I don’t understand all the 1 star reviews. We had a great time! The hotel is older and could use an upgrade but it was clean and that’s all that counts in my book. The parking garage does have a low clearance but we had no issue parking at all. The elevator wait wasn’t that bad either. All in all we had a wonderful trip

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For us Tennesseans, the Edgewater Hotel and Conference Center Gatlinburg offers a compelling and practical choice for a memorable visit to the Smoky Mountains. It balances the key elements many locals look for in a Gatlinburg stay: an unbeatable location, useful amenities, and a generally comfortable environment, despite being an established property.

The location alone makes it highly suitable for locals. Being right on River Road and within easy walking distance of the Parkway means we can enjoy all that downtown Gatlinburg has to offer without the constant need for driving. This is a huge convenience, especially for those familiar with the sometimes-heavy traffic in town. You can park your car in their covered garage (though do note the $15 daily fee and low clearance, as highlighted by a local reviewer) and forget about it for the duration of your stay, simply strolling to attractions, shops, and restaurants. The proximity to the Gatlinburg Convention Center is also ideal for those attending events, transforming a business trip into a mini-vacation with ease.

While some reviews mention the hotel being "older" and that rooms "definitely need to be upgraded," it’s crucial to note that guests often praise its cleanliness and the fact that rooms are "clean and that’s all that counts in my book." For many locals, a clean and firm bed (which one reviewer appreciated!) is more important than ultra-modern decor, especially when the goal is to be out exploring. The fantastic indoor/outdoor heated pool and two hot tubs are significant draws, providing a year-round option for relaxation and fun, a definite plus for families or for unwinding after a day of hiking in the nearby national park. The fact that the reviewer "had the pool area all to ourselves both days" suggests a potentially peaceful and enjoyable experience.

The complimentary continental breakfast is another practical benefit, allowing you to fuel up before a day of adventures without an additional expense. Plus, the private balconies in many rooms, offering river or mountain views, provide a lovely touch, a quiet spot for a morning coffee or an evening reflection.

Ultimately, for Tennesseans seeking a centrally located, clean, and amenity-rich hotel in Gatlinburg that offers a blend of convenience and a pleasant atmosphere, the Edgewater Hotel and Conference Center is a solid option. Its proximity to downtown, inviting pool area, and complimentary breakfast make it a comfortable and accessible base for experiencing the best of the Great Smoky Mountains. While it's wise to factor in the parking fee and appreciate its traditional charm, many locals will find it provides a genuinely wonderful trip and a great location for their Gatlinburg getaways.

We stay in Gatlinburg many times a year. Most of the hotels in on or near the parkway are priced for the convenience of location and not the amenities of their hotel. Edgewater has a pretty nice pool and hot tub. The rooms definitely need to be upgraded but most rooms in Gatlinburg do. It’s a nice location and walkable to the parkway and attractions. The reason for this review is the parking fee that has been instated since the first of June ( the front desk clerk said). This fee is $15 per night. It is not mentioned anywhere on their website. It was not mentioned through Hotels.com or the subsequent email Edgewater sent me in regard to parking. Not every hotel in Gatlinburg charges for parking. This is the second one we’ve run across. I think that the hotel should be upfront about this new policy at the booking. It’s going to be $30 for us this trip and that’s not a lot of money but it does factor into a budget. Nobody likes surprises when it come to finances.

Nice location with a small balcony facing river. Quick walk to downtown and all the restaurants and snacks. 2 hot tubs and a indoor pool that goes outdoors. Easy parking garage and a decent breakfast. Very good nightly rate!

2 stars only for location. Location is very convenient. But the hotel itself had bed bugs in our room, the hotel was very outdated. 2 elevators for the entire hotel so you wait forever. Stairs on opposite ends of hallway. Low clearance parking garage with water leaks from pool everywhere. Mattresses very very firm. After being moved due to bed begs I still couldn't sleep because my hips were killing me.

The location was great. Walking distance from mostly everything downtown. A trolley stops right at the sidewalk and it is free to take around town as well. Pool was warm and clean. Plenty of towels. Room was nice but our toilet did lean a bit and bath tub drained slow. Breakfast was okay. Was a great experience for us.
