Writing a review just to give anyone some peace of mind if they need it- We had booked this hotel a couple months ago for the Kentucky Derby and it seemed to have okayish reviews but we wanted to stay on the cheaper end as prices for hotels this weekend were skyrocketed. A day before our scheduled stay, I saw multiple reviews for bed bugs and cigarette smoke-smelling/dirty rooms but we had agreed to a no cancellation policy. I was very fearful and had low expectations upon arrival (was prepared to sleep in the car if needed), but to our surprise, the rooms were very clean! Did not smell dirty or like cigarette smoke in the slightest. Also, we did a pretty thorough check for bed bugs and did not see any signs of bed bugs or a single bug in the room for both of our nights stayed. Definitely not a 5 star hotel (no breakfast, door entry is outside access leading to some safety concerns for young women) and maybe we got lucky with our room number placement, but was not how the negative reviews made it out to be! Also had a mini fridge and more spacious than the pictures looked online. Location seemed a little sketchy but we had no issues at all and it is a close uber to downtown.

The Red Roof Inn Louisville Fair And Expo is strategically located to serve visitors to key Louisville destinations. It is approximately six miles southeast of downtown Louisville and boasts easy access to major thoroughfares like I-264 (the Watterson Expressway). This makes it highly convenient for reaching locations such as the Kentucky Exposition Center, which is a significant hub for conventions, trade shows, and events, and the Louisville International Airport (SDF), located just about two miles away. Other notable attractions like Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, and the Louisville Zoo are also within a short driving distance, typically less than 10 minutes.
The immediate environment around the hotel, described as being in the Watterson Park area, offers proximity to various dining options. Guests can find places for quick meals or sit-down dinners within a reasonable distance. For example, the Colonel Sanders Museum is very close by. However, guest reviews present mixed perceptions of the surrounding area, with some describing the location as "a little sketchy." Despite this, many guests report having "no issues at all" during their stay, particularly noting its convenience for Uber rides to downtown. The hotel itself features exterior corridor access to rooms, which for some, raises safety concerns, especially for young women traveling alone. The property underwent its most recent renovation in 2012.
Red Roof Inn Louisville Fair And Expo focuses on providing essential services that cater to budget-conscious travelers. A key offering is complimentary Verified Wi-Fi access throughout the property, ensuring guests can stay connected. Rooms also come with a free expanded cable package featuring channels like HBO, providing entertainment options.
The hotel offers a 24-hour front desk, ensuring that staff are available to assist guests at any time. While there is no complimentary hot breakfast, free coffee is available in the lobby. For guest convenience, there is a guest coin laundry facility on-site, which is particularly useful for longer stays. Vending machines are also available for snacks and beverages.
A significant service offered is the pet-friendly policy. The hotel allows up to two pets (dogs and cats) per room, with the first pet staying free and a charge of $15 per night for the second pet, up to a maximum of $105 per stay. Service animals are exempt from fees. This is a considerable advantage for travelers with pets. The hotel also provides free self-parking for guests, with limited bus/truck parking available. Daily housekeeping is typically provided, although some guests report limited cleaning for stayover guests, so it's advisable to check at the front desk upon arrival for current details.
The staff receives mixed reviews; while some guests commend them as "helpful" and "amazing," others have reported negative experiences, particularly regarding handling of complaints about room conditions, with staff allegedly being dismissive. The hotel requires a $50 refundable credit card deposit at check-in and does not accept cash payments for reservations. Early check-in and late check-out options are available for an additional fee, subject to availability.
The Red Roof Inn Louisville Fair And Expo features 110 air-conditioned rooms spread across three floors. The rooms are designed to be functional and provide basic comfort. Each room includes a flat-screen television with cable programming, and complimentary wireless internet access. Many rooms also feature a mini-fridge and a microwave, which are valuable amenities for storing food and preparing simple meals, particularly for guests on extended trips or those looking to save on dining costs. Some room types, designated as 'Superior' or 'Deluxe,' specifically list these amenities as standard.
Bathrooms in the rooms typically have a shower/tub combination and include complimentary toiletries. Other conveniences often found in rooms include a desk and laptop-compatible safe. Rooms are 100% smoke-free, which is a key feature for many guests. Despite being a budget hotel, some reviews mention rooms being "more spacious than the pictures looked online."
However, guest feedback on cleanliness is notably inconsistent. While some recent reviews praise the rooms as "very clean" and without unpleasant odors, others report significant issues, including the presence of bed bugs and general dirtiness, with visible stains. This suggests that the condition and cleanliness can vary considerably between individual rooms. The hotel, having undergone a renovation in 2012, aims to provide a modern experience within its budget segment, but the execution of maintenance and cleaning appears to be a point of varied guest experience.
