Do not stay here. Be very careful and read all the small print before thinking about booking here. This is not a well run hotel that cares about its guests. The pictures on the website do not represent the rooms. I’ve booked a room with a fireplace and the room did not have that. Also be careful about what location - there are multiple buildings, ours had no elevator, just a random building overlooking a parking lot quite a few blocks away from the hotel. Did not represent what we had seen from Google and the website. Will also add that the Pearl Street location is extremely noisy with traffic (which was a surprise in Kingston) and the walls are thin. Cannot imagine getting a good nights sleep here. The service is very poor, you will struggle to get hold of the front desk (especially as they are possibly in a different building) as no one answers the phone, and if you have an issue our experience was that it will be ignored. Advice is not to stay here and find one of the other nice hotels in the area which are far less expensive.
For those exploring the "Hotels Near Me" options in the historic and vibrant city of Kingston, NY, Hotel Kinsley presents itself as a notable, albeit complex, choice. Located primarily at 301 Wall St, Kingston, NY 12401, USA, with additional accommodations spread across multiple buildings, Hotel Kinsley offers a distinctive boutique hotel experience. For inquiries and reservations, guests can contact the hotel at (845) 768-3620 or +1 845-768-3620.
Hotel Kinsley is designed as a collection of four distinct buildings in Kingston's historic Uptown district. This multi-building concept is a key characteristic, aiming to offer diverse experiences within the same brand. However, recent customer reviews indicate that this approach can lead to varied guest experiences and expectations. While one review highly praises the on-site brunch, stating "Everything is always super super fresh. Their omelette is super delicious. I’m also a big fan of the burger. Highly recommend this place if you visit Kingston or Rhinebeck," another provides a stark warning: "Do not stay here. Be very careful and read all the small print before thinking about booking here. This is not a well run hotel that cares about its guests." This contrasting feedback highlights the importance for potential guests to thoroughly research and manage their expectations, particularly regarding room features and specific building locations within the Kinsley portfolio. Transparency about which building a guest will be staying in, and its specific amenities, is paramount for a satisfactory experience.
Hotel Kinsley's primary environment is the historically rich Uptown Stockade District of Kingston. This area is renowned for its charming 17th and 18th-century stone buildings, cobblestone streets, and a lively atmosphere of independent boutiques, art galleries, and diverse culinary establishments. Guests staying in any of Kinsley's buildings are generally well-positioned to explore this vibrant district on foot, immersing themselves in Kingston's unique blend of history and contemporary culture.
However, the multi-building nature of Hotel Kinsley significantly impacts the guest's environmental experience. While the main building at 301 Wall St might offer a central and picturesque setting, reviews indicate that other properties, such as a "random building overlooking a parking lot quite a few blocks away from the hotel," can provide a vastly different ambiance. One review specifically highlights a "Pearl Street location" as being "extremely noisy with traffic... and the walls are thin," suggesting that the tranquil historic charm of Kingston might not extend uniformly across all Kinsley properties. This dispersion means the immediate environment can vary from quiet historic streets to busier thoroughfares, influencing noise levels and views. Potential guests should clarify the exact building and its surroundings when booking to align with their preferences for a peaceful or lively urban setting. Despite these variations, the overall location within Kingston's historic heart remains a significant draw.
The services at Hotel Kinsley appear to offer a mix of high points, particularly in its culinary offerings, alongside reported inconsistencies in front desk service. The on-site restaurant, which has garnered positive reviews for its "super super fresh" food and "delicious omelette" and "burger," is a significant service amenity, providing convenient and highly-rated dining for guests and locals alike. This suggests a strong focus on quality in its food and beverage operations.
However, customer feedback indicates challenges with hotel operations and responsiveness. Issues such as difficulty "to get hold of the front desk (especially as they are possibly in a different building) as no one answers the phone," and experiences where issues were "ignored," suggest areas where service consistency may vary. This highlights the importance of clear communication channels and accessible staff for guests, especially with the multi-building layout. While specific details on in-room services like daily housekeeping or concierge were not provided, a boutique hotel typically aims to offer personalized attention. Standard amenities such as private bathrooms and Wi-Fi are expected, though the reliability of Wi-Fi has also been cited as an issue in reviews. The experience of "no elevator" in some buildings and being located "quite a few blocks away" from the main reception also points to logistical aspects that guests should be aware of, impacting convenience for some.
Hotel Kinsley's features are designed to reflect a boutique aesthetic, blending modern design with the historic character of its buildings. The property often features "spacious rooms" with high ceilings, large windows, and luxurious touches, aiming to create a sophisticated and comfortable environment. Some rooms are promoted with features like fireplaces, contributing to a cozy and upscale ambiance.
