It was a weird little hotel! It was very hot in Chicago. It was one quick night! The A/C struggled really bad, but I stayed. The shade didnt close fully on the window so it was like 6 inches short! I paid using a website and should have spent more time looking but I was tired. The pictures make it look nicer than it is. They asked for a $100 credit hold or cash. I stayed and left early.
For many residents of Illinois, finding a quick, last-minute, or budget-friendly place to stay in the Chicago suburbs can be a necessity, whether for a quick overnight trip or as a stopover during a long journey. The Red Roof Inn in Morton Grove is one such option that often appears on third-party booking sites due to its recognizable name and competitive pricing. This hotel is located in a busy suburban corridor, making it a potentially convenient choice for those who need a place to stay with little notice. However, as with any budget-conscious choice, it's important for local users to set their expectations and understand the full picture before booking. This overview aims to provide a factual, balanced perspective on what to expect from a stay at this particular establishment.
The atmosphere and guest experience at the Red Roof Inn Morton Grove are described in public reviews as being highly variable. Some guests may find the hotel to be a simple, quick stop that meets their basic needs for a night. Other reviews, however, paint a more concerning picture, with guests expressing a lack of a feeling of safety, issues with cleanliness, and a general impression that the hotel is more run-down than its online pictures suggest. These reports often mention strong odors, poor soundproofing, and a clientele that can make some guests feel uncomfortable. The hotel has been noted to have exterior corridors, which is a key structural element that can influence the overall feeling of a property. For locals considering this hotel, understanding that the experience may not align with typical expectations of a more expensive, full-service hotel is crucial.
The Red Roof Inn Morton Grove is situated at 9424 Waukegan Rd, Morton Grove, IL 60053, USA. This location places it on a major thoroughfare in a well-established Chicago suburb. The proximity to Waukegan Road means that the hotel is surrounded by a variety of businesses, including restaurants, gas stations, and shopping centers, providing a practical base for travelers.
While the location is in a residential and commercial area, some public reviews suggest that the immediate surroundings might not feel entirely safe, particularly at night. This is a point of consideration for locals who are familiar with the area or for those traveling with family. The hotel's location offers a tradeoff: it is easily accessible and close to a variety of services, which is a major convenience, but its environment may not be to everyone's liking. It is also worth noting that the hotel is in close proximity to Chicago O'Hare International Airport, which could be an advantage for travelers who need a place to stay before or after a flight. It is recommended that potential guests with questions or concerns about the hotel's policies, especially regarding payment and cancellations, contact the hotel directly before booking through any third-party service.
The Red Roof Inn Morton Grove may be suitable for a very specific type of local traveler: one who is looking for the absolute lowest price point and is willing to overlook potential issues with cleanliness, safety, and comfort. For an Illinois resident, this hotel is not a destination for a relaxing getaway or a family vacation. Instead, it might serve as a last resort for an emergency, an unplanned overnight stop, or for a traveler who is very familiar with budget hotels and knows what to expect. The hotel’s location on a major road is convenient, but the numerous guest reports of unpleasant experiences, from safety concerns to poor maintenance and unhelpful customer service for payment issues, make it a hotel to approach with caution. For locals, a stay here should be seen as a necessary transaction rather than a pleasant experience, and it is strongly advised that they weigh the cost savings against the potential for an uncomfortable or even unsafe stay. Learning from the experiences of other customers is essential when considering this particular option.

