When searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the South Jersey area, specifically around Medford, New Jersey, Flying W Enterprises Incorporated, often known as Flying W Airport & Resort, stands out as a truly unique establishment. Located at 60 Fostertown Rd, Medford, NJ 08055, USA, this property is more than just a hotel; it's a multi-faceted complex built around a private airport (FAA LID: N14), offering a blend of aviation services, hospitality, and recreational facilities. Originally opened in 1964 by local pilot William Whitesell, it was conceived as a place for both travelers and local families to enjoy, featuring an airport, motel, restaurant, and a distinctive airplane-shaped swimming pool.
Flying W Airport & Resort is nestled in a rural setting in Medford, New Jersey, providing a distinct escape from urban hustle. Its primary draw is the active airport, where guests can observe small aircraft taking off and landing, creating an engaging environment for aviation enthusiasts. The address, 60 Fostertown Rd, Medford, NJ 08055, places it within Burlington County, New Jersey, serving the townships of Lumberton and Medford. While it offers a secluded feel, it remains accessible, with proximity to major roads connecting to surrounding towns and attractions in South Jersey. For those seeking a unique backdrop for their stay, the airport environment itself provides a memorable experience.
However, it's important for prospective guests to note that due to its age and the nature of ongoing operations, the property has received mixed reviews regarding its maintenance and overall condition. Some customer feedback indicates concerns about disrepair, suggesting that while the concept is appealing, the execution of its upkeep may vary. The rural location means that while it offers peace, direct public transport access might be limited, and having a personal vehicle would be beneficial for exploring the surrounding areas.
Flying W Airport & Resort aims to provide a range of services that cater to its diverse clientele. For guests staying overnight, the property previously featured a 28-room motel. It's crucial to be aware that the motel reportedly closed in October 2019. Therefore, while historical information might list motel rooms, current "Hotels Near Of Me" searches should confirm the availability of lodging directly with the establishment if they are operating under a different model or if lodging has been re-established since the last reported closure. The available information suggests that when operational, rooms included amenities such as air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, private bathrooms, refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee/tea makers, offering basic comforts.
Beyond lodging, the Flying W offers a variety of public-facing amenities and services. A major highlight is the famous airplane-shaped swimming pool, known as "The Landing Strip Beach Club," which often features a Tiki Bar. This pool is a seasonal attraction, providing a refreshing spot during warmer months and a unique recreational option. Daily and seasonal pool passes are available, making it a popular local spot for family fun. The property also traditionally hosted on-site dining options. The "Patti Wagon Cafe" specializes in American cuisine, serving breakfast and lunch, while the "Flying W Bar" offers light fare and happy hour specials. The "Flying W Tiki Bar" is located by the pool and is open on select days.
For aviation services, the Flying W Airport operates as a full-service Fixed Base Operation (FBO), providing 100LL and Jet A fuel, flight training (for both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters), and aircraft maintenance. It also serves as a PSI Testing Center for aspiring pilots. These services highlight the unique dual nature of the property as both a resort and an active airport facility.
The resort also boasts an 18-hole Golden Pheasant Golf Club, adding another recreational dimension. For events and gatherings, the Amelia Earhart Banquet Room and a 4,800-square-foot tent are available for parties and celebrations, offering event space for various functions.
The most distinctive feature of Flying W Airport & Resort is its integrated airport and resort concept. This unique blend allows guests to experience aviation up close, whether they are taking flight lessons, chartering a plane, or simply enjoying the ambiance of planes taking off and landing. The airplane-shaped pool is another iconic element, adding to the property's charm and making it a memorable spot for families and individuals. The presence of multiple dining options, including a poolside Tiki Bar, further enhances the leisure experience. The golf course also contributes to its appeal as a diverse recreational destination.
Customer reviews, while mixed, often highlight the unique nature of the Flying W. Positive feedback frequently mentions the friendly bartenders, the fun atmosphere, and the appeal of watching airplanes. The pool and Tiki Bar are often praised as great places for family and friends to gather, offering a clean and well-kept environment for summer enjoyment. The property is often described as a "great place for music," with live entertainment frequently mentioned, suggesting a lively social scene, especially during peak seasons.
For local users searching "Hotels Near Of Me," Flying W Airport & Resort presents itself as a destination that goes beyond a typical hotel stay. Its promotional materials emphasize its "one of a kind resort" status, highlighting the airplane-shaped pool, the airport operations, and the various recreational and dining options. While the motel component may no longer be operational, the resort continues to promote its event spaces, flight services, golf course, and dining facilities, aiming to attract visitors for a day trip, an event, or an extended stay focused on its unique amenities rather than solely on lodging.
However, it is crucial to consider the candid feedback from past customers. One review mentions, "The owner hangs onto the property hoping for his golden ticket, meanwhile it falls into disrepair. It could be such a lovely community staple but greed hinders progress and the community suffers." This suggests potential concerns about ongoing maintenance and investment in the property, which could impact the guest experience. Another review notes, "Our bartender was nice & friendly. It was very loud in there. Not crowded yet the other bartenders were yelling & low ceilings increased noise level. Food could have been better, just had appetizers. Not likely to go back." These comments indicate that while staff might be friendly, aspects like noise levels and food quality in the dining areas could be inconsistent.
Therefore, potential visitors should approach Flying W Airport & Resort with the understanding that it offers a highly unique, aviation-centric experience and recreational facilities. However, given past customer feedback, it's advisable to manage expectations regarding the level of upkeep and potentially the quality of some specific services. It remains a distinctive landmark in South Jersey, attracting those drawn to its quirky charm and diverse offerings, especially for non-lodging activities like dining, events, golf, or enjoying the pool and airport atmosphere.

Jul 22, 2018 · Laura OtaniDecent bar, pretty good food, and great beer selection. It's right down the street from Big League Dreams, so drop the kids off to play and go here to grab a bite to eat and kill some time. There are air shows sometimes, and planes landing/talking off regularly, which is pretty cool.
Oct 22, 2018 · William EltonOld hotel attached to a small airport with a restaurant, indoor and outdoor bars and airplane shaped pool. Quaint, but could use some upgrades. Also, the menu in the bar last year was really good. It has changed and isn't nearly as good anymore. We were very dissapointed. However, nice little place for a weekend getaway. We will go there again.
