Room is not at all what is portrayed on Airbnb. It was also $400 per night which is insane considering what the place looks like. Rug was all stained.. wallpaper coming off the walls. The WiFi didn’t work and we had two kids so that was a big deal. Definitely not worth the 800 I paid for two nights. Shady company.
For local users searching within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, High Tide, located at 9720 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Rockaway Beach, NY 11693, USA, positions itself as a practical option for those prioritizing proximity to Rockaway Beach. While its primary appeal lies in its location, it is crucial for prospective guests to manage their expectations regarding the accommodations, as indicated by various customer reviews. High Tide appears to cater to travelers looking for a basic place to sleep with excellent access to the beach and local eateries, rather than a luxury or amenity-rich hotel experience.
The most significant advantage of High Tide is its prime location directly on Rockaway Beach Boulevard. This means guests are typically just a very short walk from the iconic Rockaway Beach, known for its surfing, boardwalk, and vibrant community. The address itself, 9720 Rockaway Beach Blvd, places it squarely in the heart of the beach action. This is ideal for visitors whose main objective is to spend time by the ocean, whether for sunbathing, swimming, or engaging in water sports.
The hotel is situated above a "very excellent BBQ place," which has been voted "best in Queens" according to one review. This can be a definite plus for food enthusiasts looking for convenient and highly-rated dining options right downstairs. However, the presence of a popular establishment also implies that the area can be lively, with music playing later into the evening. Guests sensitive to noise should be aware of this, though one review notes that earplugs (which were provided) can mitigate this. The immediate surroundings offer a quintessential Rockaway Beach experience, with easy access to local shops, cafes, and the laid-back beach town vibe. Public transportation, including subway stations like Beach 90 Street and Beach 98 Street, are within walking distance, offering connections to other parts of Queens and New York City. John F. Kennedy International Airport is also a relatively short drive away (approximately 20 minutes).
Based on customer feedback and general hotel industry standards for a basic establishment, High Tide provides essential services geared towards functionality rather than extensive luxury. The primary service offered is providing a place to stay, with rooms featuring air conditioning and heating for comfort. While details on specific front desk hours are not explicitly stated in the provided reviews, the nature of such accommodations often implies a more streamlined, possibly self-check-in, or limited-hour front desk operation.
A critical point raised by customer reviews is the inconsistency of Wi-Fi. One guest explicitly stated, "The WiFi didn’t work and we had two kids so that was a big deal." This suggests that while Wi-Fi may be advertised or generally available, its reliability can be an issue. For guests who rely on internet access for work, entertainment, or communication, this is a significant factor to consider.
Other services, such as daily housekeeping or laundry facilities, are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. However, some sources indicate that housekeeping is typically provided "once per stay" in some of the specific "condo" units associated with "High Tide," suggesting a less frequent service than daily hotel cleaning. Given the focus on "basic" amenities, it is prudent for prospective guests to confirm any specific service requirements directly with the property before booking.
The features of High Tide's rooms are described as "pretty basic" and "nothing special" by customers, with some significant concerns about their condition. Key features mentioned include:
It appears High Tide may consist of individually managed or rented units, sometimes referred to as "condos" or "studio condos," which might explain variations in quality and amenities between different units. Some listings for "High Tide Studio #X Condo" mention features like a microwave, stovetop, and toaster, implying some units may have kitchenette facilities. Non-smoking rooms and air conditioning are generally available. Parking availability is limited and may vary. It is essential for guests to clarify the exact features of the specific unit they are booking.
The provided customer reviews do not include explicit promotional information for High Tide. However, the core "promotional" aspect of this property, particularly for those searching in the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, is its direct access to Rockaway Beach and the surrounding local attractions.
Given the negative feedback regarding value for money ("$400 per night which is insane considering what the place looks like" and "Definitely not worth the 800 I paid for two nights"), it is highly advisable for local users to compare prices carefully and consider the trade-offs between cost and comfort. If a stay at High Tide is being considered, potential guests should:
High Tide primarily appeals to a niche market of travelers for whom direct beach access and a vibrant local atmosphere are paramount, and who are willing to overlook potential shortcomings in room condition and amenities for the sake of location. While some reviews are critical, the location itself remains a strong draw for those seeking a genuine Rockaway Beach experience. Nov 16, 2024 · Tiffany SiedermanOkay place to stay.. room had no storage i.e wardrobe or chest.. Pretty basic, small fridge, no tv, good bathroom, blinds are rubbish but an eye mask will sort that out. Location pretty good, above a very excellent bbq place ( voted best in queens!). Yes they play music later but nothing a pair of earplugs can’t fix (these were provided!) :) Overall an okay place due to location. But nothing special
Sep 30, 2024 · ShivaniThere area rats around the property and it is adjacent to a low-security mental health facility that has some questionable characters hanging out around the property. The door was manually locked when I arrived and I had to wait almost 2 hours in the rain for someone that lived over 25 miles away to open the door. When I went to take a shower, there was no hot water and there was no hot water for the rest of the stay. When I turned on the heater, some disgusting black stuff was released and flew all over the room and my belongings. The place has some serious drug-den vibes and is located on top of a restaurant that plays live music until late. I asked the management company for a token refund amount to recognize these inconveniences and downright negligence and the property management company refused. Seriously- $25 would have been enough. There is no staff on premises and no one lives with 20 miles of the property to help you. Does this sound like a place you want to stay at?
May 02, 2024 · J FUNGI stayed here at the end of September 2023 for 10 days. The only reason I can even give this 1 star is because the bathroom was in excellent condition (recently updated & clean) and it’s close proximity to the beach. Beyond those two things I would NOT recommend staying here. The first night it took over an hour to get into my room (after the 30 minutes spent lost on the street trying to find the entrance since the signage was small & poorly illuminated & the description never mentioned that they are located above a bbq restaurant). When I finally found the room, the code didn’t work. The concierge gave me a new code which still didn’t work & various directions on how to jiggle the handle & pull the door. Finally they had to send the area manager to unlock it & she had to provide a key because she realized that both codes provided were no good. The window was stuck open without a screen & I had to email for 2 days before she came back out to fix it. The 2nd night I noticed a few roaches near the mini-fridge. After that I saw more in the room on at least 3 other occasions including crawling under the bed on my last night. Finally, beyond the loud music from the bbq restaurant under the room on some nights (the room has several sets of disposable earplugs) their smoker had a huge impact on my room. My clothes and even my face mask smelled like bbq smoke & nearly everyday the room was filled with a smoky haze. This left my eyes dry & burning & seriously aggravated my allergies. Everything I brought including a travel blanket wreaked of the smoky bbq smell when I returned home. I emailed the management agency about these concerns so they could adequately address them, but have yet to receive a response beyond, “we’ll look into it.”
Nov 10, 2023 · Alexandra CorkRoom OK; management terrible. Small but adequate rooms with fun quirky decor; great beach location. Room lock code didn't work, and I spent an hour trying to get the remote property manager to get me in; without access to email, I had no choice but to call the "emergency" number - 4 times - each time assured they'd pass the message on, but nobody got back to me. Absolutely infuriating start to my vacation. The room isn't cheap...for that price you have to take better care with customer service.
