We actually didn't end up staying here. We had reservations for 2 nights. When we tried to find a place to park there wasn't any places. The Inn advertised free on street parking. What they don't say is that all on street parking is residential with limited hours. But we could park 5 blocks away for $40 a day. There wasn't even room to unload our luggage. I really wanted to stay there. On a positive note, we did get all of our money back and the young lady was very nice.

Inn on St Peter Introduce

Hey there, fellow Louisianians and anyone looking to truly experience the unique soul of New Orleans! When it comes to finding a place to stay in our vibrant city, especially within the iconic French Quarter, the options can be overwhelming. But if you're seeking a balance of historic charm, modern comfort, and a location that's right in the thick of it all yet offers a peaceful retreat, then the Inn on St. Peter might just be your perfect match.

The Inn on St. Peter isn't just another hotel; it's a beautifully restored historic property, originally built in 1805 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It offers a glimpse into New Orleans' rich past while providing all the amenities a modern traveler expects. We're going to dive into what makes this inn so special, from its prime French Quarter location to its thoughtful services and unique features, helping you decide if it's the right fit for your next adventure in the Big Easy.

The Inn on St. Peter is ideally located at 1005 St Peter, New Orleans, LA 70116, USA. This address places it right in the heart of the French Quarter, a significant advantage for those who want to be immersed in the city's history, culture, and famous nightlife. Guests consistently praise its "Amazing location" and note that it's "Close enough but yet far away enough to enjoy some peace when you need it." Specifically, it's "just a three-minute walk from Bourbon Street and a short stroll to Jackson Square," making it incredibly convenient for exploring the area's most famous attractions on foot. Other key landmarks like Congo Square and the Preservation Hall jazz venue are also just a few minutes' walk away.

The Inn's location is perfect for "exploring the French Quarters," with guests confirming they "Walked at night with no issues." This balance of proximity to the lively areas and providing a quieter haven is a major draw. For those relying on public transportation, the "Rampart at St Ann bus stop" and the "St. Ann Street streetcar" are just "three minutes on foot," offering easy access to points beyond the immediate neighborhood.

Regarding parking, it's important to note that while some older information might have advertised "free on street parking," current reviews and hotel information clarify that all on-street parking in this residential French Quarter area is indeed "residential with limited hours." This means on-site parking is not available, and guests will need to utilize "paid public parking nearby." Various parking lots and garages are available within a few blocks, with costs typically around $40-$50 per day. For example, options listed by parking services include lots at 420 N Rampart St (0.2 mi away) or 529 Chartres St (0.4 mi away). It's highly recommended to use services like SpotHero or Premium Parking to "find and reserve parking near Inn on St Peter" ahead of time. Despite the parking challenge, the Inn's central, walkable location for French Quarter exploration is a significant upside.

The Inn on St. Peter offers a selection of services designed to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay in a historic setting:

The Inn on St. Peter offers a charming blend of historic character and modern amenities, making it a unique place to stay in the French Quarter:

It was "Renovated in 2024," ensuring modern comforts within a historic shell. The aesthetic is described as "quaint," "cute," and "nicely decorated."

  • Prime French Quarter Location with Peace: Its location at 1005 St. Peter Street is a major highlight. It's "close enough but yet far away enough to enjoy some peace," being just "2 blocks off Bourbon St but very quiet." This allows guests to easily access the lively nightlife without being constantly disturbed by its noise.

  • Individually Decorated, Comfortable Rooms: Each of the 29 guest rooms and suites is "individually decorated" with "homey decor and rich details," including "hardwood floors" and "plush, pillow-top bedding." Guests frequently mention the "Very comfortable room" and "comfortable mattress top pillows."

  • Modern In-Room Amenities: Despite its historic nature, rooms are well-equipped with "flat-screen TVs," "Keurig coffeemakers" (or just coffee/tea makers), "laptop-size safes," "air conditioning," and "ceiling fans." Bathrooms feature "Carrara marble tile" and "shower/tub combinations" with "free toiletries and hair dryer." Some rooms offer "balconies overlooking the exciting streets" or "terraces/patios" leading to courtyards.

