Wow. Can’t believe this hotel is a Hilton. The ballrooms are absolutely stunning but that is where the compliments end. Rooms are small, tired and dated. The housekeeping staff knocked on our door at 930, even with the do not disturb sign on, to ask when we were checking out. There was a couple in the elevator that had gotten keys to two rooms that were occupied by someone else. Staff were protesting outside at 7am. This place is a trash pit. DO NOT STAY HERE.
The establishment referred to as "Park Place Hotel" in the provided information is, in fact, the Hilton Boston Park Plaza. This historic and expansive hotel, located at 50 Park Plaza, Boston, MA 02116, USA, holds a significant place in Boston's hospitality landscape. Operating under the renowned Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand since October 31, 2023, it stands as a prominent option within the 'Hotels Near Of Me' category for those exploring the city. Opened originally in 1927 as "The Statler Hotel," it was designed as a "city within a city" and has undergone various transformations and renovations to maintain its status as a grand American hotel.
Environment: A Grand Historic Presence in a Prime Location
The Hilton Boston Park Plaza is housed in a magnificent building that dates back to 1927, making it one of Boston's most historic hotels. Its architecture reflects the grandeur of its era, with stately facades and impressive interiors. The hotel's ballroom areas, in particular, are frequently described as "absolutely stunning," showcasing timeless elegance suitable for large-scale events and celebrations. While the hotel is rooted in history, it strives to balance this heritage with contemporary updates.
The hotel's location at 50 Park Plaza is exceptionally central and convenient. It is situated in Boston's downtown area, bordering the Theater District and within easy walking distance of numerous key attractions. The Public Garden and Boston Common, offering expansive green spaces for relaxation, are just steps away. The upscale boutiques, art galleries, and diverse dining options of Newbury Street are also within a short stroll. Other major points of interest nearby include Beacon Hill, the Charles River Esplanade, and the vibrant shopping and entertainment hub of the Prudential Center. Its proximity to public transportation, including the MBTA's Arlington and Boylston stations, makes exploring other parts of Boston, such as Fenway Park or the North End, easily accessible. The hotel's surroundings offer a blend of historic charm, bustling urban life, and serene green spaces, catering to a wide range of visitor interests.
Services: Extensive Offerings with Mixed Guest Experiences
As a large, full-service hotel, the Hilton Boston Park Plaza offers an extensive array of amenities and services. The hotel provides a 24-hour reception, concierge services, and valet parking, which, while typically incurring a surcharge, adds convenience in a dense urban area. The hotel also caters to both leisure and business travelers with services such as a business center and substantial meeting and event facilities. With over 70,000 square feet of event space, including 40 meeting rooms and grand ballrooms, it is a significant venue for conferences, conventions, and weddings. On-site catering and an experienced event planning team are available to facilitate functions of all sizes.
Dining options within the hotel include Off the Common, a lobby bar and restaurant serving New England-inspired cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. MJ O'Connors is a quintessential Irish pub offering comfort food and a wide selection of beverages, often with a lively atmosphere. A Starbucks is also on-site for coffee and quick bites. Room service is available for guests who prefer to dine in the comfort of their rooms.
For wellness, the hotel features a 24-hour fitness center, which includes a golf simulator and sometimes offers classes like yoga. Pets are allowed on request, though charges and size limits may apply. Wi-Fi access is provided, though sometimes it may be available for a fee in rooms but free in common areas. Luggage storage, laundry service, and accessibility features are also part of the hotel's offerings.
However, recent customer reviews indicate that while the hotel provides a wide range of services, the consistency of delivery can vary. Some guests have reported issues such as staff protesting outside, occupied rooms being assigned to new guests, and housekeeping staff knocking on doors with "Do Not Disturb" signs. These instances suggest that while the framework for excellent service is present, the execution might sometimes fall short of the high standards expected from a Hilton-affiliated luxury hotel. Guests have also expressed mixed opinions on staff friendliness, with some finding them competent while others noted perceived annoyance.
