We stayed for several days in May 2025. Everything was fine, any issues we may have had were dealt with promptly and with a smile. The staff gets a 100% approval rating from me. Pinal at the front desk was exceptionally helpful. We are very happy!
For individuals searching for accommodation through platforms like "Hotels Near Of Me," the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Clifton NJ presents itself as an option in Clifton, New Jersey. Located at 680 NJ-3 West, Clifton, NJ 07012, USA, this hotel aims to provide accessible lodging for travelers in the area. Prospective guests can contact the hotel for reservations and inquiries at (973) 471-3800 or via mobile at +1 973-471-3800.
The environment of the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Clifton NJ is characteristic of a roadside hotel, strategically positioned on a major thoroughfare, Route 3 West. This location offers direct access to key highways, making it convenient for travelers commuting to and from New York City (approximately 15 miles away) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), as well as various destinations within Northern New Jersey. The immediate surroundings are typically commercial, with other businesses, gas stations, and fast-food establishments populating the area. While not a scenic retreat, its primary environmental advantage is its vehicular accessibility and connectivity to a broader metropolitan region. The hotel aims to provide a straightforward and functional lodging experience. However, some guests have highlighted environmental nuisances, such as "a dumpster truck coming at 2:30 in the morning right next to my room making a huge noise then about 20 minutes later another dumpster truck comes and makes the same noise." This suggests that while convenient for transport, the immediate noise environment, especially at night, can be a significant drawback for some rooms.
In terms of services, the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Clifton NJ generally offers standard amenities expected from a budget to mid-range hotel. These typically include a 24-hour front desk, ensuring that assistance is available around the clock. Complimentary services often include free Wi-Fi access throughout the property and free parking, which are valuable conveniences for most travelers. While specific details on breakfast are not provided in the given reviews, Howard Johnson properties typically offer some form of complimentary breakfast or an on-site dining option. Housekeeping services are provided, though one critical review explicitly mentioned concerns about the "cleaning service ladies needs to wear hair nets and change all the sheets after they clean them not just the top service layer as they been doing and I can obviously tell," raising serious concerns about the thoroughness of cleanliness and hygiene protocols. On a positive note, one guest expressed "100% approval rating" for the staff, noting that "any issues we may have had were dealt with promptly and with a smile," specifically commending "Pinal at the front desk" for being "exceptionally helpful." This indicates that while there might be operational inconsistencies, individual staff members strive to provide good service. However, another guest's extensive list of unresolved issues with room amenities suggests that prompt resolution of all problems might not always be the case, and staff might not always be able to address all guest concerns, as seen with the "young overnight lady that they leave there all by herself says that it was my phone ironically anywhere else I go my phone is fine" in response to internet connectivity issues.
The features of the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Clifton NJ are designed to provide basic comfort and utility for travelers. Guest rooms generally include amenities such as a flat-screen TV (though one review notes "TV catches a lot of channels that are not in Signal very annoying"), air conditioning, and a private bathroom. Other common in-room features may include a microwave (though one guest reported the "microwave was missing that inside plastic ring that goes underneath the glass plate to make it spin, so the microwave looks like it was spinning but it really wasn't"), a refrigerator, and coffee/tea making facilities. Internet access is a standard feature, but a guest explicitly stated, "they claim they have internet depending on which room you're at will be depending if you have good internet or not," implying inconsistent Wi-Fi performance. The physical condition of the rooms and amenities also seems to be a significant point of contention. One reviewer lamented that "90% of the repairs it needs is so inexpensive and Petty it blows my mind that it hasn't been done," citing issues like a "backside of the remote was missing and the batteries were loose." The overall impression from this critical review is that the hotel "has so much potential though" but is let down by a lack of attention to detail and necessary repairs, leading to the strong statement, "If you put lipstick on a pig it's still a pig." This suggests a hotel that is functional but might not consistently meet modern guest expectations for comfort and maintenance. While recreational features like a fitness center or pool are common in Wyndham properties, their specific availability and condition at this location are not detailed in the provided reviews, and guests should verify directly with the hotel if these are important to their stay.
Promotional information for the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Clifton NJ, like other hotels in the Wyndham portfolio, likely emphasizes its value, convenient location, and standard amenities. For users of "Hotels Near Of Me," promotions would highlight its proximity to major highways for easy access to New York City attractions, corporate centers in Northern New Jersey, and regional points of interest. The hotel might target budget-conscious travelers, families, and business travelers seeking a straightforward and affordable place to stay. Wyndham Rewards loyalty program benefits are also typically promoted. However, prospective guests should carefully weigh these promotional messages against the detailed customer feedback. The highly positive review about staff helpfulness, particularly Pinal at the front desk, offers a glimpse of positive service potential. Conversely, the extensive negative review, detailing numerous maintenance issues, noise disturbances, and concerns about cleanliness and internet reliability, paints a picture of a property that may struggle with consistent quality control. This contrast in experiences suggests that while the hotel aims to provide an adequate stay, the actual guest experience can be highly variable. Therefore, while promotional materials will showcase the hotel's intended offerings, an objective assessment requires acknowledging the potential for significant disparities in room quality and operational effectiveness. The strong recommendation against staying there by one guest ("I wouldn't recommend it") should prompt careful consideration from those looking for a truly comfortable and trouble-free experience, especially given the suggestion that "the prices should be cut by at least 33.3% minimum to even consider staying here."

I'll let the pictures do the rest of the post I'm not going to write a book here but for all this that I have experience this should be a motel and the prices should be cut by at least 33.3% minimum to even consider staying here. With the fact that you only live once I wouldn't recommend it.
May 17, 2025 · Floridian Truth tellerThe hotel rooms smell a bit like cigarettes and / or weed. I can't tell. All I know is i don't like the smell when I first step into them. I have a sensitive sniffer, so it might be I can only pick it up. After a bit, I get used to the smell, leaving me with a slight headache. It might be just the cleaning materials, I really don't know. The service is very decent. I like the service. The location i really don't care for because I grew up in a small, quiet little town and then moved to the country, and I drive an 18-wheeler, so i really don't like cities. I can honestly say I hate cities. All in all though. I don't mind the hotel.
Mar 18, 2025 · Daniel JacksonI spent 2 weeks at this location. I’ve been coming here for years. My Family and I moved back to NJ. So this was the best spot well so I thought! During my Stay! I was admitted to Hospital and I guess I needed to resign paperwork after booking which I already done Once before. My 20 year old daughter was there with her siblings, and she tried to say my “Kids were there and they’re “ Too Young! Moving fwd they were completely Rude to me. Rooms were dirty, smells of drugs, Mold and lord knows what else was filling the hallways. Sheets were stained smh Extremely Unprofessional. Then as we sat in the back hallway waiting for Our ride. They Called the cops on us. No Reason. Denied my 2 year old a bathroom after she had to Potty a few times. The cops said that we could still sit and continue to wait as it was 10 degrees outside. Your company was quick to take my money With a smile, then turn around to act nasty! Its Very sad. To tell me my 2 and 1 year old need to sit outside is inHUMANE! I will reach out to cooperate. Clean your Rooms and stop allowing crackheads to rent out your rooms . Shame on You! I hope no one in life ever treats your family the way you did mine ! There is NO EXCUSE FOR THE BEHAVIOR WE had to experience. It’s giving Racist Vibes. DO NOT GET A ROOM HERE!
