My room was very nice. We had plenty of room to move around and be comfortable. The downside was no coffee maker and no coffee in the lobby. That was an inconvenience to me. I knew about the $100 cash deposit and the full amount was refunded to me at checkout. The neighborhood is not that great, as other reviews state. That didn’t really matter to us as we drove everywhere. The beach is a 7 minute drive. We weren’t there for the beach so that was fine for us, but may not be for others. It’s not that hard to look at a map and know it’s not on the beach!! Parking. Ugh! They don’t have very many parking spots. We were still able to get parking even coming back in the middle of the night. However, and not the hotels fault, someone blocked me in! I had to be somewhere by 9:00 and we couldn’t find the owner to the car blocking me in! They were great about it and said they were having it towed. Signs are clearly written to not block anyone in or be towed. I got out, but not without damage to my car and theirs! At that point I didn’t have time to wait for a tow so… maybe think about not blocking people in if you don’t want your car damaged! Hate to sound like that but I paid a lot of money for my destination and I wasn’t missing it! Nobody blocked us in the rest of the stay and the hotel was great about it.

JFK Rockaways Inn / Downtown Far Rockaway Hotel Introduce

For individuals searching within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, the JFK Rockaways Inn, also known as Downtown Far Rockaway Hotel, located at 10-25 Beach 21st St, Far Rockaway, NY 11691, USA, presents itself as a budget-conscious accommodation option. While some aspects of the hotel's physical property show promise, prospective guests must be aware of significant and recurring issues concerning staff service and consistency in amenities, as directly reported by real customers. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview, detailing the environment, services, features, and critical warnings for potential stays.

The environment of the JFK Rockaways Inn is situated in Far Rockaway, a neighborhood in Queens, New York. Guests should be aware that the "neighborhood is not that great, as other reviews state," implying that it may lack the polished aesthetic or abundant attractions of more tourist-centric areas. While the hotel is "not on the beach," it's noted that "the beach is a 7 minute drive," which might be acceptable for some guests, though not for those expecting beachfront access. The general environment is urban and practical rather than scenic or luxurious. The hotel itself, despite its neighborhood, has the "potential to be a very good hotel for its price and even more," suggesting that the internal environment of the rooms can be "very nice," offering "plenty of room to move around and be comfortable." This implies that the hotel's physical structure and room comfort are generally adequate for its price point. However, the overall atmosphere within the hotel is significantly impacted by reported staff behavior, which creates an uncomfortable and unwelcoming ambiance for customers.

The services at JFK Rockaways Inn are the subject of considerable negative feedback, particularly concerning staff demeanor and responsiveness. While the hotel phone number is (718) 925-4285 or +1 718-925-4285, the efficacy of reaching assistance is questionable. Customers report the "front desk girl is very rude," exhibiting behaviors such as denying the availability of towels while clearly having them, "sleeping in the main lobby on the couch," and "ignor the phone calls" by "silenc one of our calls" rather than answering. Furthermore, staff were overheard "talking bad and profile us in Spanish not knowing we’re hispanic," which is a severe complaint regarding unprofessionalism and discriminatory behavior. Requests for basic items like an "ice bucket" were met with a denial, despite an ice machine being available. These accounts paint a picture of highly unhelpful, unwelcoming, and unresponsive front desk service. One guest even reported being "locked out for a whole hour before being able to get in our room," leading them to "decided to leave to a different hotel." This directly contradicts the fundamental expectation of hotel service, which is to provide secure and accessible lodging. The customer service issues are so pronounced that a reviewer "recommend not going to this hotel for now until they replace some of the staff with happier people who are less rude, more inviting and welcoming. And helpfulness wouldn’t hurt."

Another crucial service aspect is the "$100 cash deposit," which guests are informed about beforehand. While one guest confirmed the "full amount was refunded to me at checkout," there is a warning to "beware of them taking your deposit if you do so much as stain a towel with a little bit of juice or makeup," and a concern that it's "like walking on eggshells" if staff "don’t like you." This indicates a potential for arbitrary or excessive charges, creating an atmosphere of distrust and anxiety for guests. The inconsistency in service and the potential for punitive measures regarding deposits are significant detriments to the hotel's reputation.

The features of the JFK Rockaways Inn are described as a mix of positive and inconsistent. Rooms are "very nice," offering "plenty of room to move around and be comfortable." This suggests that the physical space and general cleanliness of the rooms themselves are satisfactory. However, a significant inconvenience noted by one guest is "no coffee maker and no coffee in the lobby." This basic amenity, expected in most hotels, is absent. Furthermore, there's inconsistency regarding microwaves; some rooms have them, while others don't, and staff reportedly deny their existence in the hotel even when a neighbor had one. This inconsistency in amenities, coupled with staff misinformation, is frustrating for guests. The mention of a "small fridge" that "come with a freezer" is a positive, providing basic refrigeration. Parking is available, though described as "not very many parking spots." While guests were able to get parking even late at night, a severe incident occurred where a car was "blocked in," leading to "damage to my car and theirs!" due to an uncooperative car owner. While the hotel staff were "great about it" and offered towing, this highlights a potential logistical issue for guests with vehicles, even if the hotel takes appropriate action.