Red Roof Inn Louisville Fair And Expo primarily promotes itself as a value-driven hotel, offering competitive rates, especially during high-demand periods like the Kentucky Derby week, where hotels typically see skyrocketed prices. Its affordability combined with its strategic location near major event venues is a key selling point. The hotel is an excellent option for those attending events at the Kentucky Exposition Center, including annual events like the Mid America Trucking Show, the National Farm Machinery Show, and the Kentucky State Fair, or for sports enthusiasts visiting Churchill Downs or the KFC Yum! Center.
Promotions often highlight its proximity to family-friendly attractions such as the Louisville Zoo and Kentucky Kingdom Theme & Water Park, both just a few miles away. The pet-friendly policy is a significant promotional advantage for travelers with animals, as finding accommodations that welcome pets at an affordable price can be challenging. The complimentary Wi-Fi and free parking further enhance the value proposition for guests.
While acknowledging the mixed reviews regarding cleanliness and the exterior access, the hotel's core offering focuses on providing a practical, no-frills stay with essential amenities at a competitive price. Travelers searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" who prioritize budget and location convenience for Louisville's major attractions may find Red Roof Inn Louisville Fair And Expo a suitable option, particularly if they manage expectations regarding luxury and are prepared to confirm room conditions upon check-in.

May 04, 2025 · NoelIf I could give it 0 stars I would. I have absolute nothing positive to say about this dump. We saw a review mentioning bed bugs 2 days before we arrived. Sure enough, the first room the gave us had bed bugs. We immediately went to staff who dismissed us saying we were overreacting. They refused to refund us and gave us a different room. At first we didn’t see any bugs, but soon enough my husband noticed his legs itching, only to see a bug crawling across the bed. Staff was the worst i have ever met. This place should be condemned. So disgusting. After further looking at reviews, it appears bed bugs in a common theme at this place, and staff does nothing to fix the problem and instead insults the guests. I will never stay at a Red Roof Inn again. We currently have an investigation going on with PayPal to get our money back.
Apr 14, 2025 · Lindsey KotWouldn't stay here again. Not the best location and doesn't seem to attract the best clientel in town with it being one of the cheaper properties in the area. Rooms were an okay size but the beds are on the smaller side. Our main problem was that our toilet didn't work properly and when we asked the staff to help they weren't able to fix it properly so suggested that we just didn't use it too much...not really a good enough response!
Apr 16, 2025 · Rachael StevensStayed in this place Sunday night, reserved online however I was asked for 50$ deposit, when I checked out asked my deposit I was told to wait up to 14 days to be process, reached out after a week due to not seeing it, I was told to wait at least 14 days, two weeks after I called, I was asked for the date of my stayed and was told I damaged the room. Like how do they even know who or what room I was in by only asking the date? Short story I was denied of my deposit. The person who answered was very rude he said to stop calling because they had taken photos, demanded the photos they supposedly had! By then the person said whatever you not getting your money back. I was better stayed at a luxury stay rather than this place. SCAMMER AT ITS FINEST! THIS SHOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW.
Mar 03, 2025 · Metro TmobileBED BUGS BED BUGS. MANAGEMENT ARE LIARS. Worst hotel I've ever stayed at in my life. We saw a review a few days prior about bed bugs, so upon arrival we inspected our room. Yep, infested. Old blood and bed bug shells, dead bedbugs all over under the beds. We let the front desk know who was EXTREMELY rude - she went to the room with me, and we inspected it together. She says "your wife is overreacting, these are not bed bugs, these are just bugs". And cleaning them off the bed WITH HER BARE HANDS. Lady look at the picture again, 100% bed bugs. She refuses to give us our money back saying it's up to Expedia, Expedia says it's up to her. Both lie about it and refuse to refund us, only give us a new room. We get a new room, I inspect it and don't see any bugs right away. Aside from the broken refrigerator, the bathroom door that doesn't shut, and an air conditioner that doesn't work, And an extremely rude worker. I saw no bed bugs - until I woke up to an itch the day we were leaving at 5am. I immediately wake up and rip the sheets off and turn on my phone light. There's a little red bugger running for his life under the sheets. 100$ in new clothes, bed bug supplies and trash bags later after a Walmart run, we are now home fumigating our garage, heat treating our things, and freezing anything else to hopefully prevent a hitchhiker. This place sucks. DO NOT STAY HERE. We now have an open case for a charge back through PayPal because this place REFUSED to give us our money back so we can leave and get a different hotel. I should have just left anyways and put the 400$ as a loss. I WANT MY MONEY BACK RED ROOF INN.
