What a cool experience, and one that blew my mind when I showed up. I had no idea a hotel could look like this, with an instant vibe of early 1900’s nostalgia. The lighting is fantastic too, dim lit and cozy. Just look at the pictures and tell me this place doesn’t look amazing. They didn’t cheap out on little touches either. My comforter looked like it was custom made. The incredible bar felt like it was really made in the past too, with custom bar stools and couches. The real candle on the table had a dimmer! They had another speakeasy bar outside on the side of the building, with equal vibe ridiculousness. This was a one of a kind spot that is absolutely worth checking out, especially if you’ve seen the same kind of hotel a hundred times! Thank you for the great experience!

It's a place where every detail tells a story, perfect for those who appreciate art, history, and exceptional hospitality.

Hotel Ulysses is brilliantly located at 2 E Read St, Baltimore, MD 21202, USA. This address places it squarely in the heart of the Mount Vernon Cultural District, one of Baltimore's most historically significant and architecturally stunning neighborhoods. This means you'll be within mere steps of iconic landmarks such as the Washington Monument, offering a majestic backdrop and a taste of timeless grandeur. The world-renowned Walters Art Museum and the prestigious Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University are just a short stroll away, inviting guests to immerse themselves in world-class art and music. For those who appreciate green spaces, the charming squares and parks of Mount Vernon provide perfect spots for a leisurely walk. While slightly set apart from the bustling Inner Harbor, this allows for a more tranquil and authentic neighborhood experience, yet key attractions like the Inner Harbor, National Aquarium, and Oriole Park at Camden Yards remain easily accessible by a short ride or a pleasant walk. The hotel's location also offers convenient access to public transportation, including light rail stations and bus routes, making it easy to explore the wider city without a car. For drivers, it's advisable to inquire about parking options, as the unique design of boutique hotels sometimes means off-site parking, but the convenience of its central location for exploring on foot is a significant advantage.

Hotel Ulysses, with its commitment to a bespoke guest experience, offers a range of services that blend luxury with personalized attention. The aim is to make every stay unique and memorable, reflecting the hotel's distinctive character. Here are some of the key services you can expect:

  • 24-Hour Front Desk: The dedicated reception team is available around the clock to assist with check-in, check-out, local recommendations, and any other inquiries you might have.
  • On-Site Bars and Lounges: The hotel is celebrated for its incredible bar experiences, including the main hotel bar with its historical ambiance, and potentially a "speakeasy" style bar or outdoor lounge, offering craft cocktails and a vibrant atmosphere.
  • In-Room Dining: For guests who prefer to dine in the comfort of their exquisitely designed rooms, in-room dining services are typically available.
  • Concierge Services: Get expert advice on local attractions, dining recommendations, and transportation from the knowledgeable concierge team, ensuring you make the most of your Baltimore visit.

  • Valet Parking: While parking specifics can vary, boutique hotels often provide valet service for convenience, even if it's a paid service (confirm availability and cost with the hotel).

What truly sets Hotel Ulysses apart and makes it a must-visit for anyone in Maryland are its extraordinary features and highlights. These are the elements that create its captivating atmosphere and leave a lasting impression:

  • Unparalleled Aesthetic and Design: This is perhaps the hotel's biggest draw. Guests are consistently "blown away" by the unique, early 1900s nostalgic vibe, described as "mind-blowing." The dim, cozy lighting, custom-made textiles (like comforters), and period-perfect furniture create an immersive and visually stunning environment unlike any other hotel.
  • Exceptional On-Site Bars: The hotel’s bars are not just amenities; they are destinations in themselves. They are praised for their incredible atmosphere, custom details (like bar stools and couches), and "ridiculous vibe." The craft cocktails are a highlight, and the presence of a "speakeasy" style bar adds an element of exclusivity and fun.
  • Thoughtfully Decorated, Cool Rooms: The guest rooms are more than just comfortable; they are described as "one of the coolest" guests have ever stayed in. Expect very thoughtful decorations, great textiles, and unique touches that extend the hotel's distinctive aesthetic into your private space.
  • Stunning Views: Specific rooms offer incredible views, with one guest mentioning gazing at the Washington Monument from their bath, highlighting the unique perspectives available from the hotel.
  • Personalized and Outstanding Service: The staff consistently receives rave reviews for being "outstanding," "personable and professional," and "amazing from start to finish." This dedication to guest experience elevates the stay beyond just the physical surroundings.
  • Attention to Detail: From the custom-made comforters to the real candles with dimmers on tables, the hotel doesn't "cheap out on little touches," indicating a commitment to a truly luxurious and immersive experience.
  • A "One-of-a-Kind" Experience: Many reviews emphasize that Hotel Ulysses is a truly unique spot, a refreshing change for those who have experienced countless "same kind of hotel" stays.

