This is a true diamond in the rough! The stay here was truly great. Beautiful, clean and safe hotel. Stayed for a few nights and gladly would again. It is in a rough neighborhood but don't let that deter you. The service was kind and great, the staff were informative and caring.

My boyfriend and I were visiting from the Midwest. We loved this hotel. It was convenient and walkable to so many things... we walked to the subway, parks, Yankee's stadium, dinner etc. We especially loved Jessica at the front desk! She was kind, knowledgeable, warm, and ready to give us so many recommendations in the area. She truly went above and beyond to connect with us throughout our stay. I am a young white woman from Wisconsin... I never felt unsafe in this hotel or walking around the Bronx. Sure, it's good to keep an eye out and be generally aware of your surroundings (especially on the subway!). However, the locals were warm, inviting, funny, communicative, and full of life. I loved the Taco Bell right down the street as well as the nail salon next door. My boyfriend and I went into the local bodega's and explored the parks that were very family friendly. & lastly - yes, this is a real review. The reservation was made under my boyfriend's name, however - I love to review places I travel, especially if their customer service goes above and beyond. Thank you Jessica for treating us so kindly on our trip!

Great rooms and privacy. Clean and comfortable, bathrooms were clean, and showers were hot! The location was awesome for us, and we'll definitely be back! Full on recommend!

The Melrose Hotel is a diamond in the rough. The hotel itself was safe and clean, with 24/7 front desk security and a strong surveillance system. The front desk staff was kind and helpful and the cleaning staff was consistent and thorough. We stayed for a week and enjoyed the hotel. Having a private bathroom this close to Manhattan and for this price was a great combination. The surrounding area can be well described as "active" with many street vendors and sketchy people around, however we never had any issues or felt truly in danger despite sticking out in the crowd. Not sure I could recommend this hotel. No coffee maker and a very small ironing board. We were waiting on a lyft and a local came by and asked us if we were ok. She was so kind but said that there are much closer hotel to the stadium. She said it was a rough part of town but people keep to themselves. Would NOT recommend this to families. I did not feel safe walking even though I called ahead and asked if it was safe to walk around.
