Disappointing at best. I understand having a two-night minimum stay, but make it a place I want to stay for two nights! With a price tag of just under $250 for two nights I expect a.clean, fresh and completely functional room no matter where it is. This wasn’t the case at Green Cove Motel. The room had a musty, damp, unpleasant odor when we first entered. The window air conditioner wasn’t on and hasn’t been on for some time, but even after the room cooled down, the odor remained. The view out the back window and door was very nice as it’s literally right next to the river. This was a definite plus! The room was not clean. The floor needed at least a sweeping, the drop-ceiling needed a dusting to remove the many cobwebs that had been accumulated, the bathroom commode needed a good plunging, which we provided at no cost to the owners. At least one outlet had no cover, which was nasty looking and probably a bit unsafe. We’ll stay in the area again, but we’ll find different accommodations.
For those searching for 'Hotels Near Of Me' who prioritize direct access to nature and a no-frills, authentic outdoor experience over modern luxury, the Green Cove Motel in Tellico Plains, TN, presents a distinct option. Located in the heart of the Cherokee National Forest, its primary allure is its unique riverside setting and its role as a functional base for fishing and other outdoor adventures. It’s important for potential guests to understand that this establishment leans towards a rustic, "fish camp" style of accommodation, reflecting the natural and secluded environment it inhabits.
The environment of the Green Cove Motel is undeniably its strongest asset. Situated directly on the banks of the renowned Tellico River, guests have immediate access to world-class trout fishing. The sound of the flowing river is a constant and calming presence, offering a natural soundtrack for relaxation. This immediate proximity to the river means that some rooms offer a direct view and access, allowing guests to step out and enjoy the natural beauty. The motel is enveloped by the vast and unspoiled wilderness of the Cherokee National Forest, providing a true sense of being off the beaten path. This secluded location means minimal light and noise pollution, fostering a peaceful atmosphere ideal for reconnecting with nature. The air is fresh, and opportunities for hiking, exploring, and wildlife viewing are abundant right outside the door. Attractions like Bald River Falls and the Benton MacKaye Trail are within easy reach, making it an excellent base for adventurers.
Services at the Green Cove Motel are geared towards the needs of outdoor enthusiasts. As a rustic establishment, it does not offer the extensive services typically found in conventional hotels. The motel operates in conjunction with the Green Cove Angler Store, which is a significant amenity for guests. This store provides essential items, fishing supplies (including flies), camping necessities, and can even assist with obtaining hunting and fishing licenses. This convenience means guests don't have to travel far for their outdoor gear. Contact for the motel can be made via phone at (423) 253-2069 or mobile at +1 423-253-2069. It is important to note that, as a traditional "fish camp," the focus is on providing simple, functional lodging rather than extensive guest services like daily maid service, room service, or a dedicated concierge. Guest reviews suggest that while previous ownership was highly praised for hospitality, the current owners are generally perceived as nice. However, there have been observations regarding the store's operating hours not always being strictly adhered to, which is a point for guests to consider when planning their day.
The features of the Green Cove Motel are described as simple, functional, and reflective of its rustic setting. It is designed for practicality rather than luxury. Guest rooms are generally described as straightforward and equipped with basic necessities. Key features often highlighted include:
Riverfront Access: Many rooms offer direct views of or access to the Tellico River, a significant draw for anglers and nature lovers.
Basic Furnishings: Rooms are equipped with beds and linens which are generally found to be clean and in good condition by some guests. However, it's noted that furniture might be dated and show signs of wear.
Essential Amenities: While some rooms may have window air conditioners, their functionality and overall room condition can vary. Electrical outlets are present, but their appearance and safety should be noted as a potential concern based on feedback.
Kitchenettes (in some rooms): Larger rooms may feature full kitchens, though reviews indicate that these can be in "deplorable condition" with wobbly tables, minimal utensils, and worn chairs. The presence of ants has also been mentioned.
Off-Grid Experience: A defining characteristic is the lack of modern connectivity. There is typically no Wi-Fi or reliable cell phone service, encouraging guests to truly unplug. A pay phone at the store is mentioned as the only electrical connection to the outside world for communication.
Outdoor Accessibility: The property is well-suited for outdoor activities, offering easy access to fishing spots directly behind the rooms. There are no paved parking lots, with a dirt/stone lot, and guests should anticipate the need to manage outdoor elements like mud.
Pet Policy: It is generally understood that the Green Cove Motel does NOT allow pets, which is a crucial piece of information for travelers with animals.
Customer reviews provide a candid perspective on the motel's features. Recurring themes include the strong positive of the river proximity and fishing opportunities. However, cleanliness and maintenance are frequently raised as concerns, with descriptions of musty odors, dampness, unclean floors, cobwebs, and non-functional or poorly maintained amenities like commodes and uncovered electrical outlets. The aesthetic is described as "dingy, dirty, and in poor condition," with dark, cinder block rooms painted "battleship grey." Holes in walls and issues with doors and window seals are also noted. While the beds and linens are sometimes praised for being clean, the overall impression from some guests is that the accommodations do not meet expectations for their price point.
Given the nature of the Green Cove Motel, promotional information would likely focus on its unique appeal to a niche audience rather than conventional hotel amenities. Specific, time-bound promotions are not widely advertised, but its enduring appeal comes from its authenticity and location. When searching for 'Hotels Near Of Me' and considering Green Cove Motel, potential guests are advised to contact them directly at (423) 253-2069 or +1 423-253-2069 to inquire about any current rates or availability. The motel’s core promotional message would center on:
Unbeatable River Access: Highlighting its prime location for trout fishing and the serene sound of the Tellico River.
True Off-Grid Escape: Emphasizing the opportunity to disconnect from technology and immerse oneself in nature.
Rustic Charm: Appealing to those who appreciate a simple, unpretentious experience that connects them directly to the outdoors.
Gateway to Outdoor Adventure: Positioning itself as an ideal base for exploring the Cherokee National Forest, hiking trails, and nearby natural wonders like Bald River Falls.
Family Tradition: Drawing on the legacy of families returning for generations, underscoring its role in creating lasting memories through nature-focused activities.
While the Green Cove Motel may not suit everyone looking for 'Hotels Near Of Me', it holds a distinct appeal for those who value an authentic, rugged, and truly unplugged experience in a prime natural setting, particularly for fishing trips and outdoor recreation.

Aug 23, 2021 · Tracy HavlikWhat a dump! Plus side: Beds and linens clean and in good condition. The river is right out the back and my friends caught several nice fish-there’s very fishy spots there. That’s where it ends. I only went here because a friend organized a a fishing trip. The place is dingy, dirty and in poor condition. The rooms are dark, made of cinder block and painted battleship grey. There are holes in the wall in the shower, the back door sticks and there is plenty of light to be seen around the window heating/ac. The parking lot is dirt/stone and there’s no way to even wipe your boots or shoes when you enter. The larger room with a full kitchen was in deplorable condition. The table was super wobbly, there were minimal utensils, the kitchen chairs were in poor condition. Plus there were ants.
