lake Placid, and convenience stores are available at Ausable Forks, about a 15min ride from the main cabin. This is important as they do not provide much in the cabins. One must be prepared beforehand if they don't wish to do much shopping during the week.

While this is our second time at the Douglas, I believe it will be our last. The lake is wonderful and the kids love it, the cabin is clean - but - outfitted with items you would not purchase at a garage sale... We stayed for a week; they came and picked up the trash twice... and never once stopped to see how things were going. Don't forget to bring everything you need including toilet paper, they supply nothing but sheets for the bed. And the free Wi-Fi is only at the bar. I guess I am getting spoiled in my old age, if I pay over $1,000 for a week stay I am expecting more.

LOVE this place! How can you go wrong with a lake named Silver Lake and it is situated in a town called Hawkeye. Spectacular views and brews. The beach house has a full menu and bar for an added convenience. It is one of those special places that need to be experienced.
