We stopped here for dinner while on snowmobile. There was only one bartender who was serving the bar and all the tables and one cook. So service was slow even though they were doing their best. We settled for pizza to make it easy on the cook. The pizza was fine nothing special.

Gogebic Lodge Introduce

For Michiganders, the Upper Peninsula is more than just a destination; it’s a rugged and beautiful escape that feels both wild and welcoming. Gogebic Lodge, a well-established resort complex nestled on the shores of Lake Gogebic, embodies this spirit perfectly. This article is crafted for you, the local user, who is looking for a comprehensive and factual overview of a place that has been a part of the U.P. landscape for years. We'll provide a friendly, professional, and honest look at what makes Gogebic Lodge a noteworthy destination, from its year-round appeal to the amenities and community that surround it. Our goal is to give you all the information you need to decide if this is the right spot for your next Michigan adventure, whether you're seeking a summer fishing trip or a winter snowmobiling retreat.

Gogebic Lodge is located at N9600 M-64, in Marenisco, MI 49947. Its location is a significant part of its identity, as it sits directly on the western side of Lake Gogebic, the largest inland lake in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This prime placement offers guests stunning lake views and immediate access to a vast body of water. For those traveling from other parts of Michigan, the lodge is conveniently located between US Highway 2 and M-28 in Bergland. This makes it a relatively accessible destination within the expansive Upper Peninsula, and the journey itself is a scenic drive through the heart of the Ottawa National Forest. The lodge's address places it in a serene, natural environment, yet its location on a major highway means it's not difficult to find. Its proximity to other popular U.P. attractions, such as the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, makes it an excellent base camp for exploring the wider region. The accessibility is a major advantage for Michiganders looking for a true northern getaway without an overly complicated travel plan.

As a full-service, four-seasons resort, Gogebic Lodge offers a wide range of amenities designed to cater to various interests throughout the year. The accommodations are diverse, ensuring there is an option for almost any type of traveler.

Services and lodging options include:

  • A variety of lodging accommodations, including one-bedroom cottages, and chalets ranging from one to four bedrooms, all with central air conditioning.
  • A campground area with full hookups for motor homes, campers, and tents, including water and electrical connections.
  • A full-service restaurant and bar, which serves as a central hub for dining and socializing.
  • Two protected harbors and a full-service marina, offering guests access to fuel, boat rentals, and live bait.
  • Boat rentals, including pontoons, fishing boats, paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes.
  • A sauna and a new screened-in pavilion with a grill, perfect for relaxation and group gatherings.
  • Free WiFi and Satellite TV in the accommodations, providing connectivity and entertainment.
  • On-site storage services for boats, trailers, and RVs during both the summer and winter seasons.
  • Special events hosted throughout the year, such as Lobster Boils and an Annual Ice Fishing Derby.
  • Direct access to a vast network of snowmobile trails, a major highlight for winter visitors.

These services collectively position Gogebic Lodge as a comprehensive and self-sufficient destination, where guests can find everything they need for a comfortable and adventurous stay.

The features and highlights of Gogebic Lodge are what make it a particularly attractive destination for Michigan locals seeking a genuine U.P. experience.

  • The resort's designation as a "four-seasons" complex is a key highlight, as it provides a valuable escape for every time of the year. Whether it’s fishing in the summer or snowmobiling in the winter, there's always something to do.
  • Lake Gogebic itself is a major feature. It is a recognized major fishery, often called "An Angler's Paradise," known for walleye, pike, jumbo perch, and smallmouth bass.
  • For winter enthusiasts, the lodge is a snowmobiling paradise, with direct trail access to hundreds of miles of scenic trails through the Ottawa National Forest. The area is known for its heavy snowfall, ensuring great riding conditions.
  • The on-site restaurant and bar with lake views provide a social atmosphere and a convenient place to eat and drink. The lodge is known for its large indoor Christmas tree during the holidays and hosts special events that bring the community together.
  • The variety of lodging options, from cozy one-bedroom cottages to spacious chalets and a full campground, means the resort can accommodate all types of travelers, from couples to large families and groups.
  • The full-service marina with boat rentals makes it easy for guests to get out on the water and enjoy the lake, even if they don't bring their own equipment.

It is also important for prospective visitors to be aware of mixed customer experiences. While the location and amenities are often praised, some reviews have pointed to challenges with service, particularly in the bar and restaurant. One reviewer mentioned slow service due to a single bartender handling all tables, while another described the service as "non existent" and the food as low quality. These experiences, though anecdotal, are part of the public record and may be a consideration for those prioritizing high-end food and quick service. The contrast between the excellent location and reported service issues is a key detail for anyone planning a visit.

Maybe 15 people in the whole place. Service was non existent. Third pound burger was as thick as a toothpick and burnt. Bartender was as nice as a cat in a bucket of water. Only getting 2 stars because the lights worked and it was warm inside

Back in the day this was a very nice dining experience. We went this past weekend and were greeted by a PUTRID smell. No one in sight. No one at the front desk. It smells and looks like it needs to be demolished. Very sad. I grew up there and it's sad to see it fall apart like that. It's a great location on Lake Gogebic. Hopefully some can turn this place around.

We drove 9 hrs from lower Michigan. When we got there are first boat we rented had a leak and was sinking! So they gave us a pontoon for the next morning. We bring 4 kids at 6 am to go fishing and the pontoon won’t start. So the next day (day3) we still have no boat. So I ask for my money back I was told a manager would call because they can’t do that. They Never did I called multiple times finally they told me there’s no refunds!
