Lovely theming and service. Very customer focused, plenty of free attractions like the museum bits. Expensive food but you’re at an airport so not out of the usual. Very nice spaces just to rest that anyone can access in between flights. I highly recommend a long layover in this building over any other at JFK!!
For local users and travelers seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" with a distinctive flair, the TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) provides an unparalleled experience that transcends typical airport lodging. Located at 1 Idlewild Dr, Queens, NY 11430, USA, this architectural marvel and historical landmark has been meticulously restored and reimagined as a full-service hotel. You can reach them at (212) 806-9000 or +1 212-806-9000.
The TWA Hotel's environment is its most striking feature. It is built within and around Eero Saarinen's iconic 1962 TWA Flight Center, a masterpiece of mid-century modern architecture. This provides an immediate sense of immersion in the glamour and optimism of the Jet Age. The curving lines, soaring ceilings, and expansive windows of the original terminal are preserved, creating a visually stunning and unique space that is both historic and refreshingly contemporary.
Being directly connected to Terminal 5 (JetBlue's terminal) at JFK Airport, the hotel offers ultimate convenience for air travelers. This direct connection via a retro red-carpeted flight tube means guests can easily transition from their flight to their room without needing to leave the airport premises. For access to other JFK terminals, the AirTrain provides a free, quick, and efficient connection, making the TWA Hotel accessible from any part of the airport. While the hotel is at JFK, its unique design and soundproofing ensure a peaceful retreat despite the proximity to active runways. In fact, many rooms offer thrilling views of planes taking off and landing, a feature particularly loved by aviation enthusiasts.
Beyond the terminal, the hotel’s external environment is that of a bustling international airport. However, the hotel itself has created several internal oases. The rooftop pool and observation deck, for example, offer panoramic views of JFK’s runways and even the Jamaica Bay, providing a serene yet exciting spot for plane spotting.
The TWA Hotel combines the efficiency expected of an airport hotel with a strong emphasis on customer service and unique, themed experiences. The front desk operates 24/7, with staff consistently praised for their friendliness, helpfulness, and customer-focused approach.
Key services and amenities include:
One customer review specifically highlighted "lovely theming and service" and "very customer focused," indicating a consistent effort by the staff to embody the hotel's unique concept while delivering excellent hospitality.
The TWA Hotel is replete with unique features that make it a destination in itself.
Architectural Marvel and Themed Design: The hotel’s core feature is its preservation of Saarinen's iconic terminal. This means guests are surrounded by mid-century modern design elements, including custom Knoll furniture, vintage rotary phones (which offer unlimited free local and international calls), and a generally retro-chic aesthetic. Each of the 512 guestrooms, housed in newly constructed buildings flanking the terminal, features ultra-quiet, floor-to-ceiling windows (among the thickest in the world) to ensure a peaceful stay despite being at an airport. Many rooms offer views of the historic terminal or active runways.
Culinary Experiences: The TWA Hotel offers a variety of dining and beverage options:
Recreational and Wellness Facilities:
While a past review mentioned issues with a humid room below the pool, the hotel generally maintains a high standard of comfort and offers soundproofed rooms to ensure a peaceful stay.
For local users seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" for various purposes, the TWA Hotel presents itself as a compelling option due to its unique blend of utility and experience.
It is highly recommended for:
While some food and drink prices are noted as "expensive" (which is common for airport locations), the overall value comes from the immersive experience and the range of amenities, including free attractions like the museum bits and the extensive fitness center. The hotel frequently runs promotions and offers "Daytripper℠" rates, allowing non-overnight guests to enjoy the pool and other facilities for a few hours, perfect for short layovers or a local "daycation." The TWA Hotel effectively positions itself not just as a place to sleep, but as a destination for discovery, relaxation, and a touch of mid-century glamour.

May 15, 2025 · George ReynalFun and nostalgic trip. If you are an aviation fan or historian it is definitely worth the trip down memory lane. The rooms are compact, but nice. Only knock is if you are on the floor right below the pool the room never got cold and felt very humid. Staff was friendly and definitely get a room facing JFK to watch the planes.
Apr 07, 2025 · James HeroldStayed here during an overnight layover at JFK. While the vintage theme and location are cool, the value doesn’t match the price mine was over $400 for the night. The room lacked basic amenities (no in-room coffee or tea, very limited toiletries), and you can’t even book a room in person. Even if you’re stranded at the airport, you have to go online to check availability and reserve, which makes no sense for a hotel inside the airport. You’re mostly paying for aesthetics and convenience not comfort or service.
May 14, 2025 · Nicolette SouffrantThis place is AMAZING. It lives up to/exceeds all expectations. The pool is wonderful. There are many places to sit, talk, and watch planes. Watching planes is more interesting than I imagined it would be. Our room faced the tarmac, and it was quieter than our room in Midtown. Highly recommend and will definitely return.
Apr 28, 2025 · Christa MasonAmazing destination hotel! We had a late flight so enjoyed our time for almost a full day. Staff were kind enough to hold our bags so we had freedom to fully explore. Dining options were great. The lobby has a variety of dining styles and options for casual dining, breakfast, coffee, desserts, and prepackaged items. We also ate at the Paris Lounge, a Jean George establishment, and had a wonderful experience. Make sure not to miss the actual airplane bar out on the tarmac! It's a historical building, which they are rightfully very proud of, but that means the rooms are a little snug. Very comfortable however. Gym is amazing! Biggest I've ever seen - larger than my home gym. Rooftop pool was amazing! Heated very well so it was comfortable even in February.
