Environment:
The environment at Graduate by Hilton State College is a key part of its appeal, characterized by a unique and fitting decor that strongly matches the vibe of Penn State University. This thematic approach is designed to resonate with alumni, students, and visitors alike, creating a memorable atmosphere. The hotel's interior is crafted to be visually engaging, with elements that reflect local history and collegiate traditions. Guests can expect spaces that are not merely functional but also aesthetically interesting. The hotel's downtown State College location provides immediate access to the vibrant heart of the town, placing guests within easy reach of local shops, restaurants, and the university campus. However, it's worth noting that while the unique design is often appreciated, some guests might find certain design choices, such as hallway and elevator finishes, to be visually overwhelming or disorienting. Furthermore, while the hotel strives for a comfortable environment, past reviews indicate that some elements, like older climate control units, might be loud, and general wear and tear, such as peeling wallpaper or sticky surfaces, could be present in some areas, suggesting that the property might be an older hotel that has undergone renovation. A critical aspect of the hotel's environment that guests should be aware of, as highlighted in a review, is the potential lack of emergency lighting or backup power in common areas like the lobby, hallways, and stairwells during a power outage. While power outages are external events, the absence of adequate emergency lighting is a significant safety concern that guests should consider, and it is advisable to inquire about the hotel's emergency preparedness. Despite these potential points, the overarching aim of the Graduate by Hilton is to provide an environment that is distinct and engaging, steeped in local character.

At this specific location, the "Trophy Room bar" is mentioned, indicating that guests can enjoy a good selection of drinks without needing to leave the hotel, adding a layer of convenience for evening relaxation or casual gatherings. The hotel, being part of the Hilton family through its association with Graduate Hotels, also typically extends benefits to Hilton Honors members, including earning points for stays and potentially receiving elite member perks. Features:
The Graduate by Hilton State College boasts several features that set it apart and cater to the needs of its clientele. The most prominent feature is its distinct decor, which is specifically tailored to match the Penn State vibe, offering a unique and immersive experience that goes beyond standard hotel aesthetics. Rooms are designed to be "adequate" with this fitting decor, ensuring that the thematic elements extend into the private spaces. A critical feature for guest comfort is the quality of the bedding; the bed is noted to be "comfortable," which is a significant factor for a restful night's sleep. As mentioned in services, the Trophy Room bar is a key on-site amenity, providing a convenient and well-stocked option for beverages and socializing. In terms of in-room amenities, guests can typically expect standard features like televisions and private bathrooms. However, it's important to note from a review that older climate control units might be present and potentially loud, which could affect some guests' comfort. Similarly, while specific details on internet access are not provided, reliable Wi-Fi is generally a standard expectation for modern hotels. The hotel's prime location in downtown State College is a significant feature, offering unparalleled access to the university, local businesses, and entertainment venues. While the hotel aims for a cohesive design, some guests have noted that elements like cabinets might not close properly or that surfaces could be sticky, and wallpaper might be peeling, suggesting that some areas may show signs of wear and tear, or that the renovation of an older property might not be uniformly polished. Guests should manage expectations regarding the condition of certain fixtures based on these observations.

Get directionsRooms were adequate with fitting decor that matched the vibe of PSU which I thought was unique. Trophy Room bar had a good drink selection. The bed was comfortable. However, one major issue is the lack of emergency lighting or backup power. There was a severe thunderstorm which knocked out power to the entire downtown State College area, which to be clear is no fault of the hotel. However, there is absolutely ZERO emergency lighting in the lobby, hallways or stairwells which is extremely dangerous in the event of a power outage or fire and is likely in violation of building code.
May 01, 2025 · Michael EspositoA shoddy flip of an older hotel. I expected better and was very disappointed. Cabinets didn’t close, surfaces were sticky, wallpaper was peeling, and the climate control units are dated and very loud. The design of the hallway and elevator finishes is visually overwhelming and disorienting.
Mar 17, 2025 · Terrie BrightmanI loved every detail of this hotel. I'm a senior at PennState and it made me feel like I was in a Preparatory school. It low-key gave the game "Bully," from the PS2. I had such a great time enjoying the little pocket dimension of a place this is! The key cards are even themed
Mar 30, 2025 · Astro BrandonWe had a fantastic stay 2 weeks ago. Location was perfect. The room was clean and easy to check in. The onsite restuarant manager Mark was extremely helpful. He was friendly, knowlegable about the town and accomodating. Will return to this hotel because of the wonderful service provided by him.
May 02, 2025 · Christie DLocation, location, location! The hotel is in a prime spot in downtown State College. The rooms and common areas are pretty cool, but are showing some major signs of wear. The elevators were very old and they only had one working elevator when I was there for 7 floors and 3 floors of parking ramp.
