This location is absolutely horrible. There should be a disclaimer that this hotel is a subsidized homeless center / refuge before booking. The maintenance and upkeep of this hotel is also horrible. There is a difference between needing renovations and not keeping up with general maintenance. The bathroom was horrible kept, scratched wall paper that was peeling off, mold on the ceiling, rust in the shower tub floor, rust on the lighting fixtures, and cigarette burns on the bed comforter. Even outside the room there in the hallways, they’re are crumbs all over the floor. Would never stay here — this is the first hotel I flipped my mattress to check for bed bugs. This place is actually disgusting and absolutely doesn’t meet the quality standard of the Holiday Inn brand.

Environment and Location:
Hotel Worcester boasts a strategic location in downtown Worcester, making it a potentially convenient choice for those visiting the city. It is within walking distance of several major points of interest, including the DCU Center, Worcester Art Museum, and Mechanics Hall. Its proximity to UMass Medical Center is a significant advantage for those with appointments or visiting loved ones there. The hotel is also minutes away from various colleges and universities in Worcester, such as Clark University, Worcester State, WPI, MCPHS, Assumption College, and Holy Cross, making it a consideration for prospective students, visiting families, or faculty.

Being in a city center environment, guests might experience typical urban sounds. Some reviews suggest that rooms facing the street can be noisy due to traffic.

Services and Amenities:
Hotel Worcester offers a range of services and amenities designed to cater to both business and leisure travelers.

Complimentary Breakfast: One of the standout features often highlighted is the complimentary Express Start Breakfast served every morning. This is a significant perk, offering guests a convenient and cost-saving start to their day.

Connectivity: The hotel provides complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout the property, ensuring guests can stay connected for work or personal use. Wired high-speed internet access is also available.

Accessibility: The hotel generally offers facilities for disabled guests, including wheelchair accessibility throughout its grounds, and specific accessible room types with features like roll-in showers and grab bars in bathrooms.

Features:
One notable aspect of Hotel Worcester, as indicated by customer reviews, is that it also appears to function, at least in part, as a subsidized homeless center or refuge. This is a crucial piece of information for prospective guests, as it impacts the overall environment and guest experience. Some reviewers have commented on the presence of individuals in nightwear wandering the hotel and the breakfast area, and described some guests' behavior during breakfast as disruptive, such as taking large piles of food without using utensils. This mixed clientele is a distinctive feature of the hotel and has been highlighted by previous visitors as something to be aware of before booking.

The hotel is a 100% non-smoking property. It was built in 1982 and last renovated in 2015, featuring 5 floors and 97 rooms.

Promotional Information and Considerations:
As a Holiday Inn Express, the hotel aims to offer value for money, often including breakfast and parking in the room rate. It partners with local businesses, colleges, and area hospitals to offer various room discounts, which can make it an attractive option for those visiting these institutions.

However, it is important to address the customer feedback provided. Some reviews describe the hotel's condition as needing significant maintenance and upkeep beyond standard renovations. Specific complaints include scratched and peeling wallpaper, mold on the ceiling, rust in the shower tub and on lighting fixtures, and cigarette burns on bed comforters. Hallways have also been described as unclean. These concerns suggest that while the hotel offers a convenient location and standard amenities, the general cleanliness and state of some rooms and common areas might not meet the expectations associated with the Holiday Inn brand for some guests. One reviewer even mentioned checking for bed bugs due to the perceived lack of cleanliness.

Therefore, while the promotional information highlights the hotel's convenient location and complimentary services, potential guests should be aware of the mixed reviews regarding the property's upkeep and the operational aspect of serving as a homeless shelter. For those prioritizing proximity to UMass Medical Center, the DCU Center, or downtown Worcester attractions and seeking budget-friendly accommodation with inclusive breakfast and parking, Hotel Worcester may be a functional choice. However, those with higher expectations for modern aesthetics, pristine cleanliness, and a uniformly tourist or business traveler demographic should consider the detailed customer feedback before making a reservation.

Stayed one night, very convenient to U Mass Medical Center. Room was clean, bed comfy...upholstered chairs were a bit frayed but no biggie. Made use of the large work desk and TV in the room. Took us a minute to figure out it also operates as a homeless shelter. Why were so many people wandering the hotel in their PJ's!! The clientele also made breakfast in the way too small 2nd floor breakfast room interesting! Staff is aggressive but in their defense some folks don't understand how to act in a buffet. Left to there own devices, they would take piles of food, grabbing without the use of utensils. I watched one young man take all the bread and all the jelly packets. I get that he likely needed it but if your going to mix homeless folks with folks paying for a hotel, with amenities tensions run high.

This fine hotel is great if you only have to stay a short period of time. The front desk service is good, but the building suffers from having a good remodeling over very old bones. The hot water was adequate, but to keep it the same temperature, you had to keep adjusting it. As far as the soft goods, both my pillow and the sheets had stains on them. Perhaps the biggest downside was the in-room HVAC. The under window unit only had local control and it was only partially functional. I did appreciate that the parking was plentiful and on-site, as opposed to several of the other local hotels that use garage services. If you're thinking of coming here for a graduation, be sure to book early.

The location is good and that's about the only positive thing I can say about this hotel. My request for fresh linens during our check was denied after the front desk attendant stated, "the hotel was full last night so house keeping changed all the bed sheets.' I've stayed in many hotels including several Holiday Inn Expresses and I have never been denied a request for fresh linens. The box spring was exposed and old and the sofa chairs are also old with ripped upholstery. Our iron in the room didn't work and had to request for a replacement. There was water leaking from the ceiling of one of the elevators. In a nutshell, the hotel needs a facelift because many of the amenities are old and I'm glad we only stayed there for a night.

Because I travel often for work, I do stay in hotels often and have enjoyed the IHG hotels. Unfortunately my experience at the Worcester Holiday Inn Express didn't really compare to others I have stayed in. I guess what surprised me the most is that in the breakfast room, they have a kitchen attendant who is adamant that you are not allowed to touch any of the pans that have the eggs or breakfast meats. To the point where one morning I went down, there was no attendant around so I began serving myself as I have at every other IHG hotel and when she walked around the corner she started giving me an earful about it to the point where I just set my plate down and left the breakfast room. I get that they may have their procedures and the continental breakfast is just a small part of the stay, I just felt there was no reason for the attitude. Aside from that, the rooms are pretty good, and although they are dated and will probably get a renovation in a few years, they were clean. Throughout the day there are typically a lot of people hanging around and talking near the front entrance to the hotel, however, in the evening, it didn't pose any kind of noise nuisance when trying to sleep. Ultimately, this was my first visit to Worcester and I will be back in the future, however, I will most likely try a different hotel.