However, reviews specifically mention a discrepancy between "pictures on the website" and the actual rooms, with a booked room featuring a fireplace not having one upon arrival. This indicates that specific features advertised may not be universally available across all buildings or room types, necessitating careful verification by guests. The multi-building structure itself is a key feature, offering various room configurations and styles, from the main building to potentially quieter or noisier annexes. Amenities like a lobby lounge, event spaces, and on-site dining (the highly-rated restaurant/brunch spot) are significant features. Pet-friendly accommodations are also a reported feature, appealing to travelers with animal companions. While specific details on room size, bed types, or in-room technology (beyond the general expectation of Wi-Fi) are not comprehensively detailed in the provided information, the hotel aims for a design-forward approach in its various properties. The fact that some buildings lack elevators is an important feature for guests with mobility concerns.
Hotel Kinsley's promotional strategy likely centers on its unique boutique aesthetic, its presence in historic Uptown Kingston, and its culinary offerings. The hotel's website imagery, while potentially misleading for some, plays a crucial role in promoting its design-forward appeal and the luxurious feel it aims to provide. For those searching for "Hotels Near Me" who appreciate style and a curated environment, Kinsley positions itself as an attractive option.
The highly praised on-site restaurant and brunch service are significant promotional assets, drawing both hotel guests and local patrons, and enhancing the overall value proposition. The hotel's strategic location in the heart of Kingston's vibrant Uptown district is a strong promotional point, appealing to travelers interested in exploring the city's historic charm, dining scene, and cultural attractions on foot. The multi-building concept, when managed effectively, can also be promoted as offering diverse options to suit different preferences (e.g., quiet retreat vs. lively urban experience). While direct promotional offers like discounts are not specified, the hotel's appeal lies in its unique brand experience and integration into the local fabric of Kingston, drawing guests who seek a distinct and memorable stay in the Hudson Valley. However, managing guest expectations regarding specific room features and building locations is crucial for effective promotion and positive guest outcomes.

Feb 22, 2025 · MartinI’ve never stayed at this establishment, but I had brunch here many times. Everything is always super super fresh. Their omelette is super delicious. I’m also a big fan of the burger. Highly recommend this place if you visit Kingston or Rhinebeck.
Apr 07, 2025 · Stanley ArdenLovely hotel in Uptown Kingston. Great staff and lovely place that welcomes our canine best girl. Rosie loves the homemade treats too. The bar is quaint with great drinks. Included breakfast is simple but with high quality products.
Mar 09, 2025 · Chelsea BoseleyOverpriced. For $400+ a night you’d expect a comfortable mattress — not the stiff spring that I had. I was in the Wall St location. This hotel suffers from a total lack of good management. If you needed help, good luck finding someone who could help you. No one greeting you or checking on your stay. There is hardly anyone working here—and the continental breakfast was a joke. No protein, no eggs no bacon. Just lame mini croissants, yogurt and lame bread. I’ve had better breakfasts in airport lounges. And there was no manager at breakfast. The design is cool and this could be a great oasis but falls totally short. No water or coffee or even tea in the room?!! WTH. For that price that is just not OK. This is not a luxury hotel by any stretch so don’t expect that service. I feel I did not get my money’s worth. Will never be back. The only good thing is the location - it’s central and close to shops and restaurants etc. but I’d have rather stayed in an Airbnb. Notes for ownership: Invest in good management and better training. Get nicer towels for the lord’s sake these are like sandpaper and anyone spending this much deserves decent towels. Put a nespresso or at least a freaking kettle and complimentary tea in the rooms - this is just sad at this price that you don’t have that. If you’re going to advertise a free breakfast make it decent — this one is just embarrassing and sad. Check in more with guests to make sure you’re providing the level of service expected at this price.
May 04, 2025 · NadiaUpdate: We spoke to the manager Charlie and she kindly assisted us and responded to our feedback to ensure they make any adjustments necessary. I appreciated how prompt she was to assist us. — We recently stayed at Hotel Kinsley, expecting a romantic getaway, but unfortunately, our experience was marred by several issues. The room's AC was malfunctioning, leading to a terrible night's sleep and severe allergies due to the stuffy environment. This was compounded by other disappointments, including a broken TV and poor service at the front desk upon check-in and during breakfast. Despite management's acknowledgment of these issues and a gesture of goodwill, we felt the compensation offered was insufficient given the extent of our inconvenience. A more substantial resolution would have been appreciated to reflect the negative impact these issues had on our stay and what was supposed to be a romantic getaway for us. We hope that future guests will not encounter similar problems. Until these issues are fully addressed, we would caution others to consider alternative accommodations in the area. Recommendation: Ensure that all amenities are functioning properly before booking, and be prepared for potential service inconsistencies.