Jun 27, 2025 · Mark HawleyMy son and I are currently on a cross country road trip, and we saw this place on hotels.com. I had already booked a room hours before arriving. Right off the bat, we pulled up to this place and were disgusted. A guy, who I assumed was living there long term, was rapping loudly while ignoring his 2 year old who was playing in the parking lot unattended, touching dirty stuff on the ground. Seemed like the guy could have been on drugs. We checked in, starting walking up to where our room was and instantly smelled urine in the hallways walking upstairs. The floors were disgusting and walls looked gross. Someone left a vape out where any kid could just take it. I didn’t even want to enter the room. My son told me he didn’t feel safe, and honestly, neither did I. This didn’t look like the best neighborhood to be in at night. I went to the front desk to ask to cancel my room. We had to wait behind this couple.. the woman looked like a ‘lady of the night’. I was polite in telling the front desk the situation. She told me to contact the third party website to cancel, since that’s who I booked it through. So I did. Third party proceeded to tell me that actually, the cancellation was up to the hotel property if they wanted to let me cancel or not. Well I’m sure you can guess what they decided.. I was refused a refund! You couldn’t pay me to stay here. I was out the money I paid in advance for this room. Bummer.. I was even polite and discreet to the front desk, didn’t even cause a stink about it or want to embarrass them. My son and I BOTH didn’t feel safe. She only said she could provide me with a different room at the same hotel. Umm, do you realize I said we didn’t feel safe?! Giving us a different room doesn’t change the fact that this hotel is unacceptable based on everything I just mentioned. I would have no way of knowing this until I arrived at the actual property, as we are from another state. The online pictures were deceiving. You couldn’t pay me to stay here. Honestly, do your research. Look at all the reviews, they all are correct. If you don’t mind druggies and a run down roach hotel, then stay here. Or pay a little more and drive 20 minutes further and be safe. Learn from my lesson. Please don’t stay here.
Jul 18, 2025 · Alicia DerenskiDisappointed and Misled — Not What We Expected My family and I booked this Inn thinking it would be something along the lines of Sleep Inn or Holiday Inn. However, upon arrival, it looked much more like a motel than a hotel. All the rooms were accessed from the outside, and there were no elevators. The overall appearance and cleanliness were disappointing (see attached photos). The toilet wobbled when used, and the general condition of the space felt neglected. Unfortunately, it was a last-minute booking, and we were too tired to find another place—so we stayed. I ended up changing all the bedding myself and used our own sheets because I didn’t feel comfortable sleeping on theirs. The bed squeaked with every movement, making it hard to get restful sleep. At check-in, a $50 security hold was placed on our card for potential damages. We were told it would be refunded after checkout. However, upon reviewing our account, I saw that the $50 had actually been charged, not just held. I attempted to call the number listed on Google (847-965-6400), and a woman answered saying the number went to a guest room—not the front desk—and then hung up on me. I then called Red Roof’s reservation line. The representative initially couldn’t find the property and even questioned whether it existed. After some back and forth, she finally found it—only to give me the same unhelpful number from Google. I explained the issue again and asked to be transferred directly. She hesitated but eventually connected me to the front desk. The receptionist told me the refund would be processed within two days but couldn’t provide a clear reason for why the charge had gone through. Her response was simply, “I guarantee you we’ll refund you,” and that she’d inform the manager. When I mentioned the issue with the listed number, she brushed it off saying, “That’s our number, so I’m not sure what to tell you.” I informed her that if the refund isn’t back in our account by Tuesday, in shā Allāh, I would be filing a dispute. This is the second poor experience we’ve had booking through Priceline, and we’re honestly disappointed. We paid nearly $100 expecting a clean, modest hotel—not a low-grade motel with questionable service and confusing communication. The only reason I gave 2 stars for service was because of AJ, the gentleman who checked us in. He was polite and helpful, even though check-in took some time due to him training another staff member. The location gets 4 stars—it felt safe and was very close to where we needed to be. But overall? We won’t make this mistake again. If it’s not a Sleep Inn or Holiday Inn, we’ll be skipping the “Inns” altogether. Lesson learned. P.S. Because we forgot our slippers and couldn’t make a run to Dollar Tree, we had to lay our clothes on the floor just to avoid stepping on it barefoot. One of the photos shows me using their towels to wipe the floor—and even then, it still didn’t feel clean. Another photo shows a towel that had multiple holes in it. It was just unacceptable.
