We came to stay here during Bourbon and Beyond festival and spent 4 days/nights. We were very happy with our super clean, beautiful room. The hotel is gorgeous and new and up to date in every way. The food options are really good as well. I had a blast playing slots late at night when the hotel was empty and did pretty good with winning. It was nice to have a smoking area, I don't smoke but I do vape so I visited a few times, I do wish it wasn't so super hot in that room in there, I think their working on it because there are fans in there. I always wish there was an area just for vapers so we didn't have to smell like an ashtray. Lol. Otherwise, they had live music at the large bar, nice staff, friendly and we had a lot of fun. We have discussed staying again already! Loved our stay! Oh and they have a shuttle that takes you places which is super awesome. We felt very safe in the area, secure in the parking lot, and had not a worry the whole time. If you are interested it is right next to were they groom and train horses, I went out one morning and had coffee by the fence and the guys grooming the horses had a fun friendly conversation with me about the horses. Really fun to watch them run the track from my window early mornings.

Apr 16, 2025 · KarliePretty solid spot overall. Been here a handful of times now since it's convenient off Poplar Level. It's usually pretty clean inside, definitely one of the nicer looking gaming places around here, feels modern. They've got a ton of machines, good variety, and the atmosphere is generally lively which is fun. Staff have mostly been friendly when I've needed something, and getting complimentary drinks while you're playing is a definite plus. Like a lot of these places the machines can feel kinda tight sometimes, don't go in expecting to hit a huge jackpot easy. Also, the smoke situation... even in the non-smoking areas, you can still kinda smell it drifting over sometimes, which isn't ideal if you're sensitive. Haven't stayed at the hotel but it looks nice from the outside. All in all, it's a good local option if you wanna try your luck for a few hours and have some fun. Decent place to hang out, just manage your expectations on winnings and be aware of the smoke factor. Parking's usually not too bad either.
Apr 14, 2025 · Debbie McGeeYa know, I started out having a low opinion of this place. It really wasn't the best when it came to the fact that we'd already frequented Caesars & the French Lick casinos in Indiana. My wife was immediately put off by the fact that the coffee machines on that first initial visit didn't work. My opinion had begun to improve though as I frequented more. The games are fun, there's a vibe in the atmosphere, and especially Derby night had a certain charge about it. But ya know what? I think I've also LOST more money to Derby City than any other gaming ctr I've frequented. The slots, especially on weekends seem rather tight, and the wins (even small ones) are less frequent here than any other place. I've had some luck, and I realize the house always wins... but even at Caesars on a smalk budget, I always walk away with *some* decent winnings. Can't count how many times I've left Derby City without a single dollar in my pocket. Enjoy the free drink stations, the atmosphere, the selection of games... don't enjoy not getting to enjoy any winnings.
May 17, 2025 · Ed Snyder-BlackI have now visited the downtown location as well as Poplar Level. I just spent a night this past week at the hotel at the Poplar Level location. The hotel is really, really nice. It's new and gorgeous. Decor is spot on and if you love horses/horse racing you will love it even more. One of the nicest casino rooms I have stayed at in the Midwest. A couple of hotel comments which irritated me during the stay: the wall unit temperature control is monitored and you don't have full control. It would not allow me to make the room cooler then 70 degrees. I called down to the from desk twice and both times they said "we will have someone adjust/look at it for you (remotely...not having to come into the room)." Problem was never fixed and it was stuffy in there and not to my liking. Also, if you go down to gamble in the morning your room key automatically shuts off at 11 a.m. You will not be allowed to enter the elevator and go back up to your room at 11:01 a.m. on check out day. Imagine losing hundreds of dollars and then not being able to go back up. This was annoying to several guests as we had to go to the front desk to request another key or whatever. The casino at Poplar Level: new and nice...but...lame. Zero table games. All slot machines are a little older or not the best version out there. For instance, "Huff and More Puff" was the only version on the floor. Anyone who gambles knows this is THE hottest game right now and has like 5 versions that are better then this one. Also, if you like video poker...this is not your place. They have a total of 4 (four????) single line poker machines in one area. Two are .25 cent denom and the other two are $1 denom. BORING. I really like the hotel but I'm not traveling back from out of state with this selection of gaming. Slots were super tight. I didn't see one hand pay taking place in the 6 plus hours I was there. This review rating does not take this in to factor, but, something to note. Downtown location is small but seemed more fun when I visited for a few hours.
Apr 29, 2025 · TADD PIZZAWe came in May 9th for our 34th anniversary weekend. Upon checking in, the desk manager bumped our room to a king corner suite at no extra charge and said "happy anniversary". The room, staff & overall experience of our stay was phenomenal!! Just wanted to thank all there that made our stay more than we had expected.
