I stayed here 27Apr-09May and enjoyed the room experience and the AM breakfast offered. The AM bar/breakfast staff were always pleasant and friendly. I also found the room attendants to be friendly and they did an excellent job as I returned from the office daily to a clean room with fresh linen. Although some reviews said there was a lot of street noise, I did not find it difficult to sleep during my two-week stay. I would say that the hotel leadership needs to be more engaged with the guests and that they also need to ensure ALL those working the check-in desk provide a customer focused, attentive, and friendly experience as I did not experience this with each employee with whom I interacted at the check-in desk. That said, overall a good experience and also excellent location. I do recommend and would stay at the Moxy downtown Boston again.
For locals in Boston searching for "Hotels Near Me" that offer a fresh, contemporary, and energetic vibe, the Moxy Boston Downtown at 240 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02116, USA, is a compelling choice. This hotel, part of Marriott's Moxy brand, is known for its playful spirit and stylish, minimalist design, making it a favorite among those who appreciate a modern aesthetic and a social atmosphere. Its prime location in the Theater District ensures guests are never far from the city's entertainment, cultural landmarks, and dining scene.
Let's take a detailed look at what the Moxy Boston Downtown offers, encompassing its environment, services, features, and some crucial information regarding pricing and promotions, based on available online data and real guest experiences.
Environment and Ambiance: Modern, Playful, and Quietly Comfortable
The Moxy Boston Downtown distinguishes itself with a distinctly "modern vib." The design emphasizes smart, compact spaces in the rooms and vibrant, communal areas. The lobby, often referred to as a "Living Room," is designed to be a central hub for interaction and fun, with features like a bar that doubles as the check-in desk, creating an immediate social atmosphere. Despite its central location and lively communal spaces, guests have reported that the rooms themselves are "very quiet," allowing for undisturbed sleep. One guest specifically noted that they "did not find it difficult to sleep" during a two-week stay, even with street noise. This suggests effective soundproofing and a thoughtful approach to guest comfort within a dynamic urban setting. The overall environment aims to be both inspiring and comfortable, appealing to those who appreciate a trendy yet functional stay.
Room Features and Comfort: Smart Design in Compact Spaces
Moxy hotels are known for their "small but smart rooms," typically around 185 square feet, maximizing functionality and style within a compact footprint. Guests have generally enjoyed the "room experience," finding the beds comfortable and the rooms clean. While one guest noted the towels were "too small," they also acknowledged that the front desk was "very attentive to bring us more," indicating a willingness to address guest needs. Rooms are equipped with "smart TVs with cable channels and streaming services," providing ample entertainment options, which is a significant plus. Other practical amenities include air conditioning, blackout curtains, rainfall showerheads in private bathrooms, and a hairdryer. For those traveling with infants, free cribs/infant beds are available upon request. The presence of a "vent fan" that can be kept on helps to mask the sound of the air conditioner cycling, contributing to a more continuous sleep environment.
Services and Hospitality: Attentive Staff, with Room for Growth at Check-in
The service at Moxy Boston Downtown receives mixed but generally positive feedback. Guests consistently commend the "AM bar/breakfast staff" for being "always pleasant and friendly." Similarly, "room attendants" are described as "friendly" and doing "an excellent job" in maintaining cleanliness daily. This suggests a strong performance from the service teams responsible for daily guest interactions and room upkeep. However, one detailed review points out that "hotel leadership needs to be more engaged with the guests" and that "ALL those working the check-in desk provide a customer focused, attentive, and friendly experience" as this was not consistently experienced. While some found the front desk "very attentive," this indicates an area where the hotel could enhance consistency in guest welcoming. Overall, the hospitality from the majority of staff contributes to a "good experience."
Features and Amenities: Beyond the Room
The Moxy Boston Downtown offers a range of appealing features that extend beyond the individual guest rooms:
Location and Accessibility: At the Epicenter of Boston
The hotel's address at 240 Tremont St puts it in an "excellent location," particularly for those looking to immerse themselves in Boston's entertainment and historical offerings. It's described as a "great location to theaters and Boston Common," making it ideal for theater-goers and those wishing to explore the city's iconic green spaces and historical sites. Major attractions are easily accessible by walking. Furthermore, its proximity to public transport hubs ensures convenient access to other parts of the city. Hotel parking is available "very close by for an excellent rate," which is a significant advantage in downtown Boston where parking can be challenging and expensive. Self-parking is off-site, and there's a fee of approximately $40 per night for nearby parking.
Promotional Information and Pricing Considerations: Navigating the Destination Fee
Like many hotels in Boston, the Moxy Boston Downtown charges a "destination fee" or "resort fee" of approximately $35 per accommodation, per night. This fee is in addition to the room rate and is payable at check-in. While sometimes this fee includes certain credits or amenities, the general sentiment among guests regarding such fees across Boston is often negative, perceiving it as an added, non-transparent cost. However, some past guests have reported that the fee included a food and beverage credit (e.g., $25), which could be used at the bar for breakfast or drinks. It is important to confirm the current inclusions of this destination fee upon booking, as these may change. For specific promotional offers, discounts (such as AAA, corporate, government/military, AARP), or packages, it is always recommended to check the official Moxy Hotels website or popular booking platforms. Rates for standard rooms typically range from $149-$699 (USD), with suites starting from $199-$799 (USD), varying based on seasonality and demand.
In conclusion, the Moxy Boston Downtown offers a distinctive and appealing option for locals searching "Hotels Near Me" or for visitors seeking a vibrant and convenient stay in Boston. Its modern design, lively communal areas, comfortable if compact rooms, and excellent location near theaters and Boston Common make it a strong contender. While the consistency of front desk service and the presence of a destination fee are points to note, the overall positive reviews regarding cleanliness, dedicated breakfast/bar staff, and overall ambiance suggest that the Moxy Boston Downtown delivers a "good experience" and is a hotel many guests would choose to return to.

May 15, 2025 路 E TStayed here for 2 nights. Great location to theaters and Boston Common. Loved the modern vib. The avocado toast was amazing. Had it both mornings. Room was very quiet. We kept the vent fan on so the air conditioner coming on and off didn't wake us. My only complaint was that the towels are too small. The front desk was very attentive to bring us more, but they're just too small for me. However this wouldn't prevent me from staying here again. Hotel parking is very close by for an excellent rate. We will be back. 馃榿
Apr 24, 2025 路 Lynn OppenheimThe hotel is very cute but do not recommend for business travel (no iron, fridge only available up in request, no coffee maker/tea in room, no closet only three hangers, not a good spot to spread out luggage). The bathroom was really nice, the bed was comfortable. Would recommend for a solo or maybe a couple visiting Boston without large luggage. It's in a great location. Check in is on the 2nd floor
May 17, 2025 路 Toni FThe rooms are very small and minimalistic. There is a lot of unpainted concrete both in the rooms and in the lobby giving it a feel of a confinement facility. The employees were nice. You are forced to buy a 40 dollar voucher to spend on overpriced items at the nearby bar/mini-mart in the lobby as part of their "destination fee". It is also very loud in the hotel at night as there is a bar across the street although they do give you earplugs. The location is great but there's way better hotels in the area for comparable prices
May 19, 2025 路 Blake MaIt's a very well located downtown Boston hotel, but due to that location, it's noisy! They provided hearing protection, and although I'm a good sleeper, I used them. The room, while small, was modern and clean, and the bed was comfortable. It's a well designed hotel, looking very chic. I didn't use any of the facilities, as I was out and about most of the time, but a hot shower, a nice TV, and comfy bed was all I needed.
