Nestled within the historic French Quarter, this hotel isn't just a place to sleep; it's an immersive dive into the city's legendary past, with a reputation that precedes it.

The Haunted Hotel lives up to its intriguing name, offering an ambiance that appeals to those fascinated by New Orleans' rich, often eerie, history. While it embraces its spectral reputation, it also aims to provide a welcoming and comfortable stay for all guests. It's designed for those who appreciate character over convention, seeking a distinctive lodging experience that perfectly complements the mystique of the French Quarter. If you're looking for sleek, modern minimalism, this might not be your ideal destination. However, if you're eager to embrace the charming, sometimes quirky, and always unforgettable essence of New Orleans, with a chance for a ghostly encounter, then The Haunted Hotel might just be the perfect fit for your next adventure in the Crescent City. Let's explore what makes this historic gem a standout choice, from its prime location to its unique features and the experiences of its guests.

Location and Accessibility

The Haunted Hotel is ideally situated at 623 Ursulines Ave, New Orleans, LA 70116, USA. This address places it firmly within the historic and captivating French Quarter, providing guests with unparalleled access to the city's most iconic attractions. Its location strikes a commendable balance, being "easy to walk to many attractions around the French Quarter from here, yet far enough out of the way to not be too noisy."

Guests will find themselves just steps away from world-famous landmarks. Bourbon Street and Royal Street are within immediate walking distance, allowing guests to quickly immerse themselves in the vibrant nightlife, art galleries, and historic architecture. The Mississippi River and Frenchmen Street (renowned for its live music venues) are also within a convenient 10-minute walk. Iconic spots like Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral, and the French Market are all easily reachable on foot, providing endless opportunities for exploration. Public transportation is also accessible, with the Ursulines Ave Stop just a 3-minute walk and Dumaine St Station a 5-minute walk, offering connections throughout the city. While the hotel does not offer on-site parking, the highly walkable nature of its French Quarter location largely negates the need for a personal vehicle, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer to explore on foot. This prime location allows guests to truly feel embedded in the heart of New Orleans' most historic and lively district.

Services Offered

The Haunted Hotel offers a range of services and amenities designed to enhance guest comfort and provide a unique experience within its historic setting. While some elements might lean into its older charm, the hotel strives to provide essential modern conveniences:

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: Free wireless internet access is available in all rooms and public areas, although one guest noted issues with in-room Wi-Fi, finding it only worked reliably in the courtyard.
  • Guest Pantry Access: A "nice and unexpected amenity" highlighted by guests is the pantry, described as a "fully equipped guest kitchen stocked with beer, bread, coffee, and condiments." This allows guests to grab snacks and drinks at their convenience.
  • Air-Conditioned Rooms: All rooms are air-conditioned for guest comfort, essential in New Orleans' climate.
  • Private Bathrooms: Each room features a private bathroom with a shower/tub combination, along with essential toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and a hairdryer.
  • In-Room Entertainment: Rooms are equipped with 50-inch flat-screen TVs with cable channels, and some may include refrigerators, microwaves, and tea/coffee makers, enhancing self-catering options.
  • Daily Housekeeping: Housekeeping services are provided daily to ensure rooms remain clean and comfortable.
  • 24-Hour Front Desk: While specific hours for check-in are from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, guests are generally able to coordinate arrivals outside these times by contacting the property in advance, implying flexible staff availability.
  • Pets Allowed: The hotel is pet-friendly, with pets allowed on request, though charges may apply.
  • Garden/Courtyard Area: The property features a garden or inner courtyard, providing a quiet outdoor space for guests to relax.

  • Complimentary Bottled Water: Guests receive complimentary bottled water in their rooms.