  • Inviting Private Courtyards: The Inn features "gorgeous private courtyards" and "leafy, intimate courtyards interspersed throughout the property," offering tranquil spaces for guests to relax and soak in the ambiance.

  • Exceptional Staff: Consistently highlighted in reviews, the staff's "super service," "friendly and helpful" demeanor, and "very accommodating" approach significantly enhance the guest experience.

  • Suitability for Couples/Adults: With its romantic atmosphere and lack of extensive family-focused amenities (no pool or on-site restaurant), the inn "draws mostly couples," offering an intimate setting.

As a charming, boutique inn in the French Quarter, the Inn on St. Peter focuses on providing a quality experience, and while specific, widely advertised promotions might vary, it's always worth checking directly with the Inn for the best rates and any special offers.

Here are some general types of promotions or considerations to look for:

  • Direct Booking Benefits: Booking directly through the Inn on St. Peter’s official website (or French Quarter Guest Houses, its managing group) may offer exclusive rates, flexible cancellation policies, or other perks not available on third-party sites.

  • Seasonal Offers: New Orleans has a vibrant calendar of events. The Inn might offer special packages around major festivals (Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras, Halloween) or quieter off-peak seasons.

  • Longer Stay Discounts: Sometimes, booking for multiple nights (e.g., 3 or more) can unlock a reduced nightly rate, encouraging guests to extend their exploration of the French Quarter.

  • AAA/AARP or Military Rates: Inquire if they offer discounts for members of these organizations.

  • Best Rate Guarantee: Many independent properties or small chains offer a "best rate guarantee," promising that you won't find a lower rate elsewhere, or they'll match it.

Given its smaller size and personalized approach, the best way to uncover any specific promotions or discuss your needs is by contacting the Inn on St. Peter directly.

For us locals in Louisiana, the Inn on St. Peter is an exceptional choice for a genuine New Orleans "staycation" or for recommending to out-of-town guests who truly want to experience the heart of the French Quarter. Its greatest strength lies in its ability to offer an authentic, historic ambiance without sacrificing modern comfort, all within a location that provides the perfect balance: it's "close enough" to the vibrant energy of Bourbon Street and Jackson Square for easy walking access, yet "far away enough to enjoy some peace." Amazing place to stay. Close enough but yet far away enough to enjoy some peace when you need it. If you want to explore the French Quarters I recommend you this stay. Walked at night with no issues. Had amazing stay. Will definitely return.

This was my second time staying here and it was even better than the first. The beds are comfortable. The balcony views are great. You don't have to worry about having hot water in the shower or bath. The location is great for walking anywhere in the French Quarter, Marigny Triangle, Treme, and even downtown.

A lot better then what I expected, we were thinking one big room but we ended up having a large living room with the bathroom off there, and in the back the beds were pretty comfy. You have to be buzzed into the front office to check in everything is so secure, you can't get anywhere in the building without your room key. They even let us leave our luggage there before AND after we checked out until we were ready to leave New Orleans.

This hotel is like the off-brand version of your favorite grocery store product. Is it as good as the name-brand? Nope. But does it get the job done? Sure does. The location is a big win—smack dab in the middle of all the touristy stuff, and everything’s walkable. But don’t come here expecting to be wowed. This is strictly a no-frills, basics-only kind of spot. The bathroom? Tight. The coffee maker? Barely functional. The lamps? No extra plugs—your phone can fight for survival elsewhere. The French doors at the entrance? They require a small battle to lock. It’s like the hotel is challenging you to earn your stay. The good stuff: the bed is comfy, the room is clean, and the staff is super nice. And honestly, that’s enough for me. I’d stay here again because I don’t need the wow factor. But if you’re looking to impress someone special? Keep scrolling—this ain’t it. It’s not luxury, but hey, it works.