While Hotel Ulysses offers a premium, boutique experience, it's always worth exploring if they have any special promotions or offers that might enhance your stay. As an independent or boutique property, their offers might differ from larger chains but can still provide excellent value, particularly for locals looking for a unique getaway. While specific promotions will vary, here are some common types of offers you might look for:

  • Seasonal Packages: Look for packages tied to specific times of the year, local Baltimore events, or holidays that might include dining credits for their bars, unique experiences, or discounted rates for certain stay lengths.
  • Mid-Week Specials: Sometimes, hotels offer more attractive rates for stays during weekdays when occupancy might be lower.
  • Romance or Celebration Packages: Given its romantic and unique ambiance, Hotel Ulysses might offer packages tailored for special occasions, potentially including champagne, turndown service, or breakfast.
  • Direct Booking Incentives: Many independent hotels offer exclusive perks or slight discounts when you book directly through their website or phone, rather than a third-party site.
  • Last-Minute Deals: Occasionally, if there's availability, you might find special rates for spontaneous, last-minute bookings.

To discover the most current and relevant promotions, your best approach is to visit the official Hotel Ulysses website or, even better, call the hotel directly. Their staff can provide up-to-date information and help you find the best option for your desired stay.

I truly cannot be more excited about a hotel! Stayed for a long weekend and was impressed from the moment I walked into the lobby. It smells great! Reception was outstanding! Perfect balance of personable and professional. The room is one of the coolest I have ever stayed in. Very thought decorations and the textiles are great! I was able to gaze at the Washington Monument while I was in the bath!!! Bloom, Ash, and the Coral Wig made me feel a lot cooler than I really am. Great atmosphere and craft cocktails. Just a great time in the city! Rare to have an experience that was excellent from start to finish, but everyone that I encountered at the Ulysses was amazing.

We had a great time staying at Hotel Ulysses! The location in Mount Vernon was fantastic and close to everything. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The bars/restaurants are truly unique and so well curated. The hotel rooms are on the smaller side, but we didn’t care because we were out for most of the day anyway. I adored the funky design of the rooms. Could not recommend more! Photo is the view from our room.

Wonderful Stay with Exceptional Service! My husband and I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Ulysses. The hotel has a distinct charm, and while the interior is certainly stylish, what stood out most was the warmth and hospitality of the team—especially the guys working at the Ash bar! We were lucky to have an amazing conversation with the chef, which made our experience even more special. Of course, the cocktails and food were absolutely on point, making our evenings even more enjoyable. The combination of great design, a welcoming people, and excellent drinks made our stay truly memorable. We’d love to come back!

The aesthetic and vibe of the hotel are definitely the main selling points – it's immaculate. The room, though small, was beautifully decorated, and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel also has a lovely scent throughout, creating an overall romantic atmosphere. It feels like a place designed for content creation, but the hospitality seemed to take a backseat. We absolutely loved the Coral Wig, and our bartender was amazing. However, we did miss more modern amenities (or any, really). We selected the continental breakfast option, but it didn’t exist, which was disappointing. That option should definitely be removed. Additionally, the water pressure and temperature in the shower were frustrating. Despite the beautiful shower, the water was only slightly warm, and we were freezing going in and out. I'm curious how rooms with bathtubs manage to have hot water for baths. We also waited outside for over 30 minutes for valet service, but it never arrived. We ended up having to self-park in the pouring rain. Overall, while the hotel has a lot of potential, there were several areas that left us wanting more. If what we paid had been a different price point I likely wouldn’t be writing this review but I was absolutely stunned when my husband shared he paid $300+ for such a lackluster experience.
