The rooms are the size of a match box. Do not get decieved by the photos they have on the website. Apparently the photos are pre "renovation". Take a look at the photo to see what a "double king bed" looks like. The entire floor smells like cat piss. This is a disgrace to IHG.

Holiday Inn Express Roslyn - Long Island by IHG Introduce

The "Hotels Near Of Me" platform serves as a convenient resource for local users to explore various lodging options available in their vicinity. Among the hotels listed in the Roslyn area, the Holiday Inn Express Roslyn - Long Island by IHG is one such establishment. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of this hotel, detailing its general environment, typical services, common features, and integrating important insights from real customer reviews to offer a comprehensive picture for potential guests.

The Holiday Inn Express Roslyn - Long Island by IHG is located at 1053 Northern Blvd, Roslyn, NY 11576, USA. This address places it along a major roadway, Northern Boulevard, which is characteristic of many commercial areas on Long Island. For direct inquiries or reservations, the hotel can be reached at (516) 627-2460, with the mobile phone number also provided as +1 516-627-2460.

Environment:

The Holiday Inn Express Roslyn - Long Island is situated along Northern Boulevard, a prominent thoroughfare in Roslyn, New York. This location typically means the hotel is in a commercial zone, surrounded by a mix of retail businesses, dining establishments, and other service-oriented entities. The immediate environment is characteristic of a suburban commercial strip, offering convenience for guests traveling by car. While Roslyn itself is known for its picturesque village area, the hotel's specific location on Northern Boulevard suggests a more functional and accessible setting, rather than a secluded or scenic one. As an "Express" brand, the hotel's exterior usually features a modern, standardized design typical of the Holiday Inn Express chain, aiming for a recognizable and consistent appearance. The interior environment, particularly the common areas like the lobby and breakfast area, are generally designed to be bright, contemporary, and functional, adhering to brand standards. However, according to customer feedback, there can be significant issues with the interior environment, specifically a strong and pervasive unpleasant odor ("cat piss") throughout an entire floor, which severely detracts from the expected clean and inviting atmosphere.

Services:

Holiday Inn Express properties are known for offering a focused set of services designed for efficiency and value. Guests at this hotel would typically expect:

  • Complimentary Express Start™ Breakfast: A signature service of the brand, offering hot and cold breakfast options to all guests.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: High-speed internet access is usually provided throughout the hotel, including guest rooms and common areas.
  • 24-Hour Front Desk: To assist with check-ins, check-outs, and general inquiries. However, based on significant customer feedback, there are serious concerns regarding the professionalism and conduct of the front desk staff, including allegations of refusal to forward calls to guest rooms, even in emergency situations, and discriminatory behavior.
  • Parking: On-site parking is generally available and often complimentary, which is a common amenity for hotels in suburban areas.
  • Housekeeping: Daily cleaning of guest rooms is typically provided.
  • Business Services: Usually, a small business center with computer access and printing facilities is available.
The customer review specifically highlights a severe issue with front desk service, noting uncooperative and unprofessional behavior that allegedly includes blocking calls to paying guests and exhibiting discriminatory tactics. This is a critical point of concern for potential guests relying on standard hotel services and expecting respectful treatment.

Features:

The Holiday Inn Express brand focuses on providing essential and comfortable features for travelers. Guest rooms generally include:

  • IHG Studio: Modern rooms often feature a multi-functional space for work and relaxation.
  • Comfortable Bedding: Rooms typically come with comfortable beds, often with a choice of pillow firmness. However, customer feedback explicitly states that the rooms are small ("size of a matchbox") and that the photos on the website might be deceptive ("pre 'renovation'"). One guest specifically questioned the appearance of a "double king bed."
  • Flat-Screen TV: With a selection of channels for entertainment.
  • Private Bathroom: Each room would have an en-suite bathroom with a shower or shower/tub combination, along with basic toiletries.
  • In-Room Amenities: Typically include a coffee maker, iron and ironing board, and a hair dryer.
However, significant concerns regarding the condition and actual size of the rooms have been raised by customers. The report of "peeling wallpaper" and "broken overhead lighting" indicates potential maintenance issues and a general state of disrepair. The pervasive "cat piss" smell mentioned by a guest on an entire floor is a critical issue concerning the overall living environment and cleanliness.

Promotional Information:

As part of the IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) portfolio, the Holiday Inn Express Roslyn - Long Island by IHG would typically leverage the following promotional strategies:

  • IHG One Rewards Program: Guests are encouraged to join and utilize the IHG One Rewards loyalty program, offering benefits like exclusive member rates, points earning and redemption for stays, and other perks.
  • Complimentary Breakfast and Wi-Fi: These core amenities are consistently promoted as value-added benefits, distinguishing the Express brand.
  • Location Convenience: The hotel would highlight its accessibility via Northern Boulevard and its proximity to local businesses, attractions, and perhaps transportation hubs in Roslyn and surrounding areas on Long Island.
  • Brand Consistency: The IHG brand aims to convey a consistent level of quality and service across its properties. However, in this specific case, customer reviews indicate a significant deviation from expected brand standards, particularly regarding room condition and staff professionalism.
  • Online Booking Channels: The hotel would be promoted through IHG's official website and various online travel agencies (OTAs) like Booking.com, Expedia, and Hotels.com.
Potential guests should be aware that while the brand typically promotes a reliable and convenient stay, the specific customer feedback for this location raises serious concerns that directly contradict the usual brand promises. It is crucial for guests to review the most recent reviews and consider their implications before booking.

The front desk staff is very UNPROFESSIONAL @ this current date and time stamp. He refuses to forward calls to requested guest rooms, completely disregarding if it's a family emergency. Due to the fact it's a major disregard and also respect for the African Americans currently residing there. Moving forward I do hope corporate adhere to this utterly, inexcepadable, BLANTANTLY disregard and disrespect, discrimanation, tactics, to the completely highest level. This incident has occurred several times please review all incoming phone calls. It should be illegal for you to block paying constomer calls, contrary to how you receive thr payment. Let's everyone LEARN RESPECT! ALL phone calls are duely recorded, please due the occording due diligence. Have a great night

While the rooms are clean and in decent condition, everything in this hotel is unacceptably small. The king room had less than 100 square feet; there were less than 2 feet between either side of the bed and the wall; no seating; nowhere to put suitcases without blocking where you walk, and a desk and storage that were far to small to be usable. The bathrooms are just as small – if you are over 5’10” or over 200 pounds, you will NOT be able to fit into the shower without a major struggle. The common areas are just as cramped: There is no lobby whatsoever; the elevator can only comfortably fit 2 people and is slow; and the breakfast area only has 4 tables (and rather than add any expansion management just put up a sign demanding guests leave immediately after eating to make room). Finally, the rooms have no soundproofing: Expect to hear a lot of road noise, which is especially problematic as the building is directly facing Northern Boulevard. We left after the first night (with the hotel refusing to refund the charges for a second night) to book at the Inn at Great Neck for roughly the same price.

Rooms themselves were good, check-in was fine, late check-out was nice. Only complaint is the entrance is really weird - if you don’t drive in to the parking lot you have to walk up a driveway that’s only big enough for a car - so if a car comes through safety is a concern and either the person or car would have to back out.

The rooms are very small. The shower has no water pressure. No microwave or fridge. Dangerous entrance/exit since it is the same 1 lane. Breakfast wasn’t bad and the staff was friendly. Lot of money for little.