From a promotional standpoint, any marketing for JFK Rockaways Inn / Downtown Far Rockaway Hotel within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category would face significant challenges due to the overwhelming negative feedback on staff and inconsistent amenities. An honest promotion would have to emphasize:

  • Affordability: Position it as a highly budget-friendly option for those with limited financial flexibility.
  • Room Comfort (if available): Highlight that rooms can be "very nice" and spacious, focusing on the physical comfort of the private space.
  • Location (with caveats): Mention its location in Far Rockaway, potentially useful for some travelers needing to be in the area or near JFK, but clearly state it's not beachfront and the neighborhood is not a prime tourist spot.
However, given the severe customer service complaints, any promotional efforts would likely be overshadowed. The hotel's "potential to be a very good hotel for its price" is contingent on a fundamental overhaul of its customer service. Without addressing the "rude," "unwelcoming," and "unhelpful" staff, as well as the inconsistency in amenities and concerns about deposits, any traditional promotional campaigns would likely be ineffective or lead to further negative reviews. Future promotional efforts would heavily rely on demonstrating a significant improvement in guest experience, perhaps through a re-branding or new management that prioritizes customer satisfaction and staff training. For now, the most crucial "promotional information" for users is the warning regarding staff conduct and potential issues with amenities and deposits.

In conclusion, the JFK Rockaways Inn / Downtown Far Rockaway Hotel presents a challenging picture for users searching "Hotels Near Of Me." While some individual rooms may offer satisfactory comfort and space, the hotel is plagued by severe and consistent complaints regarding its front desk staff, who are described as rude, unhelpful, and unprofessional, even ignoring calls and sleeping on duty. Inconsistent amenities (like coffee makers and microwaves), a notable cash deposit system with potential for issues, and parking challenges further detract from the stay. The neighborhood is not a primary tourist draw. Therefore, despite its potential for a good price, prospective guests are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and consider other options unless specific circumstances leave them with "no choice." The hotel's ability to be a "very good hotel for its price" is entirely dependent on a drastic improvement in its customer service and operational consistency.

Honestly not very picky when it comes to hotels and I can honestly say this hotel has the potential to be a very good hotel for its price and even more. It’s very nice our only complaint was the staff members. The front desk girl is very rude, we asked for towels and was told there are none when we pressed the issue more we saw her open a big door full of towels so it makes her look very rude, also she was sleeping in the main lobby on the couch, which makes customers uncomfortable to ask for help. she would also ignore the phone calls as we watched her silence one of our calls by having to walk all the way down stairs just to see her ignoring the call. We also heard her talking bad and profile us in Spanish not knowing we’re hispanic. I honestly would love to stay in this hotel and am sure a lot of people would love it cause it is very nice the only issue is the attitudes of staff. They were not helpful what’s so ever when asked for a ice bucket we were told no, but there’s a ice machine. Also I noticed some rooms have microwaves but some rooms don’t when asked for one we were told no and that they don’t have microwaves in the hotel while a neighbor showed us there’s. They don’t answer the phone nor stay in the lobby we were locked out for a whole hour before being able to get in our room. We decided to leave to a different hotel after that because honestly the customer service was not welcoming, I recommend not going to this hotel for now until they replace some of the staff with happier people who are less rude, more inviting and welcoming. And helpfulness wouldn’t hurt. Front desk staff and amenities is my only complaint. Also beware of them taking your deposit if you do so much as stain a towel with a little bit of juice or makeup. Didn’t happen to us cause we made sure to be polite the whole time but I seen it happen which is why we made sure to be friendly and polite the whole time. If they don’t like you be carful it’s like walking on eggshells.

The room was very nice and clean. (Minus carpet which had various stains and was very dirty) The bed super comfy. Bathroom nice and clean with pleasant smelling shampoo and conditioner. We watched lots of good movies on the large tv. Many food options were nearby. Neighborhood doesn't feel safe at night.

Not in the best area. Rooms are clean and staff are helpful during the day but sleep and don't answer the phone over night so I had to walk down for service. No large bath towels, no hair dryer in the room. I was staying because my flight through JFK was canceled so I needed to hand wash some of my clothes and then wasn't able to dry them. Of course, if I broke or stole something I would be charged but if they don't have all of the amenities a hotel is supposed to have they still get to charge full price...

(1) very bad handling from reception staff girl (2) I arrived 3 hours before check in and after one hour they asked me to pay extra 50 dollars for early check in in spite there was a vacant room and I payed it ( this is not happening in any hotel). (3) room was unclean and no daily room services. (4) no coffee no water nor tea. (5) i could not sleep because of the noise till 4 am. (6) they refuse to allow for 3 h late check out and asked for extra money. (7) this hotel is the worst hotel i have ever seen
