I came to New Orleans with my partner for Spring Break and I have no felt so welcomed by a hotel staff. From the minute we got here they have treated us like family, especially Sean and Jasmine. The hotel has a beautiful courtyard and it is only a 10 minute walk to the French Quarter. Highly recommended to anyone looking to visit New Orleans!
Hello, Louisiana locals! When the allure of New Orleans beckons, whether for a vibrant staycation, a fun-filled weekend, or to host out-of-town guests, finding accommodation that balances location, character, and value is key. It’s about uncovering those places that truly offer a slice of the city’s unique charm. Today, we’re focusing on the **Historic Mardi Gras Inn**, a hotel aiming to provide a welcoming base from which to explore the Crescent City. This article will guide you through its location, reported features, and what you might expect, helping you decide if it’s the right fit for your next New Orleans adventure.
The Historic Mardi Gras Inn positions itself as a gateway to the authentic New Orleans experience. It’s located in a neighborhood known for its historic architecture and vibrant local scene, aiming to offer guests a comfortable stay with easy access to major attractions. While some reviews offer contrasting perspectives, the hotel strives to create a welcoming atmosphere. One guest raved about feeling "so welcomed by a hotel staff," being "treated us like family, especially Sean and Jasmine," which suggests a focus on personalized and friendly service. The mention of a "beautiful courtyard" also paints a picture of a charming space for relaxation. As with any accommodation, individual experiences can vary, but the intent is to provide a convenient and hospitable environment for visitors looking to immerse themselves in the New Orleans spirit.

The Historic Mardi Gras Inn is located at **1001 Marigny St, New Orleans, LA 70117, USA**. This address places it squarely in the heart of the **Faubourg Marigny neighborhood**, a vibrant district known for its colorful Creole cottages, live music venues, and bohemian atmosphere. The Marigny is directly adjacent to the famous French Quarter, offering an excellent balance of local charm and tourist convenience.
One of the most significant advantages highlighted by guests is its exceptional walkability. The hotel is "only a 10-minute walk to the French Quarter," making it incredibly easy to reach iconic destinations like Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, and a myriad of restaurants and shops without needing a car or reliance on ride-shares. This proximity allows guests to immerse themselves fully in the city's sights and sounds. The Marigny neighborhood itself offers its own unique attractions, including Frenchmen Street, renowned for its authentic jazz clubs and bustling nightlife, just a short stroll away. The hotel's location provides a convenient base from which to explore, allowing guests to truly experience New Orleans on foot. While specific parking information isn't consistently available in reviews, a location in the Marigny often implies reliance on street parking, which can vary, or nearby paid lots/garages. Its position on Marigny Street means it’s nestled within a truly authentic New Orleans residential and commercial area, providing a more local feel than properties deep within the French Quarter.

Due to the nature of the available public information, specific, ongoing "promotions" or "special offers" for the Historic Mardi Gras Inn are not consistently detailed. As with many independent or smaller hotels, special deals may be seasonal or offered directly. The focus appears to be on providing a welcoming experience and a convenient location at a competitive price point.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on availability, rates, and any potential short-term deals, it is always highly recommended to contact the Historic Mardi Gras Inn directly using their phone number. Inquiring about current rates for your specific travel dates will provide the most precise information. Given the mixed nature of reviews, clarifying all booking and refund policies thoroughly before making a reservation is advisable to ensure it aligns with your expectations.

For us Louisiana locals, choosing the right place to stay in New Orleans often comes down to balancing convenience, character, and value. The Historic Mardi Gras Inn presents itself as a contender for those seeking an accessible and potentially welcoming base for their city adventures.
The most significant advantage for locals is the **hotel's location**. Being on Marigny Street places you right in a vibrant, authentic New Orleans neighborhood, with the added benefit of being "only a 10-minute walk to the French Quarter." This means you can easily enjoy the iconic sights, sounds, and tastes of the French Quarter without needing to navigate constant traffic or search for expensive parking. It allows for a more relaxed and immersive experience, where you can stroll to your favorite jazz clubs on Frenchmen Street or explore the charming shops of Royal Street with ease.
One positive review highlights a strong point for locals: the reported **friendly and welcoming staff**. The sentiment of being "treated like family, especially Sean and Jasmine," suggests a personalized touch that can greatly enhance a staycation or a visit with family and friends. The presence of a "beautiful courtyard" also offers a pleasant outdoor space, a desirable feature for enjoying our warm Louisiana weather.
However, it is crucial for locals to be aware of the varied customer experiences. While one review speaks highly of the welcome and location, another describes issues with room condition ("smelly," "looked nothing like the picture online") and significant concerns regarding refunds and customer service, including a report to the BBB. This disparity suggests that potential guests should manage expectations and consider directly contacting the hotel to clarify any concerns about room appearance, cleanliness, and, most importantly, all booking and refund policies before committing to a stay. If the hotel consistently delivers on the positive experiences mentioned, its convenient location and potentially welcoming staff could make it a suitable, budget-friendly option for locals looking to explore New Orleans without a hefty price tag. As with any booking, a thorough inquiry beforehand is recommended to ensure your stay meets your specific needs.

Mar 19, 2025 · Jody MinxMy fiancé and I visited New Orleans and the room at this hotel was smelly and on top of that the room looked nothing like the picture online. Secondly, even though we never stayed there they never refunded me for the room even though we didn’t stay there. Travelers Pl EASE never stay here they will take your money and then blame it on the bank and I have reported this place to the BBB. Don’t waste your time about booking this dump.
Apr 18, 2025 · Larry WilliamsAbsolutely lovely! Rooms are super clean and spacious. LoLo at the desk was beyond welcoming and so very helpful with information about the area. I think I've found my new spot.
Mar 22, 2025 · Ted ElserBooked a room for one night for February 7th so I can take my mother on a cruise Feb 8. My mother has stage 4 cancer and her health is declining so I had to cancel the cruise and reservation. Olde Town Inn already charged my card $825.04 for one night, and they will not give me a refund although I’m canceling 4 weeks in advance. Their reasoning is that it’s Super Bowl Weekend. That same reasoning also guarantees that room will easily be rebooked. It’s insane that they’re keeping my $825, I’ve never had a hotel refuse to issue refund, especially with a months notice.
Jan 10, 2025 · Cynthia FinneganThey will take your deposit and blame it on the bank. My bank says there’s no trace of them trying to send me my 100$ back. Two different people “released” my deposit and the third person said it was released on the day I checked out. The manager, Jazmine, will not talk to you and I’ve been trying for weeks. I’ve accepted my loss but be careful with these people.
