Lovely dinner as guests of our son and spouse. The server was attentive and knowledgeable. I don't think I annoyed her too much. New drink and food menus were varied and appealing. We all choose different entrees. Delicious! Mixed drinks were made just right. We'll be back. June Houser

Hotel State College & Co Introduce

As part of the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform, Hotel State College & Co stands out as a distinguished option for anyone seeking accommodation in the vibrant heart of State College, Pennsylvania. Located at 100 W College Ave, State College, PA 16801, USA, this establishment offers more than just a place to stay; it provides a comprehensive experience, deeply rooted in the history and spirit of the town, particularly its strong connection to Penn State University. With its prime downtown address, guests are perfectly positioned to explore the local culture, university campus, and entertainment offerings.

The hotel's history dates back to 1855, with its roots as "Jack's Roadhouse" before becoming "The Corner Room" in 1926, which remains a key part of the hotel's identity today. This rich heritage is woven into the fabric of the establishment, offering a sense of place and tradition that newer hotels simply cannot replicate. The ownership, Hotel State College & Co, has worked to balance this respect for tradition with necessary modern updates, ensuring a comfortable and contemporary stay while preserving its iconic charm.

The overall environment of Hotel State College & Co is characterized by its central, bustling location. Being on West College Avenue, guests are immediately immersed in the downtown State College scene. The hotel itself, as evidenced by its various establishments, has a lively and engaging atmosphere. While specific details about the general hotel decor or room aesthetics are not extensively detailed, the presence of long-standing dining venues suggests a classic, perhaps even historic, interior in some areas, complemented by more modern touches in refreshed spaces. The reviews hint at a cool atmosphere and great location, which contribute significantly to the guest experience.

One of the most notable features of Hotel State College & Co is its extensive on-site offerings, encompassing a variety of dining and entertainment venues. This is a significant advantage for guests looking for convenience and diverse options without having to leave the premises. These establishments include:

  • The Corner Room: A true State College institution, The Corner Room has been serving the community since 1926. It's renowned as a place for locals and visitors alike to gather, enjoy a meal, and soak in the town's atmosphere. It offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, making it a versatile dining spot throughout the day. Its long-standing presence signifies its integral role in the town's social fabric.

  • Allen Street Grill: Located on the second floor of Hotel State College, the Allen Street Grill offers a more upscale dining experience with one of the most picturesque views of downtown State College and Penn State University through its floor-to-ceiling windows. This venue has undergone culinary shifts, with a recent focus on modern American fare, incorporating seasonal ingredients and Eastern European influences. This suggests a commitment to evolving culinary trends while maintaining a high standard of quality. Reviews, such as June Houser's, highlight attentive and knowledgeable service, delicious entrees, and well-made mixed drinks, indicating a positive dining experience for many.

  • Bill Pickle's Taproom: This taproom offers a more casual setting, likely focusing on a diverse selection of beers and pub fare, appealing to those seeking a relaxed atmosphere for drinks and conversation.

  • Zeno's Pub: Known as a local favorite, Zeno's Pub is a quintessential college town pub, offering a laid-back environment for drinks and socializing. It contributes to the hotel's comprehensive entertainment options.

  • Chumley's: Another establishment under the Hotel State College & Co umbrella, Chumley's further expands the entertainment offerings, though specific details about its type of venue are not readily available, it suggests more varied nightlife or casual gathering spaces within the hotel's larger complex.

  • The Basement Nightspot: As the name suggests, this venue provides a nightlife option, catering to guests and locals looking for a more vibrant evening experience.

The presence of these multiple venues means guests at Hotel State College & Co have an array of choices for dining and entertainment right at their fingertips, a significant convenience especially for those unfamiliar with the area or those who prefer to stay close to their accommodation.

In terms of services, while explicit details about all amenities are not extensively detailed, the customer reviews offer some insights. June Houser’s review praises the attentive and knowledgeable server, suggesting a focus on quality service in the dining areas. The hotel's operation of multiple establishments implies a dedicated staff to manage the diverse offerings. Based on general hotel standards and the caliber of its dining venues, guests can reasonably expect standard hotel services such as reception, housekeeping, and potentially other conveniences that support a comfortable stay. The fact that it's an independent establishment might suggest a more personalized service approach compared to large chains, although this is not explicitly stated. The contact numbers provided, (814) 237-4350 and +1 814-237-4350, ensure easy communication for reservations or inquiries.

A promotional aspect of Hotel State College & Co lies in its unique position as a historic landmark and a central hub for dining and entertainment. It appeals to a wide range of users on a "Hotels Near Of Me" platform – from those visiting Penn State University for events or campus tours, to alumni seeking a nostalgic return to their college days, to tourists exploring the charming town of State College. The promise of "new drink and food menus" and a focus on "delicious" offerings, as highlighted in one review, suggests a commitment to culinary excellence and freshness, which can be a strong draw for potential guests.

It's important to present an objective view, acknowledging all feedback. While many experiences are positive, as exemplified by June Houser's review, there are also contrasting opinions. One customer, for instance, found the service "borderline awful" and the food "bland/tasteless," with the only decent entree being a burger. This particular review, while acknowledging the "reasonably interesting and cool atmosphere in a great location," suggests that culinary consistency may vary for some guests and that there are "far better options in State College" for dining in their opinion. This indicates that while the hotel boasts a prime location and a strong historical presence, individual experiences with specific services, particularly dining, can differ. Prospective guests should consider this range of feedback when making their decision, perhaps focusing on the overall convenience and atmospheric appeal if those are primary factors, or researching specific dining options more thoroughly if food quality is paramount.

In conclusion, for local users searching on "Hotels Near Of Me," Hotel State College & Co presents itself as a hotel with significant character and a deeply embedded presence in downtown State College. Its historical significance, combined with the convenience of multiple on-site dining and entertainment venues like The Corner Room, Allen Street Grill, Bill Pickle's Taproom, Zeno's Pub, Chumley's, and The Basement Nightspot, makes it a compelling choice for those seeking a central and lively experience. While individual dining experiences may vary, the hotel's prime location at 100 W College Ave, State College, PA 16801, USA, and its comprehensive offerings contribute to its appeal as a unique and convenient destination in State College.

I honestly don't get the hype. Service was borderline awful. Food was bland/tasteless. The only decent entree in our party of six was a burger. Reasonably interesting a cool atmosphere in a great location, hence the second star. Bit believe me when I tell you that there are *far* better options in State College.

Everyone has been so nice, helpful & attentive to my needs. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel. There's only one downside, No elevator and all the rooms are on the 3rd floor. Pluses, the nightlife is close by, two terrific restaurants are on-site, the grilled stickies are a PENN STATE tradition!!

Pretty disappointed in the room at Hotel State College & Co. I thought it would be a nice place considering the location and the good reviews but the good reviews are actually for the "& Co" businesses (Zenos, Pickles, The Corner Room, etc.). The room itself reminded me of a hunting camp with all the family's hand-me-downs...old mattress, thin/small towels, dated dressers and desk. The staff was very nice though. I think there's a lot of opportunity here for a great hotel given its location and history, they just need to invest in the rooms. I would not recommend staying here at this time.

We recently visited the Allen Street Grille which is part of the Hotel State College. The staff was excellent and attentive. The waiters took great care of our large party and made sure everyone was happy, and the food was awesome. I would definitely recommend the ASG.
