I am devastated this place is not open right now! I wanted to ask them for a long-term rental in a specific bungalow that I love. I have no idea how to get a hold of anyone there now it's been a while since I've been back there. You can't ask for a better place to stay. The location it's perfect, the grounds are beautiful, in my opinion, perfect and so is Managment. I stayed there many times during the process of looking for a place in Scottsdale , with my little dog Suki end it was almost like staying on a private residence, a beautiful private residence. There was no fence around the pool or anything yucky like that it was just absolutely gorgeous I love it so much. I stayed in different bungalows, which is great about this place they're all different and you can have full kitchen amenities, the beds are super comfortable, good water pressure in the showers, fruit trees, Mountain views, close to all the restaurants and shopping that's a matter fact one of the finest steak houses in town is right across the street. I'm telling you, if you like quiet ,remote , family feeling accommodations ,this is it. If you guys get a chance to read this please contact me I want to be updated on what's going on if you don't mind, thank you, Loyal residents, J'aime & Suki' Del Vecchio

SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows Introduce

For those of us who have lived in or frequently visited Scottsdale, the name SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows often evokes a sense of nostalgia for a truly unique and cherished piece of our local landscape. This resort, known for its distinctive charm and "old-fashioned" resort feel, stood apart from many of the larger, more conventional hotels in the area. While it's important to note that the SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows is currently closed for redevelopment, its legacy and the experiences it offered remain a fond memory for many Arizonans. This article aims to paint a picture of what made this place so special, from its idyllic location to its bungalow-style accommodations, providing insight into why it held such a dear spot in the hearts of its loyal guests and the local community.

The SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows wasn't just a place to stay; it was an experience. It offered a serene, almost private residence-like atmosphere, a stark contrast to the bustling, often grander, resorts found elsewhere in Scottsdale. Guests consistently praised its quiet and remote family feeling, making it a perfect sanctuary for those seeking peace and tranquility. Its bungalows, all uniquely designed, provided a sense of individuality and comfort that felt more like a home than a hotel room. This intimate and charming ambiance is precisely what made it such a beloved spot for long-term rentals and repeated visits, especially for those with pets, creating a truly unique footprint in Scottsdale's hospitality scene.

The SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows was ideally situated at 7101 E Lincoln Dr, Scottsdale, AZ 85253, USA. This location is nothing short of perfect for experiencing the best of Scottsdale and the surrounding Paradise Valley area. For locals, this meant effortless access to some of our most popular destinations without the typical resort-area congestion. Lincoln Drive is a key artery, providing smooth connections to major Scottsdale thoroughfares, making it easy to reach various parts of the city and beyond.

Its immediate surroundings were a significant draw. The resort was nestled in a quiet, remote area, yet incredibly close to all the action. Imagine having "one of the finest steak houses in town" right across the street, as one loyal guest fondly recalled. This proximity to high-quality dining and abundant shopping options was a huge convenience, allowing guests to step out for a meal or some retail therapy without needing to drive far. Old Town Scottsdale, with its vibrant arts scene, eclectic shops, and diverse restaurants, was just a few minutes away. Similarly, the upscale boutiques and galleries of Scottsdale Fashion Square were easily accessible.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the location was also excellent, offering mountain views and proximity to hiking opportunities. The surrounding grounds themselves were beautifully landscaped, adding to the feeling of a private oasis within reach of urban amenities. This combination of peaceful seclusion and convenient access to Scottsdale's highlights was a major factor in its popularity, making it a truly strategic spot for both short visits and extended stays, especially for those who valued tranquility with urban access.

The services offered at SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows focused on providing a comfortable, home-like experience, often with a personal touch that set it apart from larger, more impersonal establishments. While not a full-service luxury resort in the modern sense, its offerings catered to a relaxed and independent stay.

  • Pet-Friendly Accommodations: A major highlight and frequently praised service, the SmokeTree Resort was "very pet-friendly." Guests could stay with their "little dog Suki" and feel at ease, a significant benefit for many Arizonans who travel with their beloved companions.
  • Full Kitchen Amenities in Bungalows: Many of the bungalows offered "full kitchen amenities," allowing guests the flexibility to prepare their own meals. This feature was particularly appreciated for longer stays, offering a more residential feel and cost-saving opportunities compared to dining out for every meal.
  • Comfortable and Spacious Rooms/Bungalows: Guests consistently reported that the rooms and bungalows were "very comfortable and large," providing ample space. The beds were "super comfortable," ensuring a good night's sleep, and showers had "good water pressure."
  • Heated Swimming Pool: The resort featured a "lovely heated swimming pool," providing a refreshing and relaxing spot even during cooler months. The absence of a fence around the pool, described as "absolutely gorgeous," contributed to the open and natural feel of the grounds.
  • Outdoor Recreational Activities: The resort provided classic recreational options such as horseshoes and bocce ball, encouraging outdoor enjoyment and a sense of community.
  • Beautiful Grounds and Gardens: The resort was set on "beautiful grounds" with "perfect" landscaping, including "fruit trees" that added to its charm. There was even a mention of a "five-acre garden with a brook and a Koi pond" in some descriptions, fostering a tranquil environment.
  • Personalized Management and Staff: Reviews highlighted the "perfect" management and staff who made guests feel "almost like staying on a private residence." This level of personal care and attention was a defining characteristic of the resort.
  • Long-Term Rental Options: The resort was a popular choice for long-term rentals, particularly for individuals or families looking for a temporary home during transitions, offering a welcoming and stable environment.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: Free wired and wireless internet access was available, allowing guests to stay connected during their stay.
  • Other Amenities (from older data): Some previous descriptions mentioned a business center, laundry machines, and outdoor tennis courts, indicating a range of conveniences for guests.

The SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows stood out with several unique features and highlights that gave it a distinct character and garnered a loyal following, particularly among locals who appreciated its singular charm.

  • "Old-Fashioned Resort" Charm: This was perhaps its most defining characteristic. In an era of modern, often standardized hotels, SmokeTree offered a nostalgic, "old-fashioned" resort experience that was "disappearing from the American landscape." This unique ambiance appealed to those seeking a quieter, more personal stay.
  • Individual Bungalow Accommodations: The availability of different, unique bungalows was a significant highlight. This allowed for a more private and customized stay, making it feel less like a hotel and more like a "beautiful private residence." Each bungalow offering a distinct personality added to its allure.
  • Quiet and Remote, Yet Central Location: The ability to feel "quiet" and "remote" while being "close to all the restaurants and shopping" was a rare and highly valued combination. This perfect balance offered the best of both worlds: serenity and convenience.
  • Pet-Friendly Environment: Its genuine welcoming of pets, without the "yucky" restrictions or unpleasant amenities sometimes found elsewhere, made it a true haven for pet owners. The seamless integration of pets into the resort's beautiful grounds was a major advantage.
  • Comforts of Home: With "super comfortable beds," "good water pressure in the showers," and the option of full kitchen amenities, the bungalows provided all the essential comforts of home, ideal for extended stays.
  • Beautiful and Unfenced Grounds: The "beautiful grounds" with "fruit trees" and the natural, unfenced pool area created an inviting and aesthetically pleasing environment that felt integrated with the desert landscape.
  • Proximity to Fine Dining: The convenience of having "one of the finest steak houses in town" right across the street highlighted the immediate access to quality dining experiences.

As of the current information available, SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows is unfortunately not open for bookings as it is undergoing redevelopment. Therefore, there are no current promotions or special offers directly from the SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows itself. The property has been acquired by Walton Global and is slated for demolition to make way for a new 82-room boutique hotel, which will be a multi-year project. For locals who were hoping to revisit this beloved spot or explore its long-term rental options, it's advised to monitor news regarding the new development for future opportunities. Once the new hotel opens, it is likely to have its own set of promotions and special offers, but those will be distinct from the original SmokeTree experience.

While the SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows is currently closed for redevelopment, the contact information associated with its previous operation was:

Address: 7101 E Lincoln Dr, Scottsdale, AZ 85253, USA

Phone: (480) 948-7660

Mobile Phone: +1 480-948-7660

For updates on the redevelopment of this site, it would be more appropriate to look for news from Walton Global or local Paradise Valley development updates, rather than trying to contact the old resort number, which may no longer be active or managed for guest inquiries.

For Arizonans, the SmokeTree Resort and Bungalows was, and its memory remains, a truly exceptional place. Its suitability for locals stemmed from several key factors that set it apart. Firstly, its unique "old-fashioned" charm and bungalow-style accommodations offered a distinct experience that felt less like a generic hotel and more like a private, comfortable home away from home. This was particularly appealing for staycations, providing a genuine sense of escape right within our own city. Secondly, its incredible pet-friendly policy made it a go-to for many Arizonans who consider their furry friends part of the family, allowing them to enjoy a getaway without the stress of finding pet care. Thirdly, the balance of a quiet, remote atmosphere with immediate proximity to Scottsdale's best dining, shopping, and attractions was invaluable. You could enjoy peaceful mornings on the beautiful grounds, pick fruit from the trees, and then be at a world-class steakhouse or bustling shopping center in minutes. The full kitchen amenities in the bungalows were also a huge plus for longer stays or for families, offering flexibility and convenience. While it's sad to know this "wonderful, historic resort has closed" for redevelopment, as a loyal resident expressed, its spirit of quiet, family-feeling accommodation in a perfect location with super comfortable beds and great water pressure will be fondly remembered. For any Arizonan seeking that unique, unpretentious, and deeply comfortable retreat, SmokeTree was, for many years, the ideal choice, embodying a truly special slice of Scottsdale hospitality.

Wow. This is one of those old-fashioned resorts that are disappearing from the American landscape. The rooms are very comfortable and large, although a bit dated. The grounds are beautiful and there is a lovely heated swimming pool. They have horseshoes and bocce ball and it is close to Great stores and restaurants. I wish we had been able to stay for a week. I truly loved this place. Oh, the best part is that it is very pet-friendly! I am sad to report this wonderful, historic, resort has closed! Shame on Scottsdale.

This place is a hidden gem! Each room is a personal bungalow, the grounds are breathtaking and the service is top-notch! The landscaping is green and mature- I almost forgot I was in Phoenix! It has a family atmosphere that makes you instantly feel comfortable. There are complimentary bikes (and helmets!) a half-court basketball court, a little home-like gym packed full of any equipment you can imagine and a small pool that is nestled in a beautiful gated area that has grills and comfy lounge areas that make it easy to forget the world outside. And we stayed for less than $100/night! I was blown away that I didn’t even know this place existed and fell in love with it almost instantly. We already extended our stay and will definitely be returning again!

Smoketree Resort is an older resort owned and managed by a family. Each room opens on a large shaded green area, each with a patio and chairs. It’s a restful, quiet place to stay, and it’s our local favorite. There are refrigerators and coffee makers in the rooms, and there is a upscale grocery store nearby. Prices are significantly lower than other Scottsdale/Paradise Valley resorts or motels. It doesn’t look impressive from the road since there is a closed restaurant in the front, but once you drive around to the rooms, you find a sweet and restful retreat.

This is a great place to stay. The rooms are so cute and clean. They have everything you need. It is very quiet and so pretty. You don't even feel like you are staying in town it feels like you are in the country. Each room has is own patio and the grounds are beautiful. Highly recommended.