Features / Highlights

The Haunted Hotel is celebrated for its distinctive features that contribute to its unique appeal and memorable guest experiences:

  • Authentic New Orleans Charm and History: The hotel offers an "informal," "quirky," and "murder-themed" ambiance, perfect for those seeking a truly unique and historic New Orleans stay. It embraces its "haunted vibe" with "graffiti-style paint" and "historic ambiance," making it a fun and distinctive choice.
  • Prime French Quarter Location: Its location on Ursulines Ave means it's "easy to walk to many attractions around the French Quarter" including Bourbon Street, Royal Street, and Frenchmen Street, yet it's "far enough out of the way to not be too noisy," providing a good balance of access and tranquility.
  • Exceptional Staff: Despite some specific room issues, the staff consistently receives high praise. Guests frequently mention how "wonderful the staff were," "very helpful and flexible," "amazing," and "friendly and informative." This dedicated service is a significant highlight.
  • Comfortable and Clean Rooms (General Feedback): Many reviews state that the "rooms are comfortable and clean." While one detailed review noted significant issues in their specific room (finicky toilet, non-working Wi-Fi, threadbare towels, holes in walls, exposed wires), the overall sentiment from numerous other guests indicates satisfaction with room quality and cleanliness.
  • Unique Amenities like the Guest Pantry: The "pantry for guests to use was a nice and unexpected amenity," providing self-service access to food and drinks, adding convenience and a homely feel.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: For those traveling with furry companions, the hotel's pet-friendly nature is a valuable feature.

It is important to acknowledge the detailed negative review that cited specific problems with a booked room, including a broken toilet, non-functional Wi-Fi, and issues with towels and room maintenance (holes in walls, exposed wires). This feedback suggests inconsistencies in room quality and maintenance that prospective guests should be aware of. While many other reviews are overwhelmingly positive regarding staff and general cleanliness, this specific account highlights that individual room experiences can vary, and it might be advisable to confirm specific room conditions or features when booking, especially if certain amenities like reliable in-room Wi-Fi are crucial.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a boutique-style hotel, The Haunted Hotel may not always feature the expansive promotional programs of larger hotel chains. However, they may offer special packages or discounts directly or through booking platforms. To find the most current and relevant offers, it is always recommended to check their official website or contact them directly using the provided phone numbers. Potential promotions or special offers might include:

  • Haunted Tour Packages: Given its name and location in one of America's most haunted cities, the hotel might partner with local ghost tour companies to offer bundled packages that include accommodation and tickets to a haunted history tour. One search result mentioned a "Haunted Tour Package" that includes Ghost City Tour tickets.
  • Seasonal Discounts: Rates may vary by season, with potential lower prices during off-peak times in New Orleans.
  • Direct Booking Benefits: Sometimes, booking directly with the hotel rather than through a third-party site can unlock exclusive rates or added perks.
  • Extended Stay Rates: For guests planning a longer visit, inquiring about discounts for extended stays could be beneficial.

The unique "haunted" theme itself serves as a draw, often making the experience the primary "feature" rather than traditional discounts. Inquire when booking to see if any special offers are available for your desired dates.

We so badly wanted to enjoy our time at this hotel. I can't say enough about how wonderful the staff were. Also, the pantry for guests to use was a nice and unexpected amenity. However, the room we booked was not what we were expecting. The beds were comfortable, but that's the only thing we really liked about it. The toilet was finicky and we kept having to open the tank to get it to fill. The wifi did not work in our room. We could only get it to work in the courtyard. The towels were thread-bare. There were holes in the walls and wires sticking out. I was hoping it could be due to the room being upgraded, but if that was the case, the towels would've at least been decent. We were really bummed it didn't work out. We ate the expense and stayed elsewhere.

Put this one at the top of your list of places to stay in NoLa! The staff goes out of their way to create a warm and welcoming home away from home. The hotel is beautiful and historic. It's also a stop on the local ghost tours! The courtyard is worth the stay alone, and the rooms did indeed have some activity at night that I cannot easily dismiss.

My son and I stayed for 5 nights at the haunted hotel. We came to ghost hunt in the city and the hotel was the perfect place to stay, the location is great and the hotel gives you the haunted vibe. Rooms are very nice but the staff is the best here, they are so friendly, and they will accommodate you in any way they can. We dealt with two different Christine's and they were both phenomenal and made us feel like family. We will be back to the hotel if we come back to new orleans
