We stayed in an Accessible King Suite at the Nittany Inn over graduation weekend and, unfortunately, the experience did not live up to expectations. We had specifically booked a handicap-accessible room for a member of our party with mobility challenges, but the bathroom featured a deep walk-in tub that was not practical or safe. It took multiple people to assist with bathing, which was stressful and far from the accessible setup we needed. Our room wasn’t ready at the scheduled check-in time, and it lacked basic essentials like tissues and a garbage can. Given that this was a minimum two-night stay at $1300 per night, in one of the inn’s premium suites, we expected a much higher level of preparation and care. We understand it was a busy weekend, but for that price, the basics should be covered—and guests should feel like their comfort and needs actually matter. The inn has potential, but a stronger commitment to accessibility and guest service is necessary.

The Nittany Lion Inn Introduce

For those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in State College, Pennsylvania, The Nittany Lion Inn stands as a venerable and iconic establishment deeply intertwined with the spirit of Penn State University. Located at 200 W Park Ave, State College, PA 16803, USA, this historic inn offers a distinct experience, combining tradition with modern amenities. You can contact them by phone at (814) 865-8500 or mobile at +1 814-865-8500.

The environment of The Nittany Lion Inn is consistently described as possessing a "true 'inn' vibe" reminiscent of a "Hallmark movie hotel for Penn State." This suggests a charming, cozy, and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere that evokes a sense of tradition and collegiate spirit. Its location is perhaps one of its most significant environmental advantages: it is "basically on campus," offering unparalleled proximity to Penn State University. Guests can easily "walk downtown, to campus, and the stadium," which is a major convenience for anyone visiting the university for academic, athletic, or social events. Furthermore, being "right off Atherton Street" provides "super easy access to shopping and restaurants" beyond the immediate campus area. The recent renovations have reportedly enhanced this environment, making it "beautiful, but still honor tradition," indicating a successful blend of classic charm with updated aesthetics. The presence of a "beautiful fireplace" and "many adorable alcoves" contributes to a warm and inviting communal space, ideal for meeting, working, or simply relaxing. The inn's surroundings likely feature well-maintained grounds, reflecting its classic and esteemed reputation.

The services offered at The Nittany Lion Inn are extensive, catering to a diverse range of guests, from university visitors to those seeking a refined retreat. As a full-service hotel, it provides amenities typical of a high-end establishment. The presence of "several charming places to get food or drinks within the hotel" suggests on-site dining and bar options, providing convenience and a complete experience. Guest reviews mention excellent housekeeping, noting rooms being well-maintained and attention to detail. This is a crucial service, especially for premium accommodations. However, specific instances, such as a room not being ready at the scheduled check-in time and lacking basic essentials like tissues and a garbage can, highlight potential inconsistencies, particularly during peak periods like graduation weekend. While the staff aims for a high level of service, the pressure of high demand might sometimes impact the promptness and completeness of room preparation. The inn also offers a concierge service, typically available to assist with local information, reservations, and other guest needs. Given its association with Penn State, the inn likely provides services tailored to university events, such as event planning, catering, and potentially shuttle services to campus locations, although these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews. The presence of a conference center suggests robust services for business and academic gatherings.

The features of The Nittany Lion Inn's rooms and property are geared towards comfort and luxury. Rooms are described as "huge and updated," providing ample space for guests. The amenities are highlighted as "luxury quality," indicating attention to detail and a commitment to guest comfort. This would typically include premium bedding, high-quality furnishings, and modern conveniences. However, a critical point raised by a guest concerns accessibility features. Despite booking an "Accessible King Suite" for a party member with mobility challenges, the "deep walk-in tub" was found to be impractical and unsafe, requiring assistance for bathing. This highlights a significant discrepancy between the hotel's advertised accessibility and the practical functionality for guests with specific needs, an area that requires stronger commitment and careful verification. Beyond the rooms, the inn features various communal spaces, including the aforementioned charming food and drink establishments, a beautiful fireplace, and numerous alcoves that can serve as private meeting or work areas. While the reviews do not explicitly list all features, a historic inn of this caliber typically includes a fitness center, possibly a gift shop, and extensive banquet and meeting facilities. The "new owners" have reportedly done a "fantastic job" with renovations, ensuring that the property remains updated while respecting its traditional aesthetic. The presence of a strong internet connection would also be an expected feature in such a hotel, though not explicitly mentioned in these reviews.

Promotional information for The Nittany Lion Inn often emphasizes its status as a landmark institution, its deep connection to Penn State University, and its blend of historic charm with modern luxury. It is likely marketed as the premier choice for alumni, faculty, prospective students, and anyone attending significant events at the university. Its prime location "on campus" and walkable distance to key university landmarks is a major promotional hook. The inn would promote its various dining options, highlighting its culinary quality and ambiance, perhaps featuring special menus or events. Given the high price point mentioned for premium suites during peak times ($1300 per night for a minimum two-night stay during graduation weekend), promotional efforts would focus on the exclusivity, convenience, and superior experience offered, justifying the premium. Special packages for university events, romantic getaways, or cultural experiences in State College would also be part of its marketing strategy. While the general experience is highly positive, the feedback regarding accessibility and basic room readiness during busy periods is crucial information that potential guests, particularly those with specific needs or on tight schedules, should consider when evaluating the promotional claims. The inn's strong reputation and its appeal as a "favorite hotel" for many repeat visitors are powerful forms of organic promotion.

This hotel is a Hallmark movie hotel for Penn State. It has a true "inn" vibe. The rooms are huge and updated. The amenities are luxury quality. There are several charming places to get food or drinks within the hotel. There is also a beautiful fireplace as well as many adorable alcoves you could meet or work. The location is perfect - you are basically on campus. You can walk downtown, to campus, and the stadium. It's right off Atherton Street, so it is super easy to access to shopping and restaurants. The new owners did a fantastic job. I worked here briefly in college and loved the lore of this hotel. The renovations are beautiful, but still honor tradition. This might be my favorite hotel I've ever visited.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been so lucky like Jeanine Van Fossan had been for being there. But, her descriptive and nice comment of the place have accelerated mine wishes to go that hotel. That’s come since first time that we were on town last year due to college pre registration activities and we saw the building from outside...so beautiful but our pockets were not the same for. Jajajajaaa! Simply, as a parents, we will still dreaming to be able to pass even a night there when God bless us with some money after covering our daughter expeensives first...Yes! You got do what you got do first. Oh, probably they have some discount for parents too. Uufff! I feel like we getting close!😄🤣🙏

I had a fantastic stay at The Nittany Lion Inn during my visit to Penn State! The hospitality from the entire staff was top-notch; welcoming, attentive, and truly made me feel at home. A special shoutout to the Triplett’s restaurant inside the inn. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was cozy, but what really made the experience memorable was the incredible service from Andy and Morgan. They were both friendly, professional, and went above and beyond to make each time enjoyable. Thank you to everyone at The Nittany Lion Inn and Triplet’s for such a warm and wonderful experience, I’ll definitely be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the very charming and conveniently located Nittany Lion Inn. The Inn was recently refurbished and included all of the modern amenities. The rooms were comfortable and spacious allowing for plenty of room to spread out and relax. The service was very friendly and attentive which contributed to our enjoyment during our stay. We had the option of valet parking, or a nearby garage. The garage worked out well, as there were plenty of available spaces. Overall, a great experience, and we certainly plan on coming back.
