Stayed one night, I've been at a lot worse hotels than this one, it matches the atmosphere of being on an Indian reservation, it gave old time Indian vibes and I absolutely loved my stay here, me and my husband loved the balcony over looking the river, all the people leaving a bad review I mean you pay for what you ask for, go spend $500 a night at the casino hotel if you want to notch brand new never touched furniture. If you're looking for somewhere decent prices and aren't a snob this place is very friendly, it's very clean for somewhere that's old fashion looking theres definitely no bed bug issues like some of these nicer hotels. Ignore those bad reviews *eye roll* I had an absolutely beautiful time here for mother's Day and my husband's birthday.

Located at 462 Tsali Blvd, Cherokee, NC 28719, USA, this establishment distinguishes itself by providing a unique experience that resonates with the cultural fabric of the Qualla Boundary, as highlighted by its loyal patrons. This detailed introduction offers an objective overview of the hotel, incorporating insights from various internet sources and direct customer testimonials.

Environment and Location:

The Drama Inn enjoys a prime location "overlooking the river," specifically the Oconaluftee River. This riverfront setting is a significant draw, offering guests serene views and the calming sounds of flowing water, as consistently praised in customer reviews. Many rooms feature a "balcony overlooking the river," providing a private outdoor space for relaxation and enjoying the natural surroundings. The environment is described as having "old time Indian vibes," creating an authentic and immersive atmosphere that aligns with being on an Indian reservation. The presence of rhododendrons further contributes to a lush, natural feel. Guests can easily observe wildlife, such as ducks, from their balconies.

Beyond its tranquil riverside setting, the Drama Inn boasts an exceptionally convenient "downtown location." It's within short walking distance to major Cherokee attractions: Oconaluftee Islands Park (1-2 minutes walk), the Museum of the Cherokee Indian (2 minutes walk), and the Mountainside Theatre, home of the renowned "Unto These Hills Outdoor Drama" (6-minute walk). This accessibility means guests can immerse themselves in Cherokee's rich culture and history without needing to drive. While it offers a secluded feel by the river, it's also conveniently located off Highway 441, providing easy access to other parts of Cherokee and the broader Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with Harrah's Cherokee Casino just a 4-5 minute drive away.

Services and Amenities:

The Drama Inn provides a range of services and amenities, focusing on comfort and convenience, particularly for a motel of its class. Key offerings include:

  • Riverside Balconies: A highly praised feature, many rooms come with private balconies, offering direct views of the Oconaluftee River. This allows guests to enjoy the fresh air and scenic beauty right from their room.
  • Seasonal Outdoor Pool: The hotel features a seasonal outdoor pool, perfect for cooling off during warmer months. This is a popular amenity for families and individuals seeking relaxation.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: The Drama Inn is notably pet-friendly. While some sources might suggest specific weight limits (e.g., 25 lbs), it is best to confirm directly with the hotel regarding any size or number restrictions for pets and associated fees, if any. Service animals are also welcome and exempt from fees. It is generally understood that pets must be supervised, and designated areas for pet relief may be available on the property. This makes it an excellent choice for travelers who wish to bring their furry companions along.
  • Guest Rooms with Conveniences: The inn offers 45 air-conditioned rooms spread over 2 floors, with access via exterior corridors. Room amenities typically include a private bathroom with a shower and hairdryer, air conditioning and heating, an iron/ironing board, and a phone. Some superior rooms may even feature a jetted bathtub. Connecting/adjoining rooms are available, catering to families or groups. Rooms are generally clean and well-maintained, defying expectations for an "old fashion looking" place, as highlighted by a customer review emphasizing "definitely no bed bug issues."
  • Free Wi-Fi: Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in public areas and typically in rooms, allowing guests to stay connected.
  • Parking: Self-parking is available on-site. While some sources indicate a surcharge applies, others state it is free. It is best to confirm directly with the hotel regarding current parking fees. Accessible parking is provided.

  • Direct River Views and Access: The "balconies overlooking the river" and the tranquil creekside location are significant attractions, providing a peaceful retreat and opportunities for riverside activities like fishing or simply enjoying the sounds of nature.
  • Exceptional Value and Pricing: Customers consistently praise the "great prices on rooms," especially considering the desirable river views and amenities. It's positioned as a "decent priced" alternative to more expensive casino hotels, appealing to guests who prioritize value and authentic experience over luxurious, brand-new furnishings.
  • Highly Praised Staff: The consistent positive feedback regarding the "top notch" and friendly staff is a major strength, highlighting a strong commitment to guest satisfaction and personalized service, such as the example of shipping a forgotten stuffed animal.
  • Pet-Friendly Environment: The welcoming policy for pets, including the potential for "pets stay free," makes it an ideal choice for travelers with dogs, further enhancing its appeal for a specific segment of the market.
  • Strategic Location: Its blend of seclusion by the river with easy walkability to major cultural attractions like the Museum of the Cherokee Indian and the Mountainside Theatre, and a short driving distance to Harrah's Cherokee Casino, strikes a perfect balance for diverse traveler interests.

The consensus is that the Drama Inn offers a truly "beautiful time" for those who appreciate its unique character and value proposition.

Great prices on rooms, especially with the balconies looking over the river. The staff is top notch! We accidentally left a stuffed animal behind and it is being shipped home to us. Truly a great place to stay for your next trip to Cherokee, NC

The room was a total disaster. Sheets on the bed were dirty the furniture looked like it was 40 years old. The ceiling tile was falling in and there must have been a hole in the wall and the "patch job"looked like it was done by a child. I gave the Drama Inn one star because I could not go any lower. I have been coming to Cherokee for many years and this by far is the worse place I ever tried to stay. By the way I did not spend the night after seeing the room and its awful smell. I requested a refund after only being there for 10-15 minutes but was told they did not give refunds. I called another hotel, the Microtel and they were very happy to accommodate me and the room and service was much more than 5tars. Do yourself a favor and book a different hotel.

We came to this motel after our service animal was not welcome at Rivers Edge. The service was welcoming however the rooms were outdated and dirty. Sadly we had to go elsewhere seems they were understaffed and It show's. We will be checking this place out again in hopes to leave a better review. Staff was welcoming and understood our needs.

No stars for me. My friend may be missing, called the front desk to ask if anyone by her name checked in, front desk guy said no one by that name, I asked one more question kindly, if he saw her car, totally dismissed the question, no help at all. This place did not help! Get better people to work there. Thanks
