Wow! What a super positive experience. The 4 of us decided to do a short road trip from Minneapolis and we nailed it!! The hotel is clean, clean and clean and in great shape!! The staff were so welcoming and the bar staff was so welcoming and attentive. They are a hop, skip and a jump from the Twin Cities so do yourself a favor and make the hop, skip and a jump. While we were there, it poured rain and none of us cared as the bar and dinner was so very good and the rooms were awesome. If you have a bucket list, add them to it as you will not be anything other than impressed!

Jul 19, 2025 · Michael ShieldsLovely hotel. Patio bar and great food. Charming rooms. Walkable area. Was there for a wedding. Only downside was the bed which was miserable to sleep on for two nights. There for a wedding. The others in my party said their beds were comfy. I definitely did NOT win the bed lottery. Alerted front desk after first night and asked if there was anything they could do. But second night was no better. Otherwise, great experience.
Jun 29, 2025 · L TOne star only because we had booked a specific room number (310) at the St James Hotel months in advance last year only for them to give the room away and not tell us beforehand. We took off work, planned the weekend, boarded our pets, and drove to stay in a haunted room. When we got to the hotel, we got a room key and dropped everything off and excitedly explored Red Wing. While we were out, we thought the room seemed off. When we got back, we looked at the room number again and found it was the WRONG room. When we went to complain at the front desk, we were told that yes, they can see from the notes that we originally booked room 310, but one of the managers rented the room to someone else. We told them that we specifically asked for 310 and wouldn't have taken this trip if we no longer had the room. They did not call or email to tell us that they gave the room to someone else. We were told that we HAD TO stay at least one night and then we could leave in the morning and we won't be charged for canceling the rest of our stay. We were still charged for the room. I was so mad, but because my husband wanted to stay in room 310, I had to wait to file this complaint until after we stayed in 310. So, this year, I called and booked 310 and told that woman that they cannot give our room away this time and she promised to put a block on it. I told her what happened last time. She said that it won't happen again. We were able to stay in 310 this time, but no apologies were made from the last stay. Not even a comped meal or at least a free drink. When we checked in this year, and I told the clerk what happened last year, she said that rooms are not guaranteed. So, if you want to book a specific room, good luck. Imho, they don't seem to care if you get the room you booked or not. We will never stay there again.
Jun 14, 2025 · Loving SummerMy husband and I got married in Red Wing about a week ago, and we stayed in The Foundry Suite at the St. James. Our experience was amazing. Not only were the hotel and suite stunning, but the staff were so so kind to us. When leaving for our rehearsal dinner, the front desk staff was hyping me up and complimenting my outfit. I thought that was so sweet. My bridesmaids and I got ready at the River Blu Salon the morning of our wedding. We had a great experience as well and could even order food from the Scarlet Kitchen to eat while getting ready. The St. James had every detail in a wedding weekend hotel that we could have asked for!
May 04, 2025 · Courtney McNiffThe St. James Hotel is unlike any other! I own Jeff Dose Photography and love shooting at the St. James Hotel. The historic charm of the hotel suits its location nestled along the Mississippi perfectly. The hotel is gorgeous with its dark woodwork, distinct individual rooms, and stunning artwork. Nearby you have Levee Park, the Mississippi River, and the lovely Main Street just outside the front door. The staff is so courteous, the food is amazing, and guests love that weddings here are a getaway for themselves as well! The St. James Hotel is an awesome place for a wedding and I can't wait to be photographing again there soon!
