Hotel is in a great location and they were very friendly to our dog, but unfortunately, we experienced something that I hope nobody else has to go through. We were checking out of our hotel with our dog with our car keys nowhere to be found. We had both of our keys in a takeout bag that was next to the coffee maker the night before. When housekeeping came, they accidentally threw the bag away along with our keys. Our car is a keyless push start and the locksmith that we called had to modify our car alarm system to get in to make new keys. It cost us $650 and several hours of missed work. After contacting management, they claimed to have "investigated" and told us that it was not their responsibility. Additionally, when we checking out, we stored luggage with the hotel because we couldn't access our car and they, again, mistook one of our bags with trash. They couldn't find our last bag because it was still in the room, inside of trash bags. At this point it was 7pm... After speaking to management, they said that this is a normal occurrence and that housekeeping thought it was trash, which should not be a normal occurrence to think this twice with one guest or any at all. The trash that we had during our stay was placed by the door to indicate that it was trash. Something next to the coffee maker with things still inside was not trash. After this horrible and stressful experience, we were expecting a different response from the hotel management as the management told us to bring them the invoice, but nothing has been done as they claim they are not responsible for this. Very disappointed as Back Bay residents who were temporarily displaced from their home. If you stay here, please keep all your belongings in your bags or watch them very closely or they might end up in the trash.

However, it's important to acknowledge a significant concern raised in a customer review. One guest reported a distressing experience where hotel housekeeping accidentally disposed of their car keys and a bag they were storing with the hotel, mistaking them for trash. The management's response, claiming this was a "normal occurrence" and not their responsibility, caused considerable disappointment and inconvenience, including a $650 cost for new car keys and lost work hours. This review highlights a critical service issue regarding handling guest belongings and accountability that potential guests should be aware of. While another review praised the "incredible service" and "friendly" staff, this specific incident suggests an inconsistency in service execution or a policy that could significantly impact a guest's experience.
Hotel AKA Back Bay's recent reimagining in 2024 by Selldorf Architects has transformed its spaces, emphasizing "understated elegance" and "warm, residential touches." The hotel aims to blend the "comforts of home" with "thoughtful hotel luxuries."
Key features include:
While a positive review highlighted the "excellent ease of use features" in the rooms and found them "lovely, clean and cozy," the negative review regarding room service and housekeeping suggests that while the features are well-designed, operational consistency is crucial. The room sizes can also vary, and in one instance, a guest found their room "very cramped" with "very little natural light."

May 19, 2025 · Erika Lopez-TorresOne of my favorite hotels across all the cities I visit. The rooms have excellent ease of use features: - Outlets everywhere - Full room light control from the bed, door, bathroom - Shower has separate controls for water flow and temperature, set your temp to what you like and never lose it On top of this, the service is incredible. Using their no-install web app allows you to have the pillow of your choice delivered to your door, aromatherapy, and weighted blankets. The location is perfect as well. Grill 23 is right across the street for hands down the best steak in Boston, and you are a short walk from an amazing amount of shops, restaurants, and things to do. The Assistant Manager, Ryan, is an incredible individual who truly cares for every person at the location- staff and guests. Highly recommended, AKA has made me a raving fan.

Mar 22, 2025 · Tommy NguyenWe were treated exceptionally well after a horrible experience with a VRBO we had that same afternoon. Daniel and Giber gave us 200% personal attention for the 4 nights we stayed at hotelaka. It was beyond anything we expected. All of the staff treated us beyond expectations. We recommend this hotel, it’s staff and the restaurant to all.

The staff is awesome (shout out Laki'sha who is always super friendly and welcoming), the rooms are nice with great amenities and recently renovated, and the hotel itself is in a great location. We'll keep coming back for all future travels to Boston!