Features: Historic Charm and Functional Accommodations
The Hilton Boston Park Plaza comprises a large number of guest rooms and suites, totaling over 1,000, which reflects its status as a major hotel. The rooms are designed to offer comfort and functionality, though reviews suggest a mixed experience regarding their aesthetics and condition. While some areas of the hotel, particularly the ballrooms and lobby, are "stunning" and reflect its historic grandeur, individual guest rooms have been described by some as "small, tired and dated." However, other guests have found them "very comfortable," suggesting that recent renovations in some areas may not be uniformly applied across all room types.
Standard room amenities typically include comfortable bedding with plush options, flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, and a telephone. Bathrooms usually feature a shower/tub combination and basic toiletries. Some rooms may include blackout curtains, closets, refrigerators, and soundproofing for a more peaceful stay. Hypoallergenic bedding is also available in certain rooms. Suites offer more space, often with separate living areas. The hotel's historic nature means that room layouts and sizes can vary, and some guests have specifically mentioned "super-small bathrooms" or "cramped layouts" in certain room types, particularly the "Wicked Small Room" which is explicitly named for its compact size. This variability in room condition and size is important for potential guests to note.
Despite some of these challenges, the hotel's grand communal spaces, including the beautiful lobby with its striking chandelier, remain a significant feature. The sheer scale and historical significance of the building itself are notable features that contribute to the overall experience, especially for those who appreciate classic hotel architecture.
Promotional Information: Exploring Opportunities and Understanding Expectations
As part of the Hilton brand, the Hilton Boston Park Plaza often participates in various promotional campaigns and loyalty programs common to the Hilton portfolio. Guests searching under 'Hotels Near Of Me' can typically find offers through the official Hilton website or by contacting the hotel directly at (617) 379-7129 or +1 617-379-7129. These promotions may include discounts for Hilton Honors members, package deals that bundle accommodation with dining credits or experiences, or special rates for extended stays or advance bookings. Given its substantial event space, the hotel also frequently offers packages for corporate meetings, conventions, and social events, including wedding blocks.
While the hotel's extensive amenities and prime location are strong selling points, it's advisable for prospective guests to carefully manage expectations regarding room aesthetics based on recent reviews. Understanding the specific room type being booked (e.g., "Wicked Small Room" if offered) and checking recent guest feedback can help ensure a satisfying stay. For those prioritizing a central location, historical ambiance, and access to significant event facilities, the Hilton Boston Park Plaza remains a considerable option in Boston's competitive hotel market.

Oct 06, 2024 · Timothy Ericson (Tim)Good service and vibes. Feels slightly dated, but the location is great and the surrounding area is very charming.
Mar 06, 2025 · David RoseI had a conference here and stayed for 4 days. The good part is that the staff was nice and attentive. We got to the room and found there were only a few hangers. Next time we were in the lobby, we asked if we could get more hangers. We came back to hangers thrown on the bed. For a hotel that we paid almost $300.00 per night on a group rate, it is tired and has deferred maintenance. It is hard to see in the picture but the ironing board was old and had part of the metal sticking up. This ruined a nice piece of my wife’s clothes. The on premise work out room is a full service public gym. The good part is that there is a lot of equipment. The downside is that there are a lot of people. I like to work out early at 5:00am. The don’t open until 6:00am which mad it difficult to work out and make the conference on time. On Saturday I wanted to work out before leaving only to find out after getting ready that it doesn’t open until 7:00am. As you might expect, food at the hotel is very expensive. Not a really bad experience but not what I expected for the cost.
Jul 02, 2023 · Eric OlmstedToilet had urine in on it, luckily I had lysol wipes with me. The sink and the shower were clogged and water would not drain properly. The bed was super hard and not at all comfortable. Staff were nice and welcoming and the internet was fast!
Apr 03, 2024 · JaykiyaA nice hotel in the middle of Boston. We had the "wicked small queen" and it made our trip to Boston affordable and was only a 25-minute walk from Amtrak.
